I second 1080p at 144fps unless you have a really huge monitor in which case I would go for 1440p at 60fps. I only play in 4k if I'm in my living room and on the 60 inch television.

Anything higher than 30fps is fine unless it's a first person game. The problem we face more often now is unstable framerates and frame times. I just want smooth video.

Alternatively, playing at 3k is like 80% of 4k and doable on a 1080ti for any horribly optimized games without dynamic resolutions and it still looks fucking miles better than 1440p (which is about 45% the pixels of 4k)

I'm upgrading my PC in April, and I'll probably be grabbing a new monitor around the same time. Part of me wants to go 1440p 144hz, but another part of me says "that's stupid, you should wait for affordable 4k/HDR monitors"

I was floating around 80fps with the 1080ti at UHD maxes with res scale to 100. The 1080 at UW1440 was getting 80-100 with res scale at 85.

He never said maxed but you always have to take what people say on this site with a grain of salt. I have a 1070 and a 1080Ti and there are tons of games the 1070 wasn't able to max at 1440p / 60.
