BloodGDX is a pretty good port. If you still want to play it in DOSbox and bought it on Steam or GOG, replace the woefully outdated version of DOSbox included with the game with the latest SVN build to improve performance and reduce bugs dramatically.
http://www.emucr.com/search/label/DOSBox
>>
>>388976256
Nah, it's perfectly fine the way it is.
Stuck in limbo, unsoiled by a remake, hard to get to run on modern systems.
I think its a very dignified fate.
Imagine the gearbox reboot.

>HEY SHITLORDS CALEBS ABOUT TO CHECK YOUR PRIVILEGE
>>
>>388976256
One of the things that made this game so appealing were the over-the-top violence of the sprite graphics.

A remake would just ruin it. They should just make a sequel-reboot of it instead, or a "seaboot".

finished it for the 1st time myself in 2015, with full mouselook. The BUILD engine's 3D enough to warrant using it.

Blood has full controller support and with the deadzone lowered a bit though external software, works just fine with a 360 controller.
>>
>>388978572
Unlike Doom this game was built with vertical aiming in mind. You can still play with horizontal camera movement only but you will be limited when it comes to aiming your dynamite and other similar things. Get bmouse if you're playing on dosbox.

I've done everything from installing bmouse to trying to play without mouselook altogether but no matter what I do it plays like dogshit.

Mouse always has delay and movement with mouselook (even with bmouse) is extremely imprecise and sluggish.

There is your problem, you should've bought an i7 if you were really serious about running dosbox games

But seriously, I have the exact same issue, bmouse doesn't seem to change anything, there always seems to be input latency. The java version has it aswell, I'm afraid it's "intended", and we raw input fags have to go fuck ourselves and play the Eduke32 port

I only buy games that directly support the people who made them. I sent 60 dollars to carmack and romero each for all of the entertainment they've provided me. Is there a way to contact main developers of blood and drop them a few bucks?
>>
>>388977227
Is this map pack worth a try? Are the levels consistent in their quality?

This is great, I didn't know there were Blood mods.

Yes, Google Jason Hall, he's the main guy behind Blood, and he still has the source code, he campaigned for its possible release a few years back but the IP holders wouldn't let him

Literally the worst thing that can happen to this game.

I'm currently playing thru it, finished 3 episodes so far, yes, there's some minor glitches, I've encountered the "hall of mirrors" glitch in two maps (basically errors in the 'room over room' rendering code) and there's some minor texture flickering (z-fighting) here and there, but otherwise, it's good. Cutscenes have no sound and the CD audio is not available yet. All of this should be fixed by the end of this year I reckon.

What is this, is it good?

>An interview with Hyung in Priest: Volume 3 states that the comic was inspired by the computer game Blood by Monolith Productions, which featured a similar horror-Western aesthetic and undead protagonist

I might check this out.

Gayest portrayal of Caleb I've ever seen.

I assume you're talking about Bloodgdx

>the "hall of mirrors" glitch
Are you playing on the latest update? I know this was an issue a while back put it got patched
>>
>>388989124
Blood has always been extremely popular on /v/, among the people who know of it.
>>
>>388989189
Saw a post on /vr/ complaining about "more and more babbies getting into Blood because of BloodGDX". Made me chuckle.
>>
>>388989541
I'm not mad because more people are enjoying the game, I'm mad because the more popular it is the more endless contrarians there will be shitting on it.

>more and more babbies getting into Blood because of BloodGDX

Good, people need to experience it.
>>
>>388989414
Yes, BloodGDX latest (0.774) version. The glitches are in the secret level of the first episode when you fall from the waterfall and in E2M7, in that big 2 floor room.
>>
>>388989414
>>388989720
The hall of mirrors or "room over room" graphics issues have been significantly reduced from earlier versions. They're not all gone, but a shitload have been fixed. I've been testing every version since it first came out.
>>
>>388989878
Where's your accuracy now faggot
>>
>>388989878
Yeah I understand that it's work in progress and will be fixed in the coming months, just sharing my experience is all.
>>
>>388989124
Bloodfags have been a thing on /v/ for a long time. It's actually a bad thing because they've become insufferable over the years, making a great game look worse by acting like huge faggots.

Been playing Blood lately for the first time in like, I dunno, 16 years or so.

Now I remember why me and my cousin couldn't get further than a couple of levels without switching to god mode. The enemies are all hit scan, and deal tons of damage with pretty good reaction times. It's possible to get gunned down at full health in seconds. You need to be either really good at shooters or just, you know, save scum and/or memorize the levels. Oh the good old Nintendo Hard difficulty. Flip a switch, the door behind you opens with a couple of cultists unloading their shotguns into you. You either lose 50% of your health, or reload and try again, losing 5-15% instead.

some are pretty inventive but not all that useful
>shit level design
it's hit and miss around half are as good as the other build games and the rides again expansion has some amazing levels
>shit enemies
pretty much because its 90% undodgable hitscan and there is no armour
>shit gameplay
I wouldnt really say that as its basically identical to duke minus the jump height (its based on duke code) but there are obvious flaws like the keys all looking the same and being very hard to spot
also I believe it was the first game to ever included a soundtrack of licensed music

It wasn't bad by 90's budget game standards. There were worse ways to blow 20 bux.

Also, TekWar actually used the BUILD engine before douk made it famous.

tekwar is a pile of shit but I love it anyway
if all the features werent cut it seriously would have been deus ex 1995 edition, some maps have a really nice gritty cyberpunk atmosphere
and progression is fairly non linear, unfortunately if you play it for the first time there is no indication of where to go or whatever to do at all
>>

I was going to make fun of the irony of using a Samurai Jack image for a post like that but then I remembered that Jack actually did end recently. Crazy.
>>
>>388990486
I won't disagree that the levels were awfully designed, especially with stuff like key placements and knowing where the fuck to go. But I will say that many of the levels have a kind of unique charm to them
>that level set during a hurricane with a trailer park and a bowling alley that you could actually bowl in

Also the soundtrack is top tier as you said

I've heard Rides again was supposed to be much better than the original. How long is the game? I remember dropping the first game after finishing the first of the two episodes having somewhat mixed opinions of it
>>

>tekwar is a pile of shit but I love it anyway
Agree with this 100%. The game is garbage but weirdly charming. The only really bad part is the cyber maze with its shitty puzzles and tunnels.
>if all the features werent cut it seriously would have been deus ex 1995 edition, some maps have a really nice gritty cyberpunk atmosphere
Capstone was grossly incompetent as a developer. All their attempts at TECHNOLOGY were as good as they were going to get in this game. They did figure out how to work 3D CAD software for Chronomaster though, I'll give them that.
>>
>>388992149
haven't played the expansions in a couple of years but I'd say rides again is comparable in length to the main game
the other expansion was a little shorter iirc and not as interesting but it still had its moments the ending is especially cool

I was thinking of building a windows 95 or 486 primarily for dos games. What kind of pic would be top of the line around this games release.
>>
>>388993163
Don't go for Win 95, what you're looking for is the late Win 9x hardware. Basically whatever you can find that still has the driver support for Win 9x. Win 9x includes true native DOS among other things. I'd go with Windows 98 personally, but you can try Windows Me as well.
>>
>>388993486
Thanks. How well does 98 work on an old dell with a pentium 4?
>>
>>388993906
Should work just fine. Pentium 4 was considered a top CPU back in the day. I started with Win 98 + Pentium 3 myself, it was more than enough for 90's games.
>>
>>388994326
thanks.
