I play Tekken and Melee. Melee is a way more technical game at high levels of play but it isn't a fighting game. Smash should just be its own genre. It plays nothing like an actual fighting game and enough clones are popping up it may as well just be its own thing at this point.

This. Just because it's not Street Fighter doesn't mean it's not within the genre. Whether or not you want to edge Platform Fighters closer to the Arena Fighters side or Traditional Fighters side is up for debate, but to go into autistic fits over slipping it under the "Fighting Game" hierarchy is just ridiculous.
