Yeah, Yoshi's Story was utter trash and after it Nintendo seriously never released a good game ever again.
>>
This game is good
>>
>never released a good game ever again

I wouldn't go that far, but it was the beginning of Nu-Nintendo. Too many of their games turned into kiddie garbage starting with Yoshi's Story.

My SNES collection used to be my largest collection of games for a single platform. The SNES also used to be my favorite console. My NES collection surpassed my SNES collection a few years ago and has never looked back. NES just has so many great games that get straight to the point due to the arcade-style focus of the console. The games don't beat around the bush or waste my time. I appreciate that more as I've gotten older. SNES is still a great system, but I'd choose the NES over it any day.

So, in the 90's, there were two types of kids:

The kids with a N64, who had stable, nuclear families, voted George Bush, had favor with God, and lived in decent homes in good neighborhoods because their dads who loved them and validated them often worked hard and their mother who nurtured them and took care of them. They grew up, got college degrees, have either become business professionals and/or started families of their own. They don't post on /v/ often.

Then, there's the PS1 kids. Their parents were either divorced, black, or likely both. Their dad wasn't in the picture, or spent all day at his construction or factory job, and when he got home (if he did at all), he'd grab a beer, and plop down on the couch to watch trash TV. They lived paycheck-to-paycheck, they never were truly loved or validated by their caregivers, and probably had self-esteem issues and depression by age 14. They masturbated to 320x240 jpgs of tits on dial up internet and were probably really smart, but struggled in High School, both academically and socially. They are atheist, but because they're so fickle and non-committal, they profess agnosticism. They frequent both 4chan and reddit (despite hating the other when on the opposite site) and that's why N64 gets so much hate.

Because the people that would defend the N64 are off living life.

/v/ also hates the Saturn, Gamecube, Xbox hueg, Xbox 360, Dreamcast, Wii, Wii U, and Xbone. Meanwhile the Sony consoles except the PS3 are almost never hated on here, despite the PS4 being pretty much just as shit as the PS3 was and the PS2 being just as much of a casual shovelware machine as the Wii was. As an idort, it isn't hard to tell that there is a massive Sony fanbase on /v/ (or probably just a small team of really autistic shitposters or paid shills. I would actually say those two are probably more likely).

It had maybe 7 single player games that are worth playing today, and the early 3D graphics were abominable. The stereotype of the well-adjusted N64 kid with lots of friends vs. the lonely and jaded PS1 kid is probably true, and the latter grew up into the people posting on /v/ right now. The PS1 had stronger single player game support.

>>
>>389017517
>>389017517
My family was poor as fuck living in inner city Detroit in the 90s and I had both an N64 and a PS1 because you can recycle cans for 10 cents a piece in Michigan and I spent my afternoons after school riding my bike around and can hunting.

My life is also a pretty stable mix of the two of these, minus the worst aspects of both. Dad and Mom worked a lot, but it just meant I spent a lot of time with my rich super liberal aunt and uncle as a kid, who showered me with gifts and praise and gave me the love that was lacking in my childhood home until my parents got their shit together enough to both make enough money to support us and have actual time to parent. That was more in the SNES/Genesis era, though. I've purchased every game system I've owned since, though that stops being meaningful around the time I became an adult.

But I'm not white or black, I'm asian,
take your stupid racebait back to /pol/
>>
>>389019535
Statistically, >>389019535 is true. Nobody else perceived racism. A statistic like "79% of black mothers are unmarried" is truth, not racism.

Likewise, PS1 owners were more often likely to grow up in broken homes is fact, not biased.

I would guarantee you voted and/or supported Hillary Clinton. Please calm down and play some video games.

>>389015310

I never got too far in this game. What's so bad about it? Is it just too basic and barebones? Too slow paced? It looks faster paced that Yoshi's Island, and that's a good thing to me.
>>
>>389020728
It's just very short. But it was designed to be played through multiple times, it just doesn't communicate that well. It also can be a little awkward to control at times.

It's also not tremendously fun, but it's alright.

Emulate it. You can make it through one playthrough in less than an hour.
>>
>>389016614

Nah, I was just too stubborn to adapt to 3D.
>>
>>389016962
>All the adults in my family would watch us play Yoshi's Island and were amazed by the graphics. They liked DKC2 more though.

Hahaha, I love how the Brits cucked Miyamoto.
>>
>>389021203
Miyamoto cucked himself by not making a proper sequel to Super Mario World, because it would have decimated the DKC games in sales.
>>
>>389016934
No friends. I still to this day never owned a PS2 because Sony thought 2 controllers was acceptable, well that and the PS2 was were good JRPG series went to die.

On topic I liked Yoshi Story as a kid, but it's a shadow of what Yoshi's Island is.
>>
>>389016614
I was 14 and despite at the time it feeling like it looked like ass (I know better now) I still really loved the game. But yeah I'm a sucker for cutesy things so yeah.
>>
I like Story. Too bad it was made in that period where you could present a rental meant to be beaten in an hour as a full game. Same problem with Star Fox and Smash Bros.

Nintendo pretty much gave up after this game?

Note how this was basically the last game that the old school "core team" of Nintendo employees were fully devoted to like Miyamoto and Kondo? Every Nintendo game after this one, the old school team basically sat back and took supervisory roles while letting a new generation actually make the game.

Not coincidentally, this was also the last game where Nintendo tried to out-AAA the game industry in terms of ALL aspects of presentation.

It has a factually weaker library than the PS1 and the Dualshock is better than the N64 controller. I didn't hate the N64, but I do hate the fans that endlessly defend it despite its glaring flaws.

A lot of Nintendo fans are morons though who get really butthurt if you try to have a realistic opinion on any of their games. That fucking Boss Keys video on OoT were the guy states and shows that most of OoT's dungeons are linear is fucking full of comments from kids going "umm, so how exactly is linear bad dude?".

I'm just tired of hearing the same, single defense for the N64, which is "it had less games, but it had better games, quantity over quality" when this is the most subjective thing a person can state. You might as well just be saying "It's better because I like it more".
