As someone who has spent extensive time with all three games

In terms of actual FUN (to play by yourself, with friends, etc.)

HOTS>DotA>LOL

In terms of strategy, competitive scene and 'career opportunities',

DotA>HOTS>LOL

HOTS is basically everything 'fun' about DotA, with the deeper strategy elements cut away in favor of streamlined, fightan-focused gameplay.

DotA is still the only one worth watching competitively tho
