With 3 and 4 I immediately started a ng+ after I beat them

Only other Persona I played was 4 and I fucking HATED that cast and liked the P5 cast. P5 characters are a lot less horrendously one-note and cartoonish, the only character with any complexity in 4 was Kanji.

Ryuji and Yusuke are both good characters and Makoto works as a standard nerd gf. Ann was a disappointment, I expected her to be way more ditzy and not the ordinary "muh friends" anime heroine. Joker is one of the best JRPG protags simply because he doesn't look like a fucking faggot.

I didn't care for Ann, Makoto, or that faggot cat, but I like the rest of them, even Joker. Haru was introduced a little too late so her character couldn't go very far, but she was nice in the time that she was there. All the side characters had good s-links as well.
Very much prefer 5's characters to 4's.

I tend to agree. I feel like we've just gone through the motions one too many times and a lot of characters come off as riffs on stereotypes already covered by three and four.

Yusuke and Futaba are the only ones that stand out, but they're also generally one-note characters.

Sojiro is really well-written in general. He radiated much more of a mentor/fatherly aura than Dojima ever did. Like they realized putting your father figure in direct opposition to you in the main story wasn't a good idea.

I think having most of the characters not immediately want to befriend/suck the dick of the MC gave them slightly more depth, and made their later acknowledgements of the MC more meaningful. P4 was constantly "omg senpai yur so awesome", and it felt meaningless about halfway through the game.

I liked them better than Persona 4's cast, they actually felt like a bunch of friends instead of bunch of people who cannot stand each other and are only around when Yu is in the group.
