So far the only boss I'd consider a grind was Shimano early on. Turned Hard off, it just makes boss fights drag on for way too long I think.

I got this. To get Dragon's Speed Reborn, you have to beat Majima 3 or 4 times in Pocket Circuit. I assume you have to bear Majima multiple times in card game to get the other one.

Got up to the second strength upgrade before fighting Majima at the batting cages and still got beat twice. I don't know if Kiwami is harder than 0 or the bosses are just tankier. Only enemies I lost to in 0 were the various Mr. Shakedowns.

I don't understand this games combat. Feels like the sidestep doesn't work and the boss just breaks me guard. Then I don't know how to knock him down because he would just tech my throw. Like all of his attacks had armor and he would knock me downand stomp on me. I tried waiting for his attacks to just whiff punish but he'd never swing. How do you play this game? On funeral segment.

The Majima radar is funky. Sometimes it indicates he's out in the open, sometimes it indicates he's hiding in an object (giant traffic cone, car, etc), sometimes an event will trigger where someone fights you and he joins in.
It might also indicate that you're near a minigame venue like bowling or darts or even the hostess club where Majima will play against you.
