Unless you're a history revisionist, Nintendo's Wii patents date 2005-06, when the system came out. One final note iLife was given the patent and filed the lawsuit in the same year the Wii ceased production, in 2013.

But... but... fall detection devices (tilt and man down switches) have been around for decades. Admittedly the ones from the 50's and 60's used mercury switches rather than anything digital. But I'm pretty certain Motorola began introducing non-mercury (digital) detection devices in the late 1980's.
