Anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, KoF and MK have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!

If you want something a little more "button-masher-friendly," tekken might be your cup of tea.... Key word, might.

It looks so different from other fighters. I've watched a little bit of tournament play and it didn't look as if there was any intention of hitting high/low, throwing or mix ups of any kind. I'm guessing it has it's own iteration of rock paper scissors.

I demoted a guy and ranked up only to get demoted again and gave the same guy 2 more ranks and lost like 10 times, I really dropped the ball after 3 wins. I noticed i repeated the wrong moves a lot so it's entirely my fault but these things tend to be automatic in the heat of the moment, i need to take it slower.

These. Been playing and defending this series since Tekken 2 but T7 I just couldn't defend. It's great if you're life is evo, online, all of that shit, but as a game, as a new entry into a long standing series it's the worst yet due to the fucking void that is content. Even customization sucks and all they had to do was combine all the items since Tekken 5 into one game. They couldn't even get that right.

I've barely touched it since release, won't be getting any DLC, and just feel so fucking sad that another series I enjoyed the fuck out of has gone the same route as so many others.

the game is almost entirely made up of forcing mixups on your opponent. instead of like in traditional 2d fighters where the default is block low and react to overheads, in tekken you block high and react to lows because mids hit crouching. the general gameplan is to force your opponent to guess into crouching or standing so you can hit them with a mid launcher when they do crouch. throws are very easy to break for experienced players so you dont see them as often as you do in other fighting games but they still exist, especially if the character has setups for them like Jack-7 or if it's King, whose whole low game is pretty much replaced by command throws since his lows are shitty and he needs some other way to force people to crouch (crouching ducks throws except for special crouch throws that only specific characters have)

hard to get into, not really. hard to get good? extremely. you have to know a ton of character specific knowledge to play against people who know all their character's shit, since every character has over 100 moves besides the new ones and a lot of them appear abusable until you know that you can crouch during this part of the string or that you can crush this move etc

forcing launchers on your opponent so you can do a combo isn't the same thing as being about combos. everybody does the same BnB unless they're doing wallcarry or oki combos, the game really isnt about combos at all. it's about putting yourself in a position to do them. compared to marvel combos where everyone does their own speshul snowflake 3,000 hit juggles with their specific unique team and half the game is coming up with cool combos for your team
