Her rapid fire spells are useful for keeping opponents at bay and in place for a while as well as having less commitment to them so it's not like you always have to wait to charge until attacking, but if you don't like charging at all then she might not be the character for you. Focus mainly on people your team have cornered and who are attacking teammates to interrupt them from afar, and don't stray too far from your team in general.

His attacks were mainly about covering two ranges or having multiple uses, usually close and mid or close and long. His lasers didn't really reach that far out and he wasn't about keeping his distance and firing them off specifically. His playstyle and moveset just fits vanguard way closer in how it was used I would say.

You're already seeing a lot of coordination in Mithril rank though which is pretty much where the good players start showing up.

Know your roles bruv. Assassins are supposed to zip in and out, vanguard have super armor on a number of attacks so you can face tank a number of brave attacks with a counter, specialist can jump between vanguard and marksman style play, and marksman is run away and blow things up.

Vanguards aren't only about knocking people away, they're generally heavy hitting team fighters with many ways to distract and break into groups from close to mid range while staying in the thick of combat. Looking at the vanguards already in the game there's a lot of parallels, and I don't see him being a specialist unless they add some new trick to his moveset, which they don't really have to since there isn't really anyone that quite does his thing. But who knows what they'll do, it'll be cool either way.

I notice the Japanese make their teams 1 marksman 2 assassin/vanguard and the 2 keep an eye on their marksman in case they get gangbanged on. They really capitalize on the enemy finishing attacks/missing attacks, and switch targets a lot instead of solo targeting one person the entire match like retard NA.

but they've had the game longer. I have a feeling people will catch on to what works when the game comes out.....hopefully

Since the game is now 3v3 they wanted to add someone based around and taking advantage of that who wouldn't have really fit as well before. Plus they probably wanted to have a cat because XIV is one of the few games with different playable races so she helps represent that.

The only part of the game that can actually legitimately be said to have been dumbed down/removed with no equivalent is the removal of Quick Move, which honestly is a huge shame and should never have been removed because it would have worked great with dash being a resource now and dodges being non-vertical since before dash and dodge would almost always make it unnecessary.
But literally no one that actually tries to bitch about this game actually thinks about or uses that as an example.

You also have to consider that people are only going to upload matches of high level gameplay. It's how the whole "level: asian XD" bullshit started to begin with, and it's why easterners have the same misconception (but in reverse) that westerners do.

Stopping two people from comboing one person infinitely only takes one other person to approach and hit one of them, of which you have two of on your side while they only have one more to watch their back. What I was saying was that even should the mechanic get ported directly into the game there would be many more ways around potential infinites with the wallrush limit, teammates and invincibility from HP attacks, so old infinites aren't really a reason for scrapping the entire mechanic. Not that it really matters anyway since they wouldn't just add it in exactly the same way, having it return would let them tweak it and remove whatever the infinite was, which is only another reason why I don't understand them not bringing it back.

I didn't make my original comment to talk about the supposed balance of infinites, only to say that old infinites don't have to be a factor in entirely removing mechanics in new games, especially with many other changes already in place. Sephiroth's timed dash cancelling is nothing like Quick Move at all. Quick Move was the context sensitive movement options done with Triangle like grinding, running on walls and making leaps across certain gaps, which is entirely gone except for wallrunning which is just added onto dash, still costs meter and only lets you go up. The only reason I ever heard that might point to why they removed it is something related to how the stages they added first were fairly basic, because they didn't know how they wanted to design the stages just yet since it would have an effect on the balance. But that's only slightly connected to the mechanic itself and doesn't really say anything about it.

While it'd have a pretty big effect on how the game works and require them to have a look over all the stages again it doesn't seem impossible that they would bring it back. Maybe if there was more and consistent demand for it it would be more likely, and it'd actually be a fun and positive change for the game unlike what people tend to whine about.

Can't speak for everyone but I found it a ton of fun, it made moving around the stages really satisfying and flowed really well, plus it rewarded learning the layouts and being aware of what you can do where. At least it would have if dash didn't make it almost entirely obsolete, but this game doesn't have that issue.

I didn't mind how dashing was for the most part either but it made all the other movement options like even running kinda pointless. Adding a gauge to dashes isn't really the way I would have done it though, especially since it recovers so fast anyway and they also reduced the speed which could have been enough and yet again would have made even more sense with Quickmove being the alternate movement ability reliant on positioning and awareness. The way it is now does work but I feel like it could have been handled just a bit better or cleverer.

Not even. The only thing that is remotely skillful is dash cancelling which itself is a more generous window than squalls trigger. But unlike squall you can be not learn it and be fine, where as not learning trigger as quall means you're doing up 400 damage instead of just under 700 damage
