It requires proper timing SBK91, and you don't do it by holding, you do it by tapping, moving L stick has nothing to do with manual finishers which is done by tapping.

As you can see here where I do an opening hit which does 1000 damage then the manual finisher which does 1400 damage, then another opening hit which does 1000 damage then the manual finisher again doing 1400 damage, then one of the directional doing 1100 damage
