I know there's a ton of ways to make her easier but a lot people were really young when they fought her and the go to method of playing the game was to just bulldoze through with your starter. Whitney wrecks starters.

She's difficult the first time you fight her because you don't know what you'll be going up against other than it's normal types. She's actually a good boss because you can go out and find easier methods to take her out other than just grinding levels.

almost all the extra bosses in pic related on pre-patch hard difficulty, and even some of the story ones (fuck you arata).
bosses got party-wide buffs that buffed more than your best shit, meanwhile you had to abuse item boosts for days to even get 1 mon down.

Arata was the reason I stopped playing this game. Started out on hard on first run through and nothing was terribly difficult, I figured out early on that if you don't have defense ignoring skills you're pretty boned, however the game was piss easy with them. until you get to Arata. Speed being king was a bit of a problem as well. MetalGarurumon was much more useful than Omegamon as well because of his passive team wide +15% Speed increase. He was pretty much a must have for me as a Guard/Speed Boost All slut.
