There is pretty much no story. You just walk around random places for 10 hours then it ends

There's a good story behind The Evil Within, the game just doesn't bother telling it. From all of the optional written material in the game I got the impression that the protagonist is a really interesting guy most of the time and the game is actually a dull point for him as a person.

Sebastian's voice actor just did a mediocre job, can't say it was bad and I guess it fits the personality of a man who lost his wife and daughter but it was still a pretty dry delivery most of the time.

Yuri Lowenthal doesn't help matters either as the dude has zero range and sounds exactly the same in every role he's ever done.

Sebastian sounded more like he had 0 direction for the most part. Cutscenes ranged from decent to passable while every line spoken during gameplay sounded like somebody just shoved the script in his hand and they took the first take they got with no reading or rehearsal (not that it's a hard job, VAs are such fucking primadonnas).

In order to make any sort of sense out of the story you need to play the two Kidman DLC chapters which change the gameplay up yet a fucking gain.

The story is alright its not amazing and there are an endless parade of irritating instant kills that you will only ever come across through trial and error. Its also really janky at the best of times.

It has some fucking great imagery all the way through and it flies all over the fucking place on seemingly random whims. It will upend you multiple times.

No, Ruvik was the catalyst for STEM.
But Ruvik was forced by MOBIUS, so he was killed and put inside STEM. But MOBIUS plan failed when they found out that Ruvik's conscious is inside STEM.
And that's why our main characters got sent in STEM. The only thing Ruvik want's is to get out of STEM by taking over Leslie's body.

The main game no. The DLCs, absolutely. I honestly gave up with the main game and watched the rest on YT. The DLCs reignited my interest because they were done extremely well.

Also, the director/writer of the DLC is in charge of the sequel and that alone makes it worth it.

Play the game and be ready for really clunky insta-death shit during a few boss encounters.
Other than those the game is fantastic.

Yes.

The story hits the sweet spot between confusion and intrigue. The game clarifies almost nothing and leaves it up to the player to figure most of it out. The most information you ever get comes from the unlockable model viewer.
Most people hate it for that reason, but the story is one of the better parts.
