>>
>>388890094
Denuvo works by running a virtual machine. Given the game was delayed 4 days away from release strictly to add Denuvo, it's safe to say these requirements were measured while it was Denuvo-free.

It's malware. Before you contend this, it fits the security definition of malware.

>>388889613
This.

>>388890094
0. Specs were published before Denuvo was added. Not updated after, no testing was done.
1. Companies are not legally liable for specs and they're only ever estimates.
2. Denuvo is known and proven to cause performance issues with its hypervisor virtual machine layer.
3. You can read reviews on steam of people who pre-ordered and said Denuvo slowed it down compared to their console versions. Before you claim all of them run toasters, go actually read the sheer number of reviews.
4. Via the same reviews, Denuvo is preventing people from playing with a popup telling them they're in offline mode (they aren't). Sega claimed this was a "bug" (it's not. it's a Denuvo feature) and that they patched it (they didn't, recent reviews say people are still having this problem after the patch). There's no way to prove they didn't just send a 1-week token and this problem won't resurface in 7 days. Did I mention this Denuvo phone-home feature is only good for 7 days at a time?
5. In addition to phone-home and performance problems, Denuvo locks you out of other OSes like Mac and Linux. Any time you can play a game in *nix, you absolutely fucking should, as it increases framerate even in Wine.
6. With Denuvo in a game, once auth servers are down, it's expired permanently and can never be played again. Darkspore is evidence that companies won't remove the DRM just because the servers expired.
7. PC players shouldn't have to pay the same for more encumbered software.
8. The free Sonic 1 game 14 days before release expired everyone's right to refund it on Steam. Whether intentional or not, people can no longer exercise their consumer rights against having a Denuvo game. You only have to read the reviews to find out they really fucking hate it.
9. Consider not sucking corporate cock next time you post.

Potato potato, it's the same thing. You're disregarding a fact because you don't like it.

>Giving something money doesn't mean you can do whatever you want.
It's not like there's only one copy of Sonic Mania and if you tamper with it than you change the game for everyone. You purchased an item, you own that item, you can do whatever you want to that item. If I smashed a wooden chair I owned against the wall, i'm not breaking any rules. Sure, i'm being a fucking idiot in doing so, but I own the chair, I own the house, I can do it if I want to.
>>
>>388897251
I'm disregarding a fact because it's not relevant
So it fits the technical definition of malware. So what? Why is malware inherently bad?

>You purchased an item, you own that item
You own the right to play the game how the seller intends as outlined in the user agreement.

Nigga it's in the first 3 letters

Mania is a Sonic game made my fans who started out their careers by modding Sonic games. It's a slap in the face to the dev team for Sega to add in Denuvo at the last second as it ineffectively prevents the game from being modded. The devs are pissed about it too, they've been passive-aggressively rallying people to bitch at Sega for adding it.

Okay, if you want the specific classification of malware for Denuvo, it would be the following:

Trojan.Rootkit

Trojans are split into several categories. Here's one:

Rootkits are designed to conceal certain objects or activities in your system. Often their main purpose is to prevent malicious programs being detected – in order to extend the period in which programs can run on an infected computer.

Source: Kaspersky classification system

Since Denuvo runs a black-box virtualization layer, it could be running anything in there. Including harvesting your data without your consent. I'm not saying I believe it does, but blackboxing in an unwanted software automatically qualifies it as malware. Don't believe it's unwanted? Check the reviews.

At the most conservative, Denuvo can be classified as a "PUP". But the common trait with PUPs is that usually, they either get accidentally installed, or forcibly installed with some way to remove them. PUP means "Potentially Unwanted Program". Potentially means it wasn't solicited. Since no one asked for Denuvo, it's unsolicited.

None of this even takes into consideration the types of malware that screw performance. Denuvo in general has been proven (Doom, Rime) to ruin performance in the same games on the same systems versus when it was removed. Viruses and Trojan.Downloader/Dropper types typically do this.
>>
>>388885385

kind of wish he didn't have so much fucking history with Sonic Team so someone else could take the lead and unfuck things

Pirate or not either way you get Denuvo on your computer.

IIRC all cracks do is just disable it. It still gets into your systems like a Trojan horse.

Original poster of this here. I left out 2 points against Denuvo because I had no evidence for them yet. However, I've since found some sources. I'll share one of which at the bottom of the post. Feel free to check others yourself, the rabbit hole gets deep.

10. Denuvo has been reported by many people to brick SSDs. Since SSDs have a limited number of NAND writes, and Denuvo was chewing through max-writes at an alarming rate, it has been making SSDs into read-only bricks. Found a confirmed account below.

11. Denuvo is so strict it doesn't just stop other-OS usage. It also stops the built-in Steam family sharing feature. Even original account owners were having a problem playing (see 4 above). However, it completely locks out family share by design. You have to be the original account owner to even launch the game. Video evidence below.

The quality of the game correlates to the amount of time needed to crack it.
>>
>>388907806
>disable it
They only satisfy its token requests. Denuvo fully functions on pirated copies. nu-DOOM was taking a solid 5 minutes to load on pirated copies, same as official. When Denuvo was stripped, it loaded in a much more reasonable time frame.

I mean, you're not fucking wrong, but look at the game we're talking about here.

y-you think we educated them?

>EVEN WHEN THEY DON'T FUCKING DEVELOP IT

Wait, so this is fanmade? They could just plop the Denovo right in even after the development?
>>
>>388908852
From what I gather, Pagodawest only worked directly on the PS4 version. Switch had some straya studio, PC presumably got Sega of Europe, Xbone who cares.
>>
>>388908852
Yeah, the game was made pretty much entirely by fans who were active in the Sonic modding community over the years, there's no way Sega would've been able to capture the essence of the classic games as well as Mania did. The devs are pretty pissed too, but I can't find the image i'm looking for right now.
>>
>>388908082
i have no investment in this debate either way but i can confirm point 2 in this post is not true in 100% of situations as my bud was able to play mania family shared from me before i had ever even launched it myself
maybe it happens to other people but it did not in my case

You can look up Christian "Taxman" Whitehead's tweets. He dropped a cryptic tweet about DRM immediately after the PC delay announcement stream.

Aaron doesn't give a shit
He's just a PR kike

All he's doing is directing people to Sega Support so they don't complain at him
If he really cared he would talk to the devs directly seeing as he's the Brand Manger
>>
I'd love to actually compare time attacks on PC instead of all this hacking

You don't know that he didn't, that wouldn't be something that he'd advertise on his Twitter. Like you said, he's a PR kike. And do you honestly think that they would listen to him? This is a Japanese company we're talking about here, they value seniority above all else, and that's not something that Aaron has.

>the Steam-page removed the "recent reviews" consensus due to how universally-negative it got

You'd think SEGA would put their apparent effort in blockading all the bad press into actually fixing the problem and removing DRM, but then I remembered this is SEGA I'm talking about.

Not to suck his cock or anything, but how do you know that's not what he's doing? Hell, they probably told him to do that if he brought it up to anyone.
