The villain didn't want or care about the world of ruin. He had only two goals: To make the Lucis family pay, and to get himself killed. He achieved both in spectacular fashion.

I unironically loved this game, timeskip included. Don't really understand the hate for it. It was my first Final Fantasy though, so maybe that's why.

A lot of important story content was removed from the main game and fragmented into different forms of media that make up what Square Enix calls the 'Final Fantasy XV Universe'; a feature-length movie (Kingsglaive), an anime series (Brotherhood), a novel (Parting Ways), a separate side-scroller game (A King's Tale), story DLC (Episode Gladiolus, Episode Prompto, Episode Ignis) etc. You have to catch up on all of these to get a comprehensible understanding of the story.

You loved it because you don't know any better. Like a young child playing the mobile Mario game and loving it because they've never played a real Mario game. It's not that FFXV is outright bad, it's that it didn't even come close to meeting expectations for the series, which mind you were already lower than in the past thanks to FF13 being bad.
