What can kill Steam dead?

How and when will Steam end?
>>
people have been whining about steam for over a decade now with no result

get the fuck over it already
>>
>>388976134
I like Steam, but I hate Valve. And if there was a better platform than Steam and I could take my games with me, I'd do that. But sadly that will never happen.
>>
The only way to kill Steam is by having a better client, and some kinda service to show proof of purchase to get alot of your Steam games on the new competitor. People won't switch off Steam if they own 100+ games on it.

Also, fuck the category/sorting system in Steam. So tedious to go through and move shit around or even to just delete a category.

>>388976134
The only thing that can kill it at this point is a full on market crash of video games.
>>
i dont want steam to die i want it to made great again
>>
At this point the only thing that could kill it is Valve going full retard, and even then it would be difficult. People already have so much games in Steam that switching away from it would be a tough proposition for the majority, it requires some extraordinarily pressing reason.

I know this is just a fantasy, but imagine fans being so outraged over HL3 that they kill their steam business, forcing them to make a game to restore it.

All that money and he's still a fat fuck. Obviously not as smart as he leads people to believe.

Steam is basically PC gaming.

Gabe dies and he takes the company with him. This will not be another apple. I am from the future, where steam is no more.

>European Union blocking/fining them for privacy issues
>Big publisher forcing his own client via physical copies of several big franchises (kinda what Steam did 7 years ago with Bethesda, the Civilization and Total War games)
>Hackers stealing everybody's credentials and actually publishing it instead of just trying to sell the accounts
>The fat man dying and leaving his private company to the mercy of the retards who are already steering it into a minefield

Last option is the most viable in my opinion.

Gabe actually encrypts all the user files and throws away the key just before he dies. You will know, there will be a slight change in the ToS one day when it forcibly updates. You will press accept as usual, and just before the client crashes you will see that your steam library is empty, and you have agreed on no refunds. When he died he was found clutching a copy of Catcher in the Rye, signed by Bill Gates.

So it ends up being like a game console.

GOG has that GOG Connect thing, but they need to get a hell of a lot more games on the service to make it work.
>>
>>388976134
Only alternative can kill steam. Game library is too big.to any alternative exist.
>>
>>388976372
>>388976563
Ultimately, this
The only thing that will stop Steam is if a better client is made, and offers a way for people to take most of their library with them
As much as I hate modern Valve, I've got 600+ games on my steam account, and I don't exactly want to ditch them

Also for >>388976563 try Steam Depressurizer
https://github.com/Depressurizer/Depressurizer

>>388983463
GOG Connect was dead about a week after it was announced, there's been basically no new games on the fucking thing since
If they kept supporting it and getting more devs on board, I'd be a hell of a lot more tempted to jump ship
>>
>>388976134
Steam will stay around for a few decades. It most likely won't actually die, but instead just be renamed to something else. As long as it happens more than 20 years from now I don't give a shit, after that point I'll either be dead, or won't give a fuck about my game library on Steam anyways.
