When was a single MMO ever good?
I liked Runescape's betrayals, scamming and general shenanigans, but everything else has been putrid shit grinding theme parks.

It took me years to realise what a shitty grindfest L2 was

They are forgetting that the game has to be fun to play too. Also there's not a lot of ways to personalize your character beyond initial creation since everything is min/maxed to death.
Doesn't help that apparently group play is a thing of the past and everyone wants to be able to do everything for some ungodly reason.

A genre based on open ended exploration and community driven goals has been reduced to single player PvE and raids. It would be like making a fighting game that removes the option to play with other human players and then tries to make up for it by turning the game into a side scrolling platformer.

I personally liked Runescape and World of Warcraft. Sometimes I yearn for a new MMO that will make me addicted to it like Runescape once did, but now. I have a job and cutting down trees for 3 hours a day isn't something fun.

It's also more immensely fun when you have IRL friends and they know just as much as you do with the game. With youtube videos and guides, there is no sense of adventure and discovering something yourself. If you don't use these guides/videos you are behind the curve and essentially LARPing. Everything is a min/max stat and numbers. These games were great back then, cause they were newer, nobody had a good guide back then, not everybody knew how certain features worked, and it was just fun to do what you wanted, even though you didn't understand it fully and you didn't care. You just wanted to go to school, talk about getting to 60 fishing and selling lobbies and buying a full set of rune armor and having a good time with your buddies playing said game.

MMO's had it's time,But not anymore, just let it die.
