Dead Space 2 was pretty good. It and the first one kinda had an Alien/Aliens dichotomy, where they both had their positives even if they felt tonally different.
Dead Space 3 was such a far cry from the original that it was shit, I'll agree to that.

First game had great atmosphere and level design, but for what the second one lacks in those areas, it makes up for with the improved gameplay
Less clunky controls, no mouse acceleration, a few more interesting weapons, and Kinesis that was actually fucking usable

I didn't mind Dead Space 3 when I first played it, but replaying it now after binging on the first two games, they made enemies a lot more bullet spongy
That's my biggest complaint, short of the terrible story
