Are you implying that Sonic 2 isn't fast? because I'd argue it's faster than S3&K since the zones are shorter and there's less routes. Sonic 1 is the only one that's more platform focused. Also if you're playing CD for speed you're playing it wrong. It's meant for exploration which is why the level design is more vertical

Sonic CD is arguably the one that's the least about going fast and having automated tracks considering you actually need to navigate your way through levels and do backtracking if you want to get the good ending.
