What does /v/ think of Doom 3?

Great lighting the game. One of the first games with dynamic lightning and holy shit tech was glorious in Doom 3. Pretty mediocre gameplay though.

Awesome game, cool aesthetic, amazing plasma rifle.

The only reason people don't like it is because it is different from Doom 1 and 2.

Fucking awful, gunplay is bland, level design is lineal and uninspired, story is sci.fi generic shit, probably the most boring shooter i've ever played, just a poormans half life 2.

At times, it felt like it didn't wanted to be a horror game, because it knew it had "DOOM" in its name.

Very different from the originals, but it's an amazing game. My favorite, in fact.

The original is better than BFG. BFG has way too much fucking ammo, and the flashlight was an integral part of the original game. The purpose was to FORCE the player to always make a trade-off between having illumination or protection, and I liked it!

Yeah I really don't get the hype with D44m. It's not bad, but the FPS bar is so low these days that that's not saying much. I thought it was just... boring. And don't get me started on glory kills.

Doom 3 has a special place in my heart.
I played it when I was a kid and loved it.
It was scary action packed and was so much fun to play.
It was my introduction to DOOM and I've loved the series ever since.
I stand by this fact their has never ever been a bad Doom game.

Genuinely one of the most underrated games of all time. Well balanced atmosphere building on top of solid gameplay. People who bash the gameplay probably think the shotgun was useless or something and went through most of it by backtracking and cover peek-a-booing.

It's what the boys at Id were initially having in mind when designing Doom. In a way, I like to think 3 and 2016 as two separated essences that made the original Doom what it is.

It's bad. Played for the first time the other month as a big fan of the series, and I knew going in to expect something different. But it fails at being a good shooter as much as it fails at being survival horror. It's really damn dull.

Looks fantastic though and I like what it did for the lore and aesthetic. I'm glad DOOM 4 was able to take the foundation laid out by 3 and make a good game out of it.

I don't know why I played the shit out of it back then, I guess for the graphics.
Anyway it's the worst doom and the game that saw valve replacing id as the savior of pc.
It's not bad but today every time I want to replay it I remember after few minutes that it's boring.

Thank you. Jesus, I'm always hesitant to say that because I know /v/ will rip and tear me a new one. It got to the point where i thought I was the crazy one and played Doom 1 and 2 wrong all these years. Which I admit I did do with Blood since i never learned how to effectively use dynamite.

Better than nu-doom. Bethesda marketed nu-doom well. It wasn't nearly as good as people made it out to be. It wasn't anything like old school Doom either. Oh what because it is fast pace suddenly it was just like old Doom XD?

Fuck out of here with that shit. At least Doom 3 didn't have a disgusting marketing campaign behind it. Doom 3 just lacked a little polish and a better vision is all. The concept of it is great. Still ended up being a good game.

Because Doom 3 didn't pretend to be old school Doom. It attempted to be original. NU-DOOM pretended to be old school Doom when it wasn't even close besides having fast gameplay. That is stupid though because plenty of shooters had fast gameplay. Even many military FPS in recent years are fast paced.

So on top of the disgusting marketing that Bethesda shoved down the casual retards throats about how it is so hardcore and old school for real pros the end product wasn't anything like that. RPG-light mechanics in a Doom game? The game is fucking shit.

This. I'm big into old school survival horror shit so I loved that aspect of the game. I suppose can understand why other players might find it boring if they were more into the run and gun, blood and guts style of the original Doom though.
