>>

I love this hidden gem game
>>
>>388948039
toss all of those glass bottles all over the floor. enemies will die before they can even reach you.
you can sell the tape, round pills, pipe. eggs and weapon parts.
and i don't think that the chain has a use other than to fix the village well. if you've already done that then you can throw that away (you cant sell it)
If you haven't already you should make a single-shot shotgun with that long barrel. it doesn't break after shooting like the single pistol. It just has to be reloaded after each shot.
>>
What's this about?
>>
I bought the game because the spooks are real and I wanted to support the devs, but I haven't made it passed the second night because I suck at keyboard + mouse and the first night was tense as fuck (even though NOTHING happened). Sick game though and I want to build up the courage to play more.

Bump for some spoopy stories.

>>388950486
You want to keep those. Rags are used to make bandages, armor, torches and molotovs. you'll need plenty of nails and wood for hideout 2 where you'll have loads of break-ins every night. you probably only want one stack of matches since you don't use them for much besides lighting trails of gas and making fire-based weapons (which only takes one match each time).
>>388950338
There is an option to use a controller in the menu
>>388951038
Yeah that's the one. headphones are good since you'll be listening carefully for footsteps, furniture scraping and doors opening.

old woods hideout is kind of irrelevant in my opinion, no reason to stay there more than 2 days.

All you really need to be in Old Woods for is completing musician quest line and visiting the doctor, both don't take much time.

Banshees themselves need one bullet, as you can't kill them. You just gotta bait their children to the bear traps and kill them in melee fast.
>>

Feels good. I'm glad they actually worked hard on the game. I haven't played in about a year though so I bet a lot of things have changed.

>>
>>388952014
well you can sell all of your nails too i guess. you can get a perk later that allows you to eat wood to heal yourself so that and the fact that you need wood to fix some weapons might just make the planks might worth holding on to, but maybe just two stacks.
rocks aren't good for much besides getting some sharpness upgrades on the shovel. they don't sell for anything but you can throw them at poison mushrooms to clear them.
if you have any edible items that aren't cookable or healing pills then you can sell them too.
>>
I love the game, but I really can't make myself play too much of it in one sitting. Surviving a night is like taking a big dump. You just feel so relaxed suddenly.

Two chapters. No time limit, stay as long as you want. Difficulty only really changes depending on where you are.
>>
>>388952526
Two chapters with four sections altogether; first three are in the first chapter, but the last is the largest by far. Also, you can stay in a hideout indefinitely provided you maintain your defences and ration resources accordingly. IMO, easiest to defend is the second hideout, because you get a relatively intact house with multiple rooms.
>>
>>388952526

no time limit, but my first completion was in 16 days for reference. Resources don't respawn, minus what the trader brings each day, so there's kind of a soft cap on being in an area when you have no more resources to collect

>>
>>388953346
yeah the "indiegogo content" option is available to everyone. All it adds as far as i know is a dream where you get to visit the devs apartment and look around.
what I was referring to is a box on the side of the first hideout that is locked with a code. apparently it contains some goodies for backers inside. its in the game regardless of whether "indiegogo content" is ticked or not.
>>
>>388953862
Huh. At first I thought you have to find the code somewhere in-game.

Third eye and wood eating perk are the ones that find useful but not really worth the downsides it gives along the way for me.

>>
>>388953943
apparently it used to be locked with a key that was found on a body in the underground entrance but that was changed in a patch early on in the games development.

that's a false statement and you've proven it so with you not backing up your claim

this game has:

dogs
huge dogs
mooses
passive savages
hostile savages
rock throwers
savages wielding sticks
mushroom men
pigs
small chompers
large chompers
banshees
centipedes
human spiders
swampers
burning villagers
villagers
and bugs.

so if even if you take out the enemies that are just slighty different variants (ex. counting dogs and one and chompers as one despite being different enemies)

the game still has

dogs
moose
savages
villagers
mushroom men
pigs
chompers
banshees
centipedes
swampers
and bugs.

meanwhile recent games to come out such as breath of the wild (which i also like) has about 5 or 6 different enemy types in a bunch of different colors

so go fuck yourself

Nope. It's actually pretty ingenious in its delivery. See, you got that field of view thing like in top-down shooters, and you see all the terrain and walls in stuff while you look away, but you don't see objects and creatures. You can actually scare the fuck out of yourself if you're not going in some new place carefully. Otherwise, they don't have screamers besides screaming monsters. It's mostly building up the atmosphere through visual and sound design.

The crafting really isn't that big of a deal. Its about on the same level as the combining in Monster hunter.
The game is way more of an RPG than a crafting game anyway and really I wish people would stop lumping it in with games like Rust or The Forest since its really nothing like them

Its a fucking travesty when games like Dragon's Dogma or Dead Rising have more involved crafting systems but still don't get hit with that fucking tag.

>>
>>388954397
You're bloating this list up more than you really should. Dogs and huge dogs are the exact same enemy type, one just has more health and doesn't stagger as easily when hit. Passive savages and rock throwers are the exact same, but the passive ones don't fight, they only run away and they're only in the first area. hostile savages and savages with sticks are the exact same enemy. IDK about chomper size differences but I assume they're basically just like the differences between the dogs. Pigs are basically slower dogs with more health.

>I personally don't find most beneficial, the downsides are greater than the positive quirks it gives.
Objectively wrong.

Moth is excellent during night invasion since you will be standing right next to a lamp. Better line of sight is a pretty good buff. Shadows are hardly an issue, standing next to a lamp or carrying a lantern is enough to make them moot.

Being able to see everything around and sprint indefinitely are both life savers, certainly worth taking a bit more damage from poison.

Tier 3 has the worst downsides and weakest benefits if you ask me, but it's still pretty good. Being able to scare enemies away comes in handy and being immune to traps can easily save your life (if you step into a bear trap while being chased by an enemy you will most likely die). Slower stamina regeneration when it reaches zero is not a big deal, just stop sprinting right before it reaches 0.

More HP in exchange for worse HP regen is already a good deal since pills are going to heal you back up to full in a fraction of a second anyways. Chameleon is literally broken, you can still shoot at enemies and be invisible at the same time.
>>

I only have it in case banshee manages to get into the room after some other enemy breaks one of the barricades. Makes short work of babies, especially if you throw a molotov at the banshee first.

moth and life upgrade (second is arguable) are the only skills i found to be useful. A clock completely eliminates the need to sprint if you play on normal since dieing is a nonissue. Looking 360 is too situational and often locks you out for some time out of more needed skills if in bunker which makes it redudndant. eating wood or mushrooms could be potentially useful if not competing with better skills. I dont know i need to aggree with op skills are borderline useless if good prepaired. An anon earlier mentioned being able stay unseen when bunkered for 12 days, this might be op af compared to the benefits given by skills.

being abelt to not be seen and minimizing the rsik of not surviving a night is objectivly more beneficial compared to the traits (andsideffects) since its the only real failstate/punishment for death. O no, dying is an issue but only in the night.

>>388968418
You don't really do much crafting beyond making healing items and the odd weapon. the game isn't really about crafting.
There's no real base building either beyond barricading your doors and windows and once you get an hour or two in you can just buy planks from the trader instead of having to forage for them.

>that first dream sequence where you grab a bunch of stones

This game is one hell of a trip

Dreams are random though, there's no fixed order.
>>
Has anyone managed to beat the black chomper in the prologue?

The dream will end as soon as he bites you, but it is possible to dodge and deal damage to him. I'm wondering what would happen if you managed to kill it.

There are like 4 more. I tried.

I have no idea what's going on.

There's no way home, there never was. It's just as he said- all roads lead deeper into the woods.

That's why he wanted to stick together and disencourage the protagonist from looking for the key, he accepted the truth and wanted ot make the best out of the shitty situation.

what difficulty should i do first playthrough?
>>
>>388975019
there is pretty much no penalty for dying on normal so idk.
>>
>>388975019
I feel like hard is the best choice. Multiple lives still allow the player to make mistakes, but also prevent him from abusing some mechanics and force you to put effort into survival.
>>
>>388975019

To fuck around and see what works i would suggest normal. The other modes are prob really just for people with exp since skill comes from exp more than anything in this game
>>
>>388975019
given that the game has several branching paths you could try to do harder difficulties on subsequent playthroughs

Chapter 2 can suck my dick, game should've ended when I executed the doctor and took my key back

>le unkillable, undodgable enemy
Who? The Swamper? Just snipe in with a hunting rifle, dies in one shot.

>enemy thats faster than you and always shows up in twos
You mean spiders? Take one shot from a hunting rifle to kill as well. They don't show up in twos either, they multiply if you let them live long enough.

As a matter of fact everything except chompers and elks dies in one shot from a hunting rifle. Even chompers will die in one shot from any shotgun.

And even if you don't have the hunting rifle or bullets for some reason, pistol will kill them in 3-4 shots.

I been doing this with church pews on most of my entrances. I have to hop in through a window to get inside but the only enemies that ever make it to my bunker are dogs.
>>
>>388977489
>>388977880
Swamper you can just run circles around even if he traps you. I'm talking about the centipede. You can't even run away because *teleports behind you* It's instant death.

Didn't know that about spiders, they are manageable I guess.

>implying that its ok because you should have the foresight to bring in 8 stacks of ammo before heading in
I can't explore because I'll run out of ammo that I need to defend myself at night, if a centipede shows up I just alt+f4
>>
>>388977489

i thought game is kill after open door so i didnt took rifle with me. can i go back or aquire a new one?
>>
>>388978198

why not just hit the centipede with your axe
>>
>>388978086
>wide open hole in the bottom of your house
sure buddy
there's only enough furniture to block off one of the three entrances (including the door which you should barricade

Enjoy getting stunlocked by his 0.5 melee attacks per second.

>I'm talking about the centipede. You can't even run away because *teleports behind you* It's instant death.
It takes only 3 pistol shots to kill one and it's literally a sitting duck when it digs out of the ground.

>implying that its ok because you should have the foresight to bring in 8 stacks of ammo before heading in
I mean, you should. The game warns you 3 times that it's a one way trip and you should take important things with you.

But even if you don't, the Three sell one pistol mag, 1 shotgun shell and 1 hunting rifle bullet every day.

Does anyone else find the night strangely comfy in this game? There's just something nice about hiding in the corner of a room while a ton of spooky shit happens outside.
>>
>>388979032
The sunrise is really comfy. Infinite time that you can spend however you like.

I didn't want to go all the way back in to show the pews I dragged over & other small changes I made. I have like 4 of them in my base right now (not all of them are in the original pic). there is only one entrance to my bunker room and the window is completely blocked by a pew. I literally only ever see 1-2 dogs because I'm pretty sure they can jump over shit.

>thinking in terms of the building and not in terms of the house

kek, hideout 3 is like 3 houses inside a larger house, you don't need to block off the whole thing especially considering it is literally a giant light beacon no matter what you do. secure a small area and let the monsters have the rest.
>>
>>388979254
so are pews indestructible then?
you may be able to reduce the dogs coming in if you drag a wardrobe into the space where you have put that chair in the pic.
I did that (minus the pew) and it slotted in perfectly leaving no space for the monsters to push it aside.
They still broke it down all the time but hey, that's what the pew is there for right?
>>
the game is ok.
