it depends on what you look for in a game. to me, FO4 is by far the worst game Bethesda has put out in either Elder Scrolls or Fallout universes. If you like the FPS and settlement building aspects and like to horde equipment and upgrade stuff, then yeah FO4 is pretty cool.

I think they missed out big time on just exploring and finding oddities and side quests to do. granted all Beth games are barely playable without mods, but FO4 just seems like it's missing alot of what I liked about previous games. once you kind of explore the map, that's it. almost all side quests and interesting places and quirky characters were replaced with settlement spots. There should have been 3 settlements at most.

I remember being 13 years old, I went to one of those places with my friends where you can pay money to use their LAN connected computers loaded with a bunch of games, after a while of playing Left for Dead we were taking a break and I decided to check out this interesting looking game called Fallout 3, I went through the beginning thinking it was kinda mediocre and then I got outside the vault for the first time, I looked around at the endless expanse stretching out in front of me, the endless possibilities that awaited and I thought to myself "Looks like someone took a shit on Cyrodiil"

After successfully dumbing down Skyrim they figured they could do the same to Fallout 4 and get the same results when in reality fallout fans wanted NV but with a fresh coat of paint. The massive casualbase of the Bethesda still bought the game of course but if I remember correctly reception to the title wasn't as bombastic as Skyrim and FO3.

This isn't really true they just kept retconning the story. In the first movie things are still semi normal outside of some bad areas. In Road Warrior the world has run out of oil and things went to shit. In Beyond Thunderdome they came up with the nuke thing.
