Yeah, it's kind of weird how much of the game's obstacles I was able to blow through out of sheer extinct from playing the other games. I've seen people having trouble on stuff like the purple orbs in Titanic Monarch but people like me are all like "I know what this is, it's from Sonic 3".

If you understood how the game works, if they HADN'T gone through the floor, then the capsule should've squashed them and killed them regardless. Like if you are tails or knuckles you can prolong the amount of time you have control while the end of act is happening using flight/glide.
You can even kill yourself in Press Garden Act 1 by just flying to the right.
The connected acts don't always have an invincible wall to prevent you from going to the next act before it begins. However, the camera is locked to the signpost and when you touch the ground, the character will automatically run back to the signpost and pose.
The special thing about Press Garden Act 1 is that there are spikes near the start of Act 2, and when you beat an Act, your rings are set to 0. Another neat thing is that when you die inbetween acts, when the level restarts, Zone Act intro doesn't play, I think this is because the game doesn't actually know which Act you are in. You will be restarted to the signpost, since that works like a checkpoint. But the game will crash after 10 or so seconds of doing this glitch.

Yeah its "User Error" but the game shouldn't allow for it either, they should have looked for edge cases harder, its completely the games fault for allowing a situation like that to be possible.
A lot of the times you wouldn't even have to change collision detection or anything else gross, you just need to create a situation where the player can no longer create that situation.

It's like Super Mario Bros to Super Mario Bros 2 (JP), there is that glitch you can do to get to minus world by exploiting a changing collision box size of mario and essentially softlock the game due to bricks being placed over that pipe in 1-2.
In SMB2, they just stopped placing bricks there as a way to fix it.

The issue with this stage specifically is that the terrain goes high up, it isn't just a flat ground at the bottom of the screen like the rest of the stages. The container is programmed so that it cannot go low enough to crush you through the floor based on the assumed bottom-of-screen ground, but it doesn't account for the ground being higher than that
