Since all the drones and haters blew their loads yesterday with the trailer and stream, lets actually properly talk about the game today.

Some topics to discuss:
>playing skeleton in coop seems a chore because of social stuff
>the skeleton "play undead" skill seems overpowered as fuck
>should i kill all companion characters that i don't plan on recruiting for their stuff
>should i play as a predefined origin, thus killing a possible companion before the game even starts

It's better than DA:O by the simple virtue that you don't have to fucking confront an NPC to buy DLC.
Bone up on the Divinity wikia to get an idea of what's going on. Start with Divine Divinity.

No point, D:OS is so far removed from DD/BD that you don't lose anything but a few references from going blind.
>>
>>388919787
Might need to create animations for that. Good luck.
>>
>>388919767

All games take place in the same world, but they don't follow the same story.
They do like Elder Scrolls, where games are so far apart, that you don't need to have played the previous ones to enjoy this one.

Also, the mood is a mix of serious and silly, kind of like Metal Gear. If you are turned off by that, beware.

They follow a universe, but they stand alone.
Read up on Dragon Knight, Lucian, Damian, Zandalor, and Bellegar.
Pic related, from what seems like a long time ago now, when DA:2 failed to deliver on "I want to be a dragon" while Divinity 2 let you turn into a dragon.

Go with magic that complement each other, like earth and fire, for an easier time in the early stages of the game. Remember this is not a class-locked game, you can learn other skills as long as you have the stats.
>>
>>388920094
Have one party member talk to someone in their house and use the rest to steal all their shit. The NPC's field of view will be locked towards the party member he is talking to and won't notice anything. Telekinesis is super useful.

It's a love letter to pen & paper RPGs, the main design philosophy is that you should be able to do anything anywhere, so that means doing unconventional things like >>388920335.

>>388920432
Yes, turn based only starts when you're in combat, other characters that aren't in the aggro range will still be able to move around normally, they don't have to stick together at all.
>>
So I just got this game. Which pre-made character has the most interaction with the story? I kind of want to be the lizard but who might be a better pick?
>>
>>388920432
You get a golden cup if you get the enhanced edition. The golden cup turns stuff to gold and it sells for more. A regular fork will maybe go for 1-2 gold. After using the cup, it might sell for 5-7.

Another tip would be to treat Ishmashell with the respect he deserves.

>>

There's probably a ton of skills that aren't up in EA yet, not to mention some combination skillbooks. Making a build now is too preliminary.

I loved that you are able to insta kill the temple boss in OS1, by teleporting him into his own lava spell
>>
>>388920657
It's generally +STAT(DEX, STR, CONS) or +SKILL(Telekinesis, Loremaster, Lockpicking)
>>
>>388920646
Can't say but I assume all the origin stories have a fair share of extra story stuff. It doesn't really matter in the end since you can meet and recruit them ingame and experience their story, taking control of a character in your party works like if you were that character.
>>
>>388920432
>How long is the game?
80 hours to beat in co-op, with goofing around.
>>
Never played the firt one but I've been following the devolopment of this and looks sick.
I decided to get the first one. One quick question, can I create my party members or they are premade? Talking abou D:OS 1 here.
But I'd like to know the answer for 2 aswell, I fucking love being able to create my party members.
>>
>>388920884
So 40 to 50 hours if you only do the main story questline, sort of like Xenoblade?

>playing skeleton in coop seems a chore because of social stuff

what does it do?
>>
>>388920969
>did they keep adding content/ patching/ fixing the original game
That's the Enhanced Edition.
If you want to rage, rage for Dragon Commander. Now that's a game Larian had to abandon halfway in order to focus on Divinity Original Sin. DC felt like it got the Xenogears treatment.
>>
>>388920969
They released an enchanted edition you got for free if you owned the orignal(sin). Added grenades, dual wield wands and full voice acting and more quests.
>>
>>388921030
Peasants don't like spooky scary skeletons
>>
>>388920191
It doesnt plays like xcom though, its more about controlling the battle than controlling risk. You will take a lot of damage, heal it back, prevent it and dish it out, hit chances might as well not exist.
>>
>>388920908
You get a bunch of presets that you can customize however you want, same thing in 2 where you even have the choice of your race.
>>
>>388920908
In the first one you have 2 Main party member and then 2 more you can recruit. The main ones are made at the beginning and you can do whatever. I made a mage with knowledge in all magic schools on a second play-through. The other 2 cannot be changed. You can pick the lone wolf trait that gives some bonuses like more xp or more skill points per level but you can't have a companion. Both of the main characters can have it and you party is now just 2 people.

>>388920989
Scoundrel! The bonuses he gives aren't that good.
>>
>>388921130
>its more about controlling the battle than controlling risk
Now that's an apt description for the goal of the combat system in DivOS2. With the AI being a dickwad it's definitely a tug of war.

It comes as a surprise to many that have been playing RPGs that it's even possible to do the things you can do in DivOS and DivOS2. Kinda sad actually.
>>
>>388921396
Still the option is available. You can also lure them into a nearby house and take them out that way.
>>
>>388921458
Make a fort out of chairs and big ass braziers and funnel your enemies to you one at a time.
>>
>>388919505
Making all the companions custom seems to go against design philosophy. They even made it so the protagonist can pick an "origin", effectively you playing as one of the possible companions and completing their side quest as your main.
So it may fuck up the story.
>>
>>388921545
It isn't against design philosophy at all when it's custom, don't forget this game has game master mode and the first one had a mod to let in 6 characters. You don't have to pick an origin story, which makes those origin story companions available for recruitment.
>>
>>388920521

He looks really cool. I hope they added more beard like his for custom dorfs, because so far they've been really shitty.
>>
>>388921629
I mean to say that perhaps the "main quest" is just a combination of all the "side quests" for companions and potentially the protag.
As in, the different origins compose the main quest thread, so if you make them all custom the main quest may not make sense.
Sven said that in the end the whole party can "win" together, as in all their personal quests can find a common solution, which is the ultimate main quest solution.

Just speculating, but it seems like the game wants you to have 3-4 origin side quests going to make sense of the end.
>>
Will it be boring as fuck like the first?

I really wanted to like 1 but it was so insanely boring. That first town is nothing but fetch quests, the writing was horrible, I hated the forced coop thing (which it looks like they've kept), and hearing that the first town is the peak for quality made me just drop it entirely.
>>
>>388919089
The problem with Cyseal is that theres a lot of talking but after that theres literal fucking hours of fighting
However, you cant cut the talking short, by talking to the legion lady sitting in the middle of the legion camp, she'll ask you to help the legion, which you can do right away and postpone the investigation a bit.

Even if you dont know shit its hard to miss her, since she's in the path to the Legion HQ were you have to speak with the commander at least once, a lot of people will try to get the talking out of the way though, thinking there cant be too much of it, but there is.
>>
>>388921545
Not really. All companions really do is have unique tags that allow for unique, but optional events. They might add a bit more meat to the story and the individual characters, but I really doubt they'll be essential or even necessary to the story in any way.

This does make me wonder whether you'll be able to mod in custom tags for custom interactions and shiet, especially for GM mode.
modded slut tag for ADWR-esque adventures when

He dressed up as a warrior to hide his identity and was strong just because his stats were so high that the STR of a lvl 100 mage was enough to kill the monsters of that zone without effort.
It was hilarous.

IIRC, each class capped at 20 levels. However, the combination of lich, necromancer, and something else unlocked a hidden superclass with only 5 levels called Eclipse - and each level in Eclipse gave you a superability.

The entire game was built like that - layers upon layers upon layers of secrets, none of which were documented, and part of being a successful guild was uncovering these secrets and hording it among guildmates.

Real talk, what's your first playthrough going to be like?
I want to play on normal/classic but at the same time I want to see all the differences they've made to tactician mode but I'm afraid I'll get my shit kicked in because even on classic the DOS2 beta had some encounters that were pretty tough the first time around
I was originally going to go with Dwarf origin main character with Sebille, Ifan and Red Prince as my companions but since it seems like Larian's either rebalanced or removed the racial stat bonuses I might have to reconsider. While playing an undead looks like fun I think people here are vastly underestimating how much of a hassle it is to have one in the party.

It was utterly retarded at first

But the tactician mode they added made the AI pretty good. It was a challenge where a single turn could doom your whole part if you utterly screwed up.

The AI is already pretty good in this, almost annoyingly so if you dont know the skills and how they work.

also why the fuck is the rogue knife throw skill so op, it does like two hits of your total dual wield damage

Gonna have a single player and a co op save I guess. Co op I'll buddy up with a guy with two custom skeltals, a lizard and an elf. We're just gonna goof off I guess, and probably won't get very far. Single player I'll be making a wizard and play normally, though I'm not sure on companions yet. Eventually I'll want to make a playthrough of four custom characters if it's possible, just because.
>>
>>388923328

Because it's a bug. During yesterday's stream they said it'll be fixed and rogues nerfed for the final release

It's just third person. Instead of picking a specifically tailored string of dialogue you just select an *action*
Some autists on /v/ dislike it solely because of the asterisks but ultimately it's probably the superior system since you're left to imagine what your character actually said.

Based on what's available in the Game Master mode this seems to be the final tier of skills unless there's a another tier of abilities that exclusively can be obtained ingame.
Personally I expected there to be more tiers than this, but considering half of them share icons with late game OS1 abilities I take it you aren't supposed to find these until very late into the game. Considering how devastating even regular source spells are I guess these also are pretty good although it seems like 4-5 of them are the same "fuck this area in particular" kind of medium-sized AOE nukes
I'm mostly curious about the scoundrel, necromancy, summoning and polymorph abilities since I don't recognise the icons and don't know what they do. The scoundrel ability might be some kind of execution ability but I have no idea about the others.

>I love mixbags and jack of all trades classes
You'll probably like it then, at least assuming you don't mind turn based combat and a relatively word heavy early game. If you try to leave the first town while underlevelled you'll probably get fucked over.
It's worthwhile to mention that there are no set 'classes' in the game. The ''''classes'''' at the beginning should instead be treated like presets that determine your starting weapon and initial stat distribution. It's possible and encouraged to branch out and pick multiple schools of magic all while being a melee user. Putting one point into most skills will allow you to unlock some basic advantages from the various skill trees, but it's best to mainly focus on one or two of the trees.
>>

realy?
This could be interresting.
one thing i noticed is that the whole "party split up thing" ends up falling short al ot unless you make a meme build since most the encounters are created around 4 characters.

Id find it interresting if you could have the party split up with every character recruiting mercs for combat

>>
>>388932719
Sure. I'd recommend enabling an AI for both characters for the dialog to mix things up a little.. The game was sort of meant to be played in co-op with conversations happening between the two player characters, where you could agree and disagree on various choices throughout the game. Without an AI, you'd have to pick each character's dialog option and sort of role-play with yourself. With an AI, you only pick one character's, and the other responds according to their personality AI. Can lead to some interesting stuff happening regarding choices. Might not be for everyone, but I enjoyed playing that way.

I already played OS1 solo, got a little burned in the middle, ended up finishing 80+hours, wanted to see what you had to say in comparison.

Can I go full armor + full magic?

Yes to all

I'm a big RPG fan but when i heard that this game had turn-based combat I assumed the worst. I was never a big fan of turn-based 'tactical" combat since I'm not intelligent enough or however you want to put it to do it justice. Hell, i couldn't beat final fantasy tactics advance. It just got super hard around the second "primal" guy...famfrit? Like, normal encounters got super hard too like, i couldn't even go back and fight lower level enemies to boost my characters, I just fell behind and had to give up.

Sorry for the rant, at any rate i looked up a video and the combat seems....ok, I guess? I mean fi there's just MY character than I suppose? How difficult is the combat? Is there a possibility I can fuck up my build like i do all the time in the tactics games and just be unable to continue the game?

I REALLY want to play this game for the RPG aspects. Seriously, being able to be an undead adventurer who has to hide himself from the general public? That's insane! But pirating is out of the question because I don't know how and I live in Canada so I don't want to get arrested. Plus I only really play game i want to pay for anyway.
>>
>>388933294
>So is OS2 worse for a solo playthrough?
Impossible to tell as the full game isn't even out yet
Currently many of the OS2 solo builds rely on abusing AP-giving abilities and talents, both of which are going to be nerfed with the 1.0 patch. I still think it's going to be possible though.

>>388933326
Yes, as long as you have the appropriate skill and magic levels. I don't think there's a necromancy skill in OS1, but there are some abilities that let you summon skeletons.
>>
>>388933294
I don't know
>>
Are there any gameplay enhancing mods for the first game? Thinking of playing it before the sequel's out.
>>
>>388933326
Technically yes, but in practice it involves a lot of spreading of stats. Magic has reduced cooldowns and greater effects the more int you have, and some heavier gear requires more strength. I think they lowered stat requirements on gear in enhanced edition a little, but I'm not too sure. I personally got a little bummed out that I couldn't really do some hybrid builds I wanted because of stat requirements, like I wanted a pyromantic two-handed swordsman in light armor, but that would have needed investment in too many stats, especially in endgame. Not sure how true that is anymore, though, but I'd wish equipment had no stat requirements.

>>
>>388933716
Don't worry.
It's hard, but not in a way that you completely screw yourself during character creation, there are so many ways to approach every single situation, it's not all about the combat. You can still pick an easier difficulty.
>>
>>388935282
I'll proably pick it up then. Is the september undead update the full blown release then? Should I wait?
>>
>>388933131
Roleplaying.
Origins.
Interactions that ignore the shapeshifting mask.
>>
>>388934508
No they're not. Anyone that has played the games can tell that the co-op is merely a neat addition that is in no way necessary.
>>
>>388935491
It's out of the 14th.
>>
Let's say I create a custom skelly, will I be able to do all the companion quests in a single playtrough, by switching out party members after a time? Or will I have to choose 3 of the origin characters and be stuck with them? They all seem more or less interesting, I don't have any of them I don't care for like some companions in other games.
>>
>>388935795
You can switch them out as you see fit.
However, I'm pretty sure you'll miss out on their origin storyline unless you're playing as them.

>>
>>388933716
theres an easy mode.
other than that, git gud.
stats wise its less of a hassle as FFTA but you got all the surfaces which isnt a thing in FFTA, honestly if famfrit was hard for you i dont know what to tell you, maybe this realy isnt the genre for you.

or you were underleveld int hat case this isnt a problem in Original Sin since you cant grind in this game and thus its not required

encounters are sometimes designed as puzzles of sorts with enviromentla hazards and whatnot.

Im not gonna lie to you, Original sin is all about the combat and the combat is very very well done.
If you realy hate thist ype of combat i dont know if i could actually recommend this game to you, its a lot of this combat because this is what it actually excels at.

Still theres an easy mode, maybe play with friends who are more used to the genre.

Yep.

>with their origin story as a sidequest
Not sure. The game makes a clear distinction between a main character and companions, and even in Act 1 there are some things that only a main character can do.
At best, I assume you'll be missing out on some content.
>>
>>388936586
yes but you dont get to pick their dialgoue choices for them for their origin quests.

This is an intended feature as it means your party members sometimes have different agendas to your main character.

Sybille and the Red Prince for example both are after the same guy in fort joy, Red needs him for a quest while sybille wants to off him
>>
>>388937227
>and even in Act 1 there are some things that only a main character can do.
Nope, during dialogue just swap to the Origin character
>>
>>388935575
DOS was clearly designed with coop from the ground up, with things such as the conversations between players giving buffs and so on. The sequel wants to expand the coop aspect even further. Some would even say the game is much worse if you don't play it coop.

>>388937386
That's because in-universe they are meeting their backer simultaneously as you (your main character) though I think Lohse might be an exception. Haven't played as her
In multiplayer I believe both players go in at the same time though AI controlled companions will appear to be absent
>>
>>388937723
Usually I'd immediatly dismiss the elf, but the whole cannibalism and the wierd way they look makes them at least more interesting than the generic elves. The elf origin is also not the worst, ex-slave thing and all.

It's Lohse and the Red Prince I'm most worried about, they seem like they might be a bunch of cunts that need a spanking. The dorf and the skelly look like neat companions, but I don't know much about their origin story.
>>
>>388937659
I just wonder what the hell we're going to get instead. During the stream it was evident that the racial stat bonuses had been altered but during the character creation the chars still had their respective races' stats
