I played the beta. I'm glad I played the beta. I'm glad I dodged a bullet here.

I find the setting and lore of this game very interesting, and the graphics are absolutely gorgeous, but the gameplay leaves much to be desired (especially PvP). The cooldowns are much too long, and that reduces the gameplay to just boring shooting, when you could be flying andtossing space magic around. A shame. I'll probably buy it and play just to see the beautiful enviroments, but after the beta my first impression is: wasted potential

Yes, Destiny is a good game. Did it lack single-player content on release? Sure. But the raids, strikes, and PvP all made up for it. The prologue is bad because they try to make losing the city an emotional moment - but you had no reason to care about it, you never saw any of it beyond the tower. You've lost something you never had. That's weak storytelling.

You're not making an argument - you cannot deny that the player had no emotional connection to the city. You hung out in the Tower. You never walked on its streets or talked to the average citizen.

In Destiny 1, the main game was always lacking, but the raids made up for it by being mechanically complex, challenging, varied adventures that you could only beat with a competent team that knows how to work together and divide tasks.

If you can put up with a middling path through the story, In my opinion the raids have always been worth the price of admission.

Playing pvp gives you gear. Can't speak for D2 because no one knows yet but for D1 some of the best weapons in the game (matador, various IB pulse rifles, that really fast firing auto from trials) for using in pvp only came from pvp.

Gear actually doesn't matter in PvP like it does in PvE.

In regular PvP, your level and gear numbers are normalized to match everyone else, and the weapons all generally hit the same as every other one in their class. Your perks still change stuff, but only as far as your playstyle goes, not your ability to cause damage.

But there was a special event that would show up every few weeks in D1 called Iron Banner, where your level and gear numbers mattered and you did more damage than people that had worse stuff.

Since you never got a true or straight answer. No, you will not have to raid or strike to play endgame pvp. If all you want to do is play endgame pvp you will get gear from doing just that. During special pvp events you also get access to better pvp gear that drops or is available during normal pvp. The stuff you will get from raids or strikes is neat and all, and in some cases (Thorn) will give you a bit of an edge if you do both pvp and raid, but overall you don't ever have to touch a raid if pvp is all you are after. As far as maps and modes and shit.... This is all based on memory so it might be off... 4 pvp special events. 30ish total maps. 14ish different game types (Some copies of others with misc modifiers). I had one character that was PVE gear sets, and one character taht was PVP gear sets. Both were pretty much equal playing field.

Yes, it's totally possible to hang onto guns from previous expansions as long as you keep infusing them.

Guns in vanilla didn't have the infuse mechanic, since it hadn't been introduced yet, so you couldn't hold onto them, but it's a mechanic from the start in D2, so there's no reason to assume you can't keep your favorite legendaries and exotics throughout the whole game and the expansions.

But every expansion tends to come out with some pretty rad guns, so it's smart to try the other stuff too.

Well no shit, the beta doesn't really have anything PvE wise outside of the intro mission and a single strike, not exactly enough content to impress people who spent god knows how many hours in Destiny 1. But for PC players that have never touched it before they're experiencing the shooting mechanics, classes, loot system, etc. for the first time so of course they're going to be more interested than someone who is scouring for new things.

I played D1 religiously on PS4, had a sudden falling out with it before Rise of Iron, and never played again. I played the demo for the PC version, and have been keeping up with what's new and different in the sequel and I'm excited for that.

I'm mostly interested in raiding again, and Luke Smith is in charge of the vanilla raid. He did my favorite ones in D1, so I have no reason not be excited for this one.

I don't get it, the movement feels slow and sluggish, gunplay is just your standard generic fps but with basic actions tied to extremely long cooldowns and the enemies are as basic and boring to fight as they can get. Don't even get me started on how lazy and uninteresting that boss was.
Even with finding cool loot this couldn't be all that much more fun, I got an exotic pistol that had explosive shots but it felt exactly the same as the other pistols but with an extremely tiny aoe on hit, so why do people play this?

I'm running this game on a shitheap toaster (I refuse to tell you the specs out of embarrassment) and I'm averaging ~55 fps. Lowest I get is around 45 when fuck tons of shit is going on at once. I'm actually amazed at how well it runs.

I expect the zones to start taxing it pretty heavily though. We'll see.

Because the strike entrance is in the patrol map, so patrol stuff is going on around the entrance. Also you can drive them around to the other open parts of the map. You don't have to follow the path to the strike.

there are 2 matchmaking choices now: "Quickplay" and "Competitive"
"Quickplay" will be filled to the brim with K/D farming stacks because the score to finish is increased, Mercy Rulings activate later and the matchmaking allows stacks to match solos
so it's even more difficult to get what you want unless you're a PvPfags that likes competitive 24/7 or a masochist that like getting farmed

I DO give a shit about what happens to PvP because bungie are still using the same old engine that ties shit together across modes so whatever changes in PvP also changes in PvE, if you read my shit

What... What did you expect? We all know these shooter betas are more of a small demo/marketing move and only used as a "beta" to fix bugs and test stability.
I mean, SURELY you are aware that's not the full content of the game, that it'll have many more story missions, many more strikes and many more PvP maps, as well as the 4 "open-worlds", so why are you complaining about the small beta when you KNOW the game will have a lot more to offer? half-lie, you can customize your grenade, super, jump and ability. In the full game you can costumize your sub-class tree and unlock a 3rd sub-class for each of the classes. As well as making your own character instead of getting a random race/sex. Once again it seems like you're judging the final game based on a beta that you KNOW is limited.
