The remake was cancelled, they decided they'd rather make a new game than a remake after Pathologic Classic HD was released.
Their reasoning is that there is no point in remaking a game that's already perfectly fine thanks to the HD re-release so they'd rather make something new.
>>
>>388851363
>Drilling through a persons skull to find a key

Yeah there's the Pathologic I know and love. This looks really promising.

Is the HD version any good? Mostly asking about translation because the original was nigh impossible to follow.
>>
>>388856104
The HD version has a revised and corrected script. its way easier to understand whats going on now.
>>
>>388856373
Nice, I should look into buying/downloading it then.

Hm, if I actually bought the original Pathologic legit should I feel entitled to the HD remake? Nah, I should probably just give Ice-Pick my money anyways.

? From reading the blog post it seems like they just renamed it to 2 to avoid confusion since there's already like 3 versions of regular Pathologic out there. The remake was always going to be a from-the-ground-up sort of deal.

I think you can upgrade for free/really cheap depending on where you bought the original, like GOG. Or it might have been a limited time thing.
>>
>>388856710
>depending on where you bought the original

I legit bought it in a normal box out of a game store, and I think that was before GOG or Steam were even a thing. Short of taking a photo and sending it to Ice-Pick I don't think I'm gonna get that one free.

Again, I should just give them my money they deserve it. I should mention I also got The Void legit and weirdly enough it had it's special edition (and title) in my country.

Here's the box and the contents. As you can see it's called "Tension" which was really weird because it's an English title despite this being a Polish release. I suppose it was just translated before they had plans to release the game worldwide. It's also a more literal translation of the original Russian title. Also sorry for the shitty quality my phone's lens is fucked.

The box contains the game DVD, Soundtrack and the additional booklets are instructions, a small guidebook with general tips and - the weirdest thing - a poem booklet of in-game poems and some unrelated stuff.

It was also published by a book company rather an a game publisher. I just guess someone looked at it, got enamored with it and decided to soup up the edition in hopes of making it more attractive. Not that I mind.

Though I still need to actually BEAT the game.

It's the same thing they've been working on just rebranded a bit. I don't know if I like the marketing direction Tinybuild is putting forward, feels like Nikolay tried to explain the game to them, they didn't get it, and are now billing it as an "open world survival horror where you find out who killed you father."

I get that it's still gonna be IPL's vision and game in the end, I just hope they aren't pressured by Tinybuild into adding some unnecessary shit to appeal to normies or whatever.

But yeah, go for it. Save every cycle and every time you go fight a Brother or do something big, hell, just savescum a lot. It might ease some of the Tension but a least you won't get irreparably fucked.

God, I nearly forgot. How is the English voiceacting though? The Polish one was surprisingly on-point which happens rarely. And yeah they picked good actors to recite the poems.

It's completely baffling and confusing decision, so let's make this very clear:
NOTHING WAS CANCELED.

THE REMAKE HAS BEEN RENAMED TO PATHOLOGIC 2, EVEN THOUGH IT ISN'T A REAL SEQUEL.

It's the same bloody thing they had kickstarted and have been working on pretty much since they finished Knock-Knock. New publisher just rebranded the remake for some inexplicable reason.
>>
>>388851363
I want to give Ice Pick Lodge my money and buy Pathologic, as I always wanted to play the game, but never got to it.
Sadly they only offer a Steam version and after the HL3 news of last week I'm done giving that lardass kiekpig judenschwein Gaben my money. May that lard dripping, flatulent maggot Advisor swine choke to death on a subway sandwich.

My question is, will there be a GOG version? If yes, they get all my money. If no, pirating it is then.
>>
>>388861068
That's what I find frustrating, it's not like Dankovsky and Burakh are revisiting the town after saving it/blowing it up, this is the same game just updated and improved. The story's gonna be different they say, but the basic plot points will be the same: Artemy's father is still murdered, and inquisitor still arrives after a week, etc. etc. The 2 seems misleading.
>>
>>388859294
>I just hope they aren't pressured by Tinybuild into adding some unnecessary shit to appeal to normies or whatever.
That's my fear as well. The blog post says something like "adapting to new gamedev standards in the industry", but this is IPL we're talking about. They never gave a damn about the "proper" way to make games.

>>388861068
>Pathologic 2
Yeah, that seems really off to me. Not just because it's not supposed to be a sequel, but because that's really not the kind of behaviour I've come to expect from IPL. I guess we have this new publisher to thank for that.

>>388860960
Are you the real Vlad ?

Don't you mean the manpower ? The funding comes from kickstarter/their backer page. But I never heard of Tinybuild either.

Anyway, if work at IPL continues as usual, with Dibowsky having the last word in everything, George Lucas style, then everything is well. But if these Tinybuild people are trying to do their own thing...

I would play the original, but that may as well just be a general video game recommendation since the two games are going to be fairly different. The game is 60-80 hours to fully complete since you have to play through it 3 times from a different characters perspective each time to get the full story.
>>
Who's the Vlad and why do you lick this tripfag ass so much?
>>
>>388859789
I disagree. Compared to both the original Russian and the German localization, the English one is weak. They completely removed the poetic and rhyming aspect of the speech, the voices sound pretty disconnected and like the echo the other two versions have.
It's still an amazing game, but relatively speaking, the English translation loses a lot that both the original and the absolutely god-damn-fucking-mindblowing German version had.

>>388857984
>Was this game ever even relevant in a cultural or market sense?
Not nearly as much as it deserved to be. But it was mostly hurt by the absolutely attrocious original translation.
It was also an MASSIVE hit in Russia alone, and influenced quite a few eastern developers, though most of them did not make it.

>>388857738
Want to hear something even funnier?
You are 100% free not to believe me on this, by the way, because I was dumb enough to lose the proof, but in 2009, I actually wrote them an email asking if I can somehow purchase Pathologic from them, as it actually had no available distribution in my country (or on online distribution sites).

IPL answered me saying that they they are aware of the fuck-up causing the game to be unavailable, which was a publishers fault, and sadly can't really sell me a copy themselves, but that they "fully encourage me to obtain the game through any available means regardless of their conventional or legal status", and that if I enjoy it, I could perhaps consider buying The Void, which had proper distribution already.

So I had an email from the studio openly telling me "just pirate our damn game".
And like a complete moron, I did not screenshot or save it, so when my email provider crashed, I lost it.

>>388861521
People ask this every bloody time, and the answer is always the same:
WE DON'T KNOW. Nobody knows. There is no good answer. We don't know how good the remake is going to be. We don't know how different it's going to be. It's actually entirely possible - I would not put this past IPL - that they'll even pull a fucking Hideki Ano on us and the remake turns out to be a sequel ala Evangelion: Rebuild.
It's also impossible to judge how much will you get sick of the game. If you will be able to stand playing it twice.
It's just impossible to say, right now, if you should play the original, or wait for the remake.
Though the devs DID promise that the remake should be different from the original so much, that it should not feel too familiar even if you had played the original. So there is that. Provided that you trust the developer, of course.

I think they're just there to help out with...well, what IPL always has problems with. Artist types like them are great creators but their production skills are sorely lacking. Hopefully it'll actually help.

No you fucking morons, read the damn thread. The remake was simply re-named to Pathologic 2. It's still the same game though.

>>388862263
Yeah, they said late fall 2017 about a year ago, but we were pretty much suspecting something is off when no alpha came out during summer, suggesting they are going to (once again) miss the deadline.

>>388862173
A dude who once set up a project to translate Pathologic back when the original translation was completely busted. He used to appear here every now and then, let us know how the translation is coming, and his threads used to be pretty much the closest to regular IPL discussions we had here. He was generally cool, his intent to translate Pathologic was genuinely admirable, and he never used the trip outside of IPL threads (and I think some old /tg/ threads he used to regularly visit).

The story of his translation project was pretty interesting (and quite a bit tragic in the end), and since the IPL fan community here was small and tightly knit, we kinda learned to like him.

OK, I did remember something about WoD (I though it was on /tg/ though), but I never visited those threads. I just remember discussing particular terminology and possible translations, and talking through parts of the game that at the time us non-Ruskies could not get because fucking bothered translation.
I still insist that Ospina should have remained being Ospina, and Laska should have remained Laska. I will never get used to these two names getting changed. I do understand why, but FUCK IT, I'm a slav myself and those names sound better to me in the original.

While we have you here... how far were you with the translation project back then? By a rough estimate?

They promptly posted their own short update on Facebook, saying there is a lot to talk about, and that they'll gradually explain it all through an upcoming series of updates.

I think it's not hard to guess what happened though. The game was posed to be release in the next too or three months. I think it became clear as day that they need about another year, and simply don't have that cash to support it. So TinyBuild stepped in, provided financial support and production, while changing the marketing and public direction. We'll only see how the actual development direction will or won't be affected.

Not possible to count all the characters I've done since I wasn't working in .docx but just in notepad-like makeshift program that was made for me to crack the script wide open.

And some lines would go on for miles and miles of text, which was scrambled all over the place, i.e. I wasn't translating one dialogue at a time, there was just a phrase from one character and the next phrase belonged to another character altogether.

If I had to guess? 30-40%. But it got progressively harder to do it, since I had to recall each dialogue so that I could stay within the boundaries of context.

And yes, most of the names ingame should remain the same. Although I like my "Immortan Mike" I came up with.

TinyBuild are, as far as I can tell, an American Indie game developer and publisher that made the rather funny "No Time To Explain". Since then, they started offering publishing and production support to other Indie studios, publishing like 30 small titles, most of which are relatively unknown, but some of them might sound familiar:
SpeedRunners
Party Hard
ClusterTruck
and Guts and Glory.

They are also - I SHIT YOU NOT - publishing Yandere Simulator.
It seems to be bit of a game development upstarter company, providing financial back-up to all kinds of weird experimental games, with varying degrees of success.

I take that guess. So, it was quite a fuckton of work done, already.
I remember we actually discussed Mike's possible renaming once - maybe what, five years ago? and I came up with a bunch fairly sophisticated ideas that you all shot down and told me that the translation needs to be consistent and functional, otherwise it's going to a nightmare to manage. Retroactively, as I since worked on fiction translations a few time, I only then started to fully understood what exactly did you mean.

It's weird when people level the "walk sim" complaint at this game in particular. I mean - know where it comes from, you DO walk a lot.

But you also do a lot other things. Like selling razors to little children to get them to give you the drugs they collected.

FIXING THE DOORS, FIXING THE UI for inventory, OVERHAULING TRADE SCREEN.

Those were the three most readily evident. Some of them were already implemented. Though I can't say I was 100% happy with the change. Now items automatically pop from one container to another.
In the Marble Nest one, you always had to manually drag them.
Which was annoying. BUT it made moments of looting under stress much more tense. It made looting people feel like a non-trivial, risky business. I'd actually like to see the reconsider it once more.

The NPCs seem to react to the player better than they ever did, so that's a big plus for me. You know, they look at you as you approach, soldiers raise their guns, you can see them doing their own routines in the background and burning the maidens, etc. Cool.

Going along with this it also seems like they're moving away from the "shit happens instantly after the conversation ends and characters literally reappear in different spots" gameplay design.

The thing that I'm not sure about is talking to the plague, though. It worked okayish in the Marble Nest but if it's just going to be more of "booooo, I kill people and you can't fukin' stop me" then maybe the plague should've remained vague. It's scary as fuck in the original because you barely understand anything about it, at least for the majority of the game.

Alright guys, I work at PAX and I just met with a guy from tinybuild/IPL who was here to prepare the booth.
He's been able to confirm some new features and directions the game is taking. I've taken some notes for you :

>we've had lots of complaints about the walking speed, so there will be a sprint button.
>The Town size has been vastly increased since the original pathologic. To help you not getting lost, objective markers can be activated for each quest.
>by popular demand, you can now fast travel to any location on the map.
>this is not fully implemented yet, but there will be a crafting system. Weapons can also be enhanced with powerups you find in the steppe.
>shmowders are hard to come by. And what if you've used them on yourself, only to discover your followers are infected ? To give you the opportunity to gain more shmwoders, you can purchase ingame PLAGUEBOXES™.
>PLAGUEBOXES™ may also contain alternative skins for any playable characters and encountered NPCs.
>PLAGUEBOXES™ must be purchased with the ingame currency STEPPEBUX™, which is realidy available from the storefront.
>we believe that anyone should be able to enjoy our game, regardless of their skill. For this reason, we removed the "game over" situations. You will now be informed when you fail your objectives, but you'll still be able to finish the game.
>he wasn't able to give any details on future DLC, but he confirmed that the game will launch with a season pass.

So what do you think ?
>>
>>388868173
It'll be interesting to see how they handle the lucid dreaming as well. Maybe condensed versions of Marble Nest.
>>
>>388867335
Yeah. I do remember that for reasons that already elude me, I discovered there was a connection between Mark and the color Aramantine, which itself has certain symbolic implications that seemed fully fitting the character.

I can't for the love of god put together what made me think it was really a good idea.

But yeah. Been around, all this time, rarely missed you when you were up. I think I used to have your steam contact to summon you when there was a discussion at some point too. And was offering to as possible proof-reader/second opinion for free, if you were looking for something like that.

Damn, your translation project was a ray of light in that era, I was hopping maybe be useful in some way. What a hilariously naive idea.

It was actually several different statemetns made at different occassoins, in which they said with almost morbid glee that they are simplying some systems, becauase they make the players more comfortable before releasing some far more frustrating shit on them later on.

They said several times that they actually aim to make the game equally, or considerably more hard and frustrating.
They just look for ways to make the frustration less boring.

>So what do you think ?
I am confuse. You put ALMOST enough work into this to make it sound like a geuine satire, designed specifically to only trigger those who don't really know the game. That said, the plague-boxes, they are way too unsubtle and break the illusion.

Otherwise, good stuff. I don't know if were doing this intentionally or not, but:
>so there will be a sprint button.
This is 100% true, and has been confirmed by the devs from start as part of those things that "you'll think they make you life easier, but really they migh make things a lot worse in the end"

>The Town size has been vastly increased since
Also confirmed. Objective markers also were a thing, they appeared on the map routinely and you could even make your own.
>by popular demand, you can now fast travel to any location on the map.
ALSO something that Dibosky actually proposed as an option the player can use. However, it comes with some serious disadvantages to it.
>a crafting system. Weapons can also be enhanced
Both were also promised, though the power-ups were not presented as such.
So down to here, it's funny because it's only causing people who did not follow the porositions up till here to rage

The rest though, the PLAGUEBOXES are so hilariously off-tone and obviously made up that its here where you post becomes less of an inside joke, and more of an annoying shipost.

>>388869491
See I can see the ability to sprint being both useful and balanced given that the game has both exhaustion and sickness meters. Running makes you tired a lot faster and can possibly exacerbate the health drain from being infected, but if you NEED that extra speed boost to either run away from death or make it to a house on time it could be worth the penalty.

on the other hand that was clearly a bait post, anon.
>>
>>388868828
>Holy shit, I always knew it was the most casual game ever
It wasn't that casual. You had to A) finish the first quest of the day (otherwise you'd get a Day 1 mindnight game over wet dream. And B), you still had to stay alive for the entirety of the 12 days, whih was not exactly an easy task on it own. In fact, keeping low and avoiding quests meant you would be sorely lacking on supplies they occassionally provide you with.

Don't be so harsh with me. I wanted to keep it cheeky, but I was absolutely struck with terror at the idea that even a single one of my steppebros might take it seriously and get mad. I don't want to cause any of you that kind of pain, so I had to make it obvious bait. ;_;

They are releasing it no consoles, so they needed to find a way to reach a wider audience. This game is going to disappoint the diehard fans and normalfags will not bother with it because it's not something made by valve/blizzard/bioware/ea. Great job, slavshits. All you needed to do was simply satisfy your fanbase but you instead chose to kill yourselves.

Yeah, the stamina seems to be tied into more deiled resource management. Might increase hunger and exhaustion trates to go up, but also create conditions more favorable for the illness to spread in your body, and affect your combat option.

>on the other hand that was clearly a bait post, anon.
It was more than that. Outside of the plague loots which were totally over the top, the rest was really all collected from things the developers DID propose at some point of the development. We might even see some of them in the game.

I've been meaning to play Pathologic for a while, but I'm kind of a bitch with horror even if I can't stop being interested in it. I can deal with creepines, but jumpscares are just a pain to deal with.

How would you describe Pathologic in terms of jumpscare/atmosphere ratio?
>>
>>388870362
/v/ has a surprisingly short memory it seems. There's a great number of games that decreased in quality after they abandoned their original fanbase and went multiplat. The effect would be doubled for a cult classic that had only a small dedicated fanbase that could tolerate a game that was emotionally draining to play in the truest sense.

100% atmosphere. All horror comes from the oppresive feeling this game gives off, especially in confined spaces. It's the type of horror where what scares you is either plain to see or the knowledge of it being there.

On that matter, I really hope I won't have to go to another diseased house, that music still creeps me the fuck out.

Nobody know. Seriously, we can't give you a satisfying answer yet. We can't compare the two. The devs promised that Pathologic 2 will be so different from the original, that even Veterans of the original will feel it like a new game.
But those are only very old words of crazy, drunken Russian.

I'd say Polish or German over English, but it depends on how familiar you are with either.

>>388870228
Very distantly. But yeah, very, very thin common ground could have be found.
Pathologic is a lot more similar to works of authors like Franz Kafka, Jorge Borges, Ray Bradbury, Mikhail Bulgakov, Platonov,, I think. Those are the biggest sources of vibes that I ever got from it. Also mixed a bit more with the generally more fucked-up tone of Planescape Torment lurking behind.

House of the living

>>
>>388870656
>How would you describe Pathologic in terms of jumpscare/atmosphere ratio?
Minimum Jumpscares. I'd say even "zero", though I might have missed something.
It's really creepy on much more indirect and non-obvious levels though.

There is no "walking in the dark then suddenly loud noise and scream" stuff.
But there will be moments when you just walk to something kinda weird at the end of the hallway and the closer to and the better can you see, the more you'll start to worry that the game has not been playing fairly, and that this might have implications that would really, REALLY rather not have to live with.
It's a unique style of horror. As far as I'm concerned, much more powerful. And much easier on the heart.

Albino was easily the most terrifying thing in the game. It was that thing that kinda made me realize that there might be rules and systems I wasn't even aware.

Like around the time you meet him, you are pretty comfortably mastering the game. You get used to the pacing, to the extreme emphasis on dialogues, and on how the game treats it's supernatual very indirectly, usually only as something that is mundane in reality, and people just gave it seemingly magical attributes. Like the Polyhedron - which actaually DOES NOT defy gravity.

And then the little steppe cunt just appears to remind you that all confidence in knowing what the game can and cannot do. That terrified me more than anything else.

The Architects and the builders and even one of the Kains confirmed that the whole structure is kept up through a spiral that has it's bigger portion burried deep into the soil, and that just carries the weight of the scturure. You can't see it, because she runs through the stairays. Rest of the structure is just really very low.
So the trick was just using a strong enough material, and digging foundations to be deep enough.

Digging very, very deep into the soil under the city MIGHT not have been the brightest idea ever, in retrospect.

There is a small artificial island in the middle of the river. The stairway starts from there and spins around the whole building. That is the actual spiral that is holding the rest up.

>>388873085
>Isn't that just the sciencey-types' way of explaining what can't really be properly explained?
Well, that is a very valid interpretation, but it's one that exists along-side the more mysterious interpretation. The player generally chosing which one of them sounds more appropriate to him is part of the deal.
That said, it is important, because the plague was unearted when they were burrying the lower half of spiral

All of these things actually exist to invoke both magical, and rational explanations at the same time, and give the player the tension of being trapped between them.

The staircases are actually exactly the same ting :they are literally just scaled-down models of this structure. Their main purpose is to give the player a certain degree of material that should make him conclude that the polyhedron is mechanically sound.

And an upcoming remake.
Except now, the remake is named like a sequel.
Even though it's not a sequel at all.
Oh god why are they doing this to us
Anyway, you'll want to play the HD version : "Pathologic classic HD".

The point is to resolve as many of the individual mysteries the game provides you through that "think map" as you can before the daylight is gone. During the evening, the district will turn to shit, and (as many characters will have been repeatedly telling you by that point), you are supposed to meet with the Plague where it all started: that is, in your house. That is where you'll get a conclusion. That said, it can still result in one of I think four different endings from there on, based on what you did, or did not, and also on what you said.

can't happen, won't happen. game hates you too much. all the shit marketing in the world won't change the game itself, which is inherently hostile to the player.

mark my words
absolute worst that'll happen is some faggot LPer picks it up and gets like 3 videos in before giving up because there's too much talking.
it'll get a brief attention spike from a couple mainstream sites with the obligatory "this one's supposed to be a cult classic so maybe you should play it but iunno it's too long and ugly." a few hipster or less clickwhorish sites might drop favourable reviews after a while. most likely word of mouth and hopefully its own quality will cause a slow but steady drip of interest. maybe RPS will try to recreate the article series they had last time, but it won't fly in a time where instant gratification is even more prevalent than it was 10 years ago.

it'll be fine. really.
i hope.
>>
>>388876719
Pathologic seems way too slow to be twitch bait, there's a few creepy looking scenes and characters and aside from that people will have to play for hours to get to things that aren't talking and walking. Might as well just play a game that shoves bad jumpscares in front of you every 12 seconds to save yourself the time.

>I don't think it has a particularly BIG lasting appeal though, given the pace and the story and dialogue-heavy focus.
Yeah, especially since it doesn't have instant entertainment/scares like amnesia, spookies house of horror's, 5dof etc most people won't watch it.

i think nikolay did an interview before turgor/the void came out where he stated:

>We totally don't want to stand out with the help of some provoking, striking new solutions.
>We are not striving after the reputation of an innovative developer. We don't need it, and aren't interested in that.
>Err... Actually, we want to make, as ridiculous as it is, games that are modern, up-to-date.
>We believe that since a game developer claims it's art that he makes...
>... his duty is to look around... To look at the world he lives in.

it's been 10 years since then but i really doubt that anything ipl has made could attract that kind of demographic - that's never been their modus operandi, ever. i'm just going to hope to fucking god that tinybuild doesn't fuck this one up and that ice-pick gets their baby out safe and sound without the baby getting a bad case of jaundice or some shit

You'll get atmosphere and characters that will lie to you and manipulate you. There will be factions. There should be a good sense of place and detail. Pacing will probably be questionable as was in Bloodlines. It'll have some grim humour, some tongue in cheek humour. Both weren't afraid to be smart and comfortable with their themes and settings. A Malkavian, Ventrue or Tremere playthrough would compare quite well.

Thanks! Here's a quick translation:

In the meantime, news appeared on DTF, with the words of Dybowski.

TinyBuild is an interesting and strong partner. We have been looking at their successes since 2015, and in 2016 they were already striving to conclude an alliance with them. We like their ingenuity, energy and audacity: it is clear that they like to solve difficult tasks. And this is just our case, "Mor" is a difficult project to promote.

I am glad that now we can finally concentrate on development, and the promotion, with which we always had trouble, is to entrust to professionals. Pleases that they promise not to interfere in the content of the game and leave behind us the last word in creative questions. I hope both companies will benefit from this deal.

>There's no (and probably will never be) another game where life in all its aspects from the most sacred to the most mundane was presented in such stunning, clear, amazing simplicity. Where the sacred texts of the three rivalling churches are intertwined, where the protagonist's morning strarted with those horrible words: "Builds your roofs of dead woods. Builds your walls of dead stone. Builds your dreams of dead thoughts. Comes crying laughing singing of de Woodsie Lord..." Damn, it was fictional, wicked, disturbing church - but it's anthems sang of our world!
>And after that foreword, what do you think the protag did? - he simply went and stole things! That was his nature, that was his role. And the entire game spectacularly wasted away the greatness of that mission on the vanity of his task. And that final cutscene where show (the 'why can't we have that' kind, just like the one from Max Payne 1!) was falling, sticking all over the bronze statue frozen in doomed yearning upwards, where rats ate someone's stiff dead torso, where everything that happened turned out to be such a wonderful and trivial travesty. You won! - and yet, you're defeated, and it was not possible to feel what's going to happen in the end of your own life with more clarity...

Reminder to go play Thief if you somehow haven't yet.

Do you really have to play it on the highest difficulty to get the full experience?

I'm running some of these comments through google translate, there's some interesting insight to be had.

>Hmm, it seems like the truth, yes.
>In general, the change of the Russian name gives, forgive my French, Frank delirium. If the English Pathologic 2 is really more understandable to a foreign player who is new to any kind of marble nests and clasic acid versions, then the players in the CIS play the game just like Mor. Utopia. Not to mention the fact that when you drive into the search engine of the original name, you will find the game, and on the request of "Mor" you will be given the biography of the English writer, the book of Terry Pratchett and the encyclopedic definition of the epidemic.
>Honestly, it's surprising how impudently the publisher behaves. "Hey guys, hello, we'll publish your game here, blah-ball-blah, and yes, we do not like your name, we change it." To spit on the meanings implied in it, we need to make money, not your stupid theatricality To breed ".
>>
>>388882806
>Pleases that they promise not to interfere in the content of the game and leave behind us the last word in creative questions
All I wanted to hear. This is good. All shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.
>>
>>388883160
Yep. Not only does it necessitate actual sneaking (as opposed to just boping guards in the head) but also adds additional objectives to the mission which are fucking great.
>>

>To spit on the meanings implied in it, we need to make money, not your stupid theatricality To breed
>To breed
now I don't happen to know russian nor do I know what was originally said but I can bet with some degree of certainty that that last bit should be FUCK.
>>
>>388882806
i really hope that tinybuild handling all the stuff ipl's shit at will allow them to go ahead and just get the game out as soon as possible, on the other hand my stomach still feels a little heavy
>>
I'd expected that the russian fans would be less upset about the name change, since "Mor. Utopia" becomes just "Mor".
But it seems they have it even worse than us :

>The title is important, at least in that it sets the atmosphere of the game even before the player sees the gameplay / concept art / trailers, etc. Especially in the games of icepick. For example, the name Turgor, carries in itself the meanings associated with the plot, the gameplay, the lore and the atmosphere of the game. With Mor. Utopia the situation is similar, especially since the developers themselves have repeatedly noted that the game is not about the plague, but about people, about their behavior in such an emergency situation. Not to mention the fact that such a name sends to the Utopian faction, in their idea to break away from the earthly ideas that symbolize the city (by destroying it) and build a magical, inhuman (in a good sense) Utopia.
>And the name Moore is associated only with a game about the disease, the survival and running around the strange city full of weird people (We Happy Few, are you?) In the style of Amnesia, and not with the plot based on drama, theatricality, reasoning about the world order, free will, Moral dilemmas and a conflict of feelings of duty and humanity.

Wait I didn't know the REmake was cancelled. When was this announced? Oh well with the classic HD version the REmake would have been pointless anyways. Glad they are making a true sequel.

Marble Nest is the demo test thing they put out way earlier this year as a sort of 1-2 hour pre-alpha idea playground demo. Mor. Utopia is the direct translation of the original russian title, a play on Thomas More's Utopia (look it up) and the word in russian for pestilence/plague.
>>
>>388884274
Marble Nest is a short promo thing IPL put out a while ago, and "Mor. Utopia" was the original Russian name of the 2005 Pathologic.
>>
>>388884274
The Marble Nest is the name of the demo that was first given to backers, and then made available on the steam page.
The game Pathologic was first released in russia as Mop. Утoпия, pronounced Mor. Utopia, meaning "Pestilence. Utopia".

>Yes, they will be engaged in marketing "Mor", and we are happy about it - we ourselves are not masters in this matter. But in any case, do not forget that marketing is such a thing that exists for the Great Outer World. We do not always understand it ourselves, that's why we need an expert on the Great Outer World. We believe him.
>But you are not the Great Outside World. You are our little neighbor. And we will not get away from you anywhere. do not worry. :)

I don't know if stuff was lost/added in translation, but that's heartwarming.

How different is this from say Resident Evil or Silent Hill? I want to try a new horror game.
>>
I unfortunately faded from the game because I got busy, and now I'm hesitant jumping back into it where I'm at because I don't think I remember a lot. And restarting from the beginning would suck because I actually put a bit of hours into it.
>>
>>388884859
It does tread a fine line as well. Sometimes less flowery language and more clear communication would be more helpful.
>>
>>388885197
Leans more towards Silent Hill. It is its own thing though. It's about atmosphere and mind fucks but as to be expected - in a Russian style.
>>
>>388885197
Considerably. It's not even particularly horror, it's closest to SH2 in terms of oppressive atmosphere and general feeling of even the normal-looking human characters being somehow "off", but it's not particularly scary. Creepy, sure, gets under your skin, definitely, but don't go in expecting to be spooked.

There's also a lot of talking. And walking. And dumpster diving. But it's really fucking good if you can get into it. If you can't, that's also understandable, it's dated as hell and it's genuinely and deliberately uncomfortable to play.

>>388885215
Do the first day or two of Haruspex instead? Same town, same events, different perspective and story threads. You may remember some things but you'll get enough new bits to not be retreading old ground.

It's more like a VN with survival mechanics than an action game.

Open-world, less combat, shittons of dialogue, the whole game's on a timer more or less which causes a lot of pressure, more emphasis on survival.

JUST. But I don't really play games anymore and this potato I have is mainly for school work.
