the worst part is that most of them aren't even good, and they get a fuckton of negative reviews by the people who realize that they've made a horrible mistake but have played more than 2 hours and so cannot refund the game, and the other half are the whiteknights who defend it because it's "early access" and therefore immune to criticism

When was the last time an early access game on steam actually got out of early access?

I bounce back and forth between games I own since they tend to be long RPGs or stuff you can get heavily invested in, so it's nice to be able to drift from one to the other when I feel like playing something else.
It's bullshit that I need to dedicate 90% of the drive space to them when I have the damn discs, though.

But that's just not true, Anon. For the small price of € 29,99, you can unlock 5 brand new characters, and for € 29,99 more, you can have their alternate costumes as well! I think that's pretty good considering most games don't allow unlockables anymore.
>>
>>389016000
This disappoints me. I get that a lot of developers want people to just be able to jump in and play any character right away, but unlocking characters is fun.

Mario Golf 64 handled this in a good way. In Single player you only started with 4 characters and had to unlock most of them, but if you went to one of the multiplayer modes, almost all of the characters were available.

So can you actually give me some arguments about why having optional cosmetic lootboxes is bad? Don't get me wrong, I'm against them too, but honestly I'm not sure why I'm against them. People keep telling me that it's bad and I don't like seeing them in games, but since it's just cosmetics I also don't see why anyone but people who are completely anal about cosmetics would care.

More than anything, we're fucking tired of being pitched a bunch of ideas that haven't been polished or don't exist yet, while AAA companies push out unfinished games because they already planned the next 3 rehashes whose development cycles have all been scheduled already.

And then the fact that it's all either AAA and indies. All middle-sized studios got bought up and closed/assimilated.
>>

>>
>>389017718
I honestly have no problem with lootboxes myself. I have problem with the unlocking system itself. Because the game is built around the lootboxes. Lootboxes are meant to help you get what you want faster. Which means that unlocking the stuff ingame and without money will be a much higher grind.
>>

No, it's not. You can have up to 45 in Long Blade at level 1 with a Redrugard, 40 with Imperial and Dark Elf. That almost assures that every hit you make on enemies of your level and even many above that, will always connect. The only people having issues with Morrowind are people that don't know how to read. Or those that bite off more than they can chew and get mad at the game giving them no chance of victory unless they come Batman prepared with scrolls and magical items aplenty, but the same people are usually too stupid to understand practical applications of such things.

It's pathetic cashcow beating practice, and mostly unethical too since it's actually marketed towards unhealthy people and children, which is whatever in reality. It's just one of the many features that have made their way into gaming in the last 10 years or so that have borne a toxic and greedy means to a highly profitable end.

DLC is wholly unnecessary as a product and the common practice of D1DLC is just bad politics, period, it's incredibly rude to push that shit to your customers. Pre-order bonus is much the same, it's a means to generate legitimate numbers for sales and marketing information to show off to board members.

Generic regurgitation of tried and true concepts is another rut that the developer community is stuck in. This is actually a challenging barrier here, as most things have been tried to some extent, the direction of open world expansion is trying to drive in new methods of interaction as well as generally broadening the span of the content, with that said it's never been done well. This is why we get CoD, Halo, Battlefield, OW, and WoW expansions instead of new IPs, because they're incredibly complex and take years to produce. An example is The Division which while it may not have been publically stated I have no doubt Ubi was putting pressure on them for an early release instead of allowing the developers to finish the game. Unfortunately Ubi got their money.

It should be. Most of the business practices we see in video games would be illegal in the real world. It will not stop until international laws are pushed against those practices.

>>
>>389020518
Yes, those are the rules of the roleplaying game. Some races are better suited to becoming melee fighters than others. Nothing prevents you from doing well as anything with any weapon, but that actually means you have to pick your starting skills correctly. Stats aren't that relevant in fact, until later.

Part of it is the more expensive infrastructure, but more importantly it's all run by an oligopoly of the three most useless, greedy corporations around since foreigners aren't allowed to compete.

>>389017718

It's manipulative and preys on the weak willed, stupid, and gambling addicted. If that's not bad enough, they make the overall experience worse because incentive needs to be given to pay real money for it. So a game with minimal amounts of grinding for skins and extra content will have the grind jacked up to encourage people to buy the skins directly, or worse, buy randomized boxes for extra chances. If you ever play a game and think "I'd rather pay money to skip this part instead of actually playing it" then you're playing a game with shitty, exploitative mechanics.

This is a list of PS2 games that allow for 4 and sometimes more players to play together.

Considering the hassle of all those cords and having to buy a special attachment to make up for the 2 controllers limit

Consider this list does not has a FIFA or Madden for each year (madden is not even there)

And is 111 games.

Consider from the PS3, the controllers limit was increased, something like 8. Consider that PS4 and XBONE are "the most powerful consoles ever".

Consider these words.

They look too good.

Really it breaks immersion in most cases as majority of games have really shitty stories that can't draw you in

In the older generations you could lose yourself in a game because you were filling in the pieces in your mind seeing things that were not actually there as such even an incompetent story had you filling in any plot holes and getting attached tot he characters
In the current generation it's "who gives a fuck?" most of the time because there is less for you to fill in thus less room for your imagination to do its magic
