/v/!
How's that game going?
>>388890662
>Not using Godot
>>388890662
I just want someone to make a survival sandbox game in unreal that is harvest moon/stardew valley/rune factory focused instead of a pvp shitheap.
>>388891249
Why don't you do it?
>>388891249
Re:Legend on kickstarter
>>388890979
How much does Godot respect my freedoms.
>>388891249
With or without dating mechanics?
Been working on adding in a bit more flavor to animations. The outline on the characters is the signal for when you need to press for the next attack.
Like SHIT!
>>388891282
I'm working on a sprite based one actually. I can't into blender animations and texturing 3d models since I just do this as a hobby. Currently have my inventory menu gui working along with basic character movement and screen resizing and so on.
>>388891349
That actually looks pretty snazzy. Just praying they don't make it ultra grindy or some bullshit.
>>388891567
With. Devs will get more dollars from the sad sacks of human flesh that populate steam nowadayslike me.
Working hard and not smart, too late to backtrack.
>>388891671
Looking good anon. Clubby is a weird name for that bear tho imo, what about Cootie Patootie or something? It's all you tho my man, nice work
Also, you should make the screen shake when your member gets hit! Or was she guarding?
>>388892297
As an opposing opinion, I hate screen shakes. After a long day of work it gives me a bit of a headache to come home and have the screen jittering all over. Unless it's a crit you got hit with or something unique that you should take notice of. Including an option to turn it off would be fine though.
>>388892297
it was a bug, there is meant to be a shake but I didn't notice til now
i gave up before i even began
I've been waiting for my new CPU to come in the mail for weeks, my current computer runs in snail's pace while unreal is open.
In the meantime I've been learning how to use blender.
Hopefully I can get back to working on the actual game as soon as possible.
>>388890662
>learning how to use this piece of shit in college
>class pacing too slow
i just wanna rip off Castlevania already and wow the aspies
>>388892104
I CAN DRAW AND CODE AND WRITE BUT I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THE FUCK A VIDEO GAME IS
>>388892964
Hey, not bad, anon!
Were you completely new to 3D modeling or just Blender?
>>388890662
>tfw I tried to make a game in the vein of Megaman ZX using Game Maker
>gave up because I couldn't figure out how to get functioning wall jumps with blueprints and didn't want to learn how to code.
Oh well. art and animation were more my thing anyway.
>>388890662
>tries getting help for days on some camera bug
>no help
>quit
>>388893348
Just blender, I've been modeling off and on for about a 8 months in other programs.
>>388893425
Well, post it here. Maybe some anon can help
>>388891671
Inker I thought you didn't browse /v/ anymore. Unless you're Cox
Getting back on track after a bit of a break. I added card pack purchasing where you can pull either cards or skills.
Just finished a boss. A little over halfway done programming all the bosses, but all of them still need art, polish, sounds, etc. While sequencing this boss, accidentally made a pattern impossible. It looks nice but I obviously can't keep it.
>>388893909
Is the blue effect a placeholder? It seems a little jarring compared to the crisp pixel graphics of the rest.
Im a 30 year old virgin NEET living with his poor parents and I want to make millions of dollars selling my first game so that I can get rid of my anxiety and depression (I dont know how to program, draw, or make music btw). Wish me luck! :D
>>388893769
What is this?
>>388894283
Multiplayer PvP game inspired by Megaman Battle Network.
>>388890662
I would love to make my own game one day but the most I can do is program and 3D model. These topics are pretty inspirational for me.
>>388894081
I might change the texture overlay, but it's always going to look fuzzy. I just like it that way. The other item has a jarring effect too. It's quick so it's not as noticeable though, but I wanted them to look eye catching.
>>388894108
Quick anon I need an idea and only YOU can help
>>388894604
You're gonna anger the >rotating pixel autists
>>388894604
nice za warudo
>>388894558
Well, get to it. What are you waiting for?
>>388894558
What do you feel is missing if you've already got modelling and programming down? No ideas?
>>388895109
Not OP but maybe art, story, gameplay ideas
>>388895018
I guess the cliche answer would be is that I don't really know what to make. The only idea that I really have is a fan-made game of Death Note, but that's because I watched the shitty film a few days ago.
>>388895109
Precisely. I was thinking of just going with whatever came to mind and seeing what comes out of it.
>>388895109
Not OP but art, story, and gameplay ideas are what I am having huge trouble with in my quest to make a game.*
(Last post sent prematurely)
>>388894717
Haven't got any yet.
>>388894805
Thanks, Anon.
>>388895109
Unless you want everything to be stiff, you could use an animator too. unless you're confident in that.
>>388895272
Also I have a lack of motivation and of adequate programming knowledge to make a game ( ̄¬ ̄*)
>>388890979
>>388890662
This. You fucked up OP.
>tfw ideas guy
Working with Gamemaker 1, I wanna make a simple platformer to apply sprite art to. I want to know if Drag and Drop features will always be a useful part of the engine or if once I start coding, I won't need it.
>>388895215
Make a game that's like one of your favourite games.
>>388895791
Just get godot, game maker is obsolete now.
>>388895817
not OP but what if I don't know what my favourite games are? Also it feels weird to copy (´Д`。)
>>388895849
Answer the question nig
Stuck in design phase. Probably analysis paralysis DESU. I've kept dev ticking over by building up codebase features I know I want/am likely to end up using.
I keep worrying that everything I come up with won't actually be fun in practice, and don't want to waste vast amounts of time on something I then discard. But equally, I know I need to just get prototyping and go!
>>388895849
okay fine, does it come with helpful tutorials like GM though?
>>388896250
...I didn't write desu... ._. Or am I going mad and I did?
Anyone here using GM2?
How's it?
>>388896363
Word filter, been there for ages. tb h turns into desu, fa m turns into senpai, sm h turns into baka.
>>388896363

depression and suicidal thoughts been pulling me away from my project.
tell me why should i waste time working on a game that no one will like??
>>388896710
if working on the game is making you depressed then don't burn out on it desu
>>388896447
I use it. The UI is actually one hell of a lot better but that's about it. There's not much else in the way of improvements or new features that I've actually used and in the sprite editor it actually has less adjustments than before.
Well your own variables get highlighted now, which is nice. And.. um there's a new camera system that is confusing as fuck at first since it's just stuck on top of the old view system so there's a lot of confusion there (partly because of all the different ways to change views/cameras so certain bits can overlap and affect each other).
Honestly there's not a lot of reason to upgrade yet. I LOVE the new ui, but I also got it a heck of a lot cheaper since I already had pro or whatever it was called. Not worth what they're charging anyways for few improvements.
>>388890662
Wanting to do a platformer about food. Made the main character who is fruit themed but I need to think about everything else.
>>388896871
everything makes me depressed now.
I just wanted to die every single waking moment.
>>388896943
The tile system is a bit better too. Now that there are alternatives out there like Godot though its hard to justify the price for something like GMS though, and Unity's 2D is too bloated to justify too.
Is RPG maker geared only for turn-based combat?
How the fuck do I get rid of the audio on a webm?
VLC just gives me an empty file that crashes it when I try to play it
>>388897075
*free alternatives
>>388896981
Better come up with some sort of gameplay hook. There's a shit ton of platformer "metroidvania-likes" appearing on steam now without greenlight to slow them down.
>>388897075
Haven't tried Godot yet. I just work on my game as a hobby and I'm already familiar with GM so can't really justify starting over again.
>>388897234
It wouldn't be a metroidvania if I decided to move forward on it.
>>388890662
Pretty okay. I'm working on an RPG about socializing and debate rather than conventional violence. I haven't made much progress though after my working laptop broke down.
>>388895953
Don't feel weird about copying. Until you find your own style, emulate things you like.
Anyone using UE4 or Unity here?
How's 3D developing?
>>388890662
>How's that game going?AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>>388896710
I work on my game and go to the gym to avoid suicide and suffocate depressive thoughts. Those are the only two things I do besides sleeping.
Can't be depressed if you become obsessed with game development, the game industry, and health and fitness. There's just too much to accomplish / learn so there should never be any "i'm bored and therefore have time to think negative thoughts" moments.
>>388897629
it's... nice
>>388898031
>go to the gym to avoid suicide and suffocate depressive thoughts
that's the biggest myth of all time.
going to gym or whatever sport/exercises doesn't keep you from depression.
>>388897151
Yes, by default they are only turn-based. However, recent RPG Makers also allow you to script your own plugins (or use one of the many available for free online), so you can change the combat system to something else if you'd like.
>>388896710
Don't worry about whether or not other people will like it. The first thing people create is rarely a masterpiece. Everyone has to start somewhere. I know it's easier said than done; I struggle with these thoughts too. You will be overly critical of your own work, and you will feel its never good enough. If possible, find an outside source that you trust to give you criticism.
I struggle with suicidal thoughts and depression myself. The good times aren't gone for good, anon. You might need some support, but you can get through this. Please check yourself into the ER if you're seriously considering hurting yourself.
How do you manage graphics in terms of resolution of original assets? Do you draw everything for max Res (1080 or 4k) and then load the texture into a sprite/etc and scale it based on the users resolution?
Working on gay kemoshota porn so I can afford to work on game stuff in a month or so. Wish me luck.
Test
>>388898223
Not him, but speaking from my own experience doing physical activity like running and calisthenics did make me feel a lot better. It's really difficult to get yourself to do that kind of shit when you can't even bring yourself to get out of bed, though.
>>388890662
I got all the characters and the vital points of the plot written down, but I don't even know how to make a video game so I think I'll just make a novel.
Kinda sad about it because I had thought out some fun mechanics for an SRPG, but if I wait for learning how to make a game I'll end up never doing anything.
I started and finished an insignificant enemy today, so that's something.
>>388898223
The fuck you talking about, during and after the gym I always feel noticeably better than before. I've literally never felt MORE depressed after going to the gym. It doesn't keep you from depression but it does help make each day far more bearable.
>>388899093
Hey I like your art style!
>>388899093
Looks neato, what is it about?
>>388890662
Feature creeping, but still going.
IDEAS ARE JUST AS IMPORTANT LEARNING CODING LANGUAGE!
>>388899810
It's a game about possessing enemies and trying to gain control of everything.
>>388900510
Good concept, i love it!
>>388899931
Ideas are actually more important since there are fewer great dreamers than there are great code monkeys.
Too stupid to make a video game, don't have a solid concept for one besides. Wouldn't know where to fucking start.
what should a design document look like?
>>388901087
S A M E
All I have are shitty anime ideas but I have neither the knowledge nor motivation to make them
>>388899093
Great art style anon, it reminds of of that early-mid 90's Toejam and Earl kind of stuff.
>>388901186
I just use wikis for my design docs.
It's going ok
Does anyone know how to do something like this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ul0Gilv5wvY
>>388890662
Still haven't decided on a proper idea to roll with, so I'm going to challenge myself to get a shitty Halloween game done in the next 2 months just to get myself actively working on something.
What do you guys think I should do? A horror game, or just a Halloween-themed game?
Today I worked on enemy AI for the very first time today.
I followed a guide to set up A* and make the enemy follow the player.
Tomorrow/this weekend I'm going to use that as a base to write my own scripts that let the enemy actually walk along the floor and jump.Small steps anons, small steps
Am currently trying to make a hacking/programming game but still deciding if I should make a new language specifically for the programming portions of the game, or if I should limit it to a set of commands that can be accessed.
>>388890979
I don't fucking get Godot
>>388902101
Did something using neural networks before, but not for game AI. The basis of all if not most AI is training data and computing power. Unless you are ready to spend tons of hours/days just letting your AI walk back and forth training how to walk like that, I suggest that you stay away from this for now. Or take up a Computer Science degree and specialize in AI.
>>388902638
I'm pursuing a CS degree but I'm not in college yet :/ and I'd be completely fine with letting my AI walk back and forth, it's cool
>>388890979
Because I can't learn for shit just from documentation.
Also I've heard it's a bit weak with 3d.
>>388902548
