the third game was utter trash. another good IP killed off. first game was great and i really enjoyed the second one.
>>
>>388798549
Have you never seen the "meanwhile on the ishimura" threads?
>>
Proper setup is

Line Gun - Force Gun - Pulse Rifle

Plasma Cutter is a decent weapon, but does almost nothing better than other weapons, so is only useful if you're not carrying around many weapons. Not worth it IMO.

What do you mean killed off? I loved the second game myself, I thought it was great an a lot of fun with lots of satisfying moments. Honestly and without mememing, I also found that eye scene to be so satisfying, there was something nice about how it went in and came out so smoothly that I really enjoyed.

No, never... What are they about?

I played 3. It was an action shitfest. I played coop with a friend and it was fun but also quite awful. The gun making/combining whatever mechanic was so boring and slow and too annoying to maintain.

You are either unlucky or new, /v/ has plenty of dead space threads even though the 3rd installment was shit and the other two games are old. They're usually some of the best threads on this board, too.

Martyr surprised me because it was actually competent. The writing wasn't amazing, but it was good enough, and the content of what it went through was decent. I'd agree that Downfall was great but the second movie was shit.

>>388801574
Well, according to Martyr, there was a deep-sea expedition that unearthed a Marker, and zomboners started washing up on the shore. Eventually a religion started being made out of it, in a way. Altman was one of the people who was close to the Marker when it was first discovered under the ocean, but he actually wanted to put a stop to what it was doing and all his coworkers start going completely insane in time with the Marker pulsing. There's a necromorph outbreak and all that, of course. The way Martyr ends is Altman being killed by the people who want to set up their religion under his name. He literally becomes a martyr against his will. They throw him in a room with a necromorph and a plastic spoon for defense.

The lore of the series is essentially that the Markers were not man-made and existed for a long time. The religion is just made in order to harness them, but the people actually trying to harness them are insane motherfucks.

I loved Dead Space when it came out. Great atmosphere, fun gameplay. Story was a bit cliche but who cares, the game freaked me out. Dead Space 2 was more of the same. >>
>>388802527
Yeah, they tried to stop it. Essentially its the Dead Space theory. The markers are this unstoppable force in the universe and they consume planets of advanced civilizations. This is a theory as to why we haven't had contact from alien yet.
>>
>>388798824
first game is the spookiest of them with the best atmosphere, but it has the most clunky gameplay of the series

second one goes a bit more action oriented while still having quite a lot of spooky parts, combat is more fluid than in the first game

third game is even more action oriented with rolling and crouching added to combat, human enemies, barely any spooky moments
some weapon combinations felt broken as fuck, and you need to play co-op if you want to do all the side missions

imo, 2>1>3, but thats because im pussy and really dont enjoy horror that much, but i can easily see why horror fan would think that 1>2>3

Basically the marker's signal drives dumb people to insanity (random people you find as Isaac) and smart people (like Isaac himself) into seeing blueprints for building Markers. Necromorphs originate after an infector is spawned when a Marker is activated. The role of the necromorphs is to infect all bio matter on the planet and spread themselves via that sludgy squishy bio mass that forms when Necromorphs have heavily infested an area. The ultimate goal is to turn the entire planet into one giant necromorph using all the combined infected bio matter on the planet. (this is convergence, that moment when the Marker pulls all the necromorphs into the atmosphere to attempt to create a brother moon) So in the end you get a necromorph brother moon. The markers that civilizations all around the universe found and tried to use as a source of power, or tried to replicate it were all fooled into activating them and instead spawning insanity and the necromorph scourge. The Aliens in the planet found in Dead Space 3 managed to find a way to halt the process of convergence by freezing. Taking their civilization with down in the process. The markers in reality are bait to get humans to partake in what is basically a reproductive process for massive forms of life. The reproductive process of the brother moons. They are basically just giant space animals that constantly keep consuming life wherever it is found and using it to keep their species alive, through an insanely convoluted and horrifyingly grotesque reproductive process. Made of nothing but dead matter, claiming all forms of life around the universe. It truly is nothing but dead space. There is nothing out there but death. That is the theme I assume the game was trying to hammer home, going by the audio logs from that doctor in DS3 that was ecstatic at first to find alien life and then near the end of the game his tone changes when you listen to the audio log, he has a tinge of regret for discovering the truth

It's never explained who made them, but it's heavily hinted that the Brother Moons are a "race" of things that reproduce by devouring entire planets.

They do this by launching Markers into space at planets capable of supporting life. It's heavily implied that once a marker lands on such a planet, it steers evolution to create a sentient race. Said sentient race sees the marker, and generally tries to copy it, as the marker is capable of generating an endless amount of energy without external fuel (It's later found out that it does this by catching signals from other Markers across the galaxy and somehow turning them into electrical radiation.) This same radiation, however, is also the wavelength that animates tissue and drives people insane.

Unitology is a group that largely knows the truth about markers, but misinterprets them to be a godsend, thinking that the markers will fuse humanity into an ascended being and we will all live in paradise. The reality is that a convergence event just births a Brother Moon.
>>
>>388804184
>>Basically the marker's signal drives dumb people to insanity (random people you find as Isaac) and smart people (like Isaac himself) into seeing blueprints for building Markers
When was this established? Seems ridiculous that everyone was affected save very few and Isaac doesn't seem so smart.

As for the rest, holy shit that sounds insane, it sounds better than I thought, reminds me of Evangelion and also those creatures from Warhammer 40k. Thank you so much for this explanation. It made me appreciate the games even more now retroactively.
>>
>>388806436
it was established in Martyr (the book) and Aftermath (the movie), and I think it's also mentioned in at least one game
>>
>>388805246
Holy shit so basically markers land on a planet and create a self fulfilling prophecy by ensuring that the life there evolves into a being that wants to harness the power and thereby activating them and then consequently being consumed? Jesus.

>>388806534
Ok I guess I have to watch those movies and maybe read Martyr.
>>
>>388806634
aftermath is one movie

the other movie that came before it, Downfall, is the events that led up to Isaac arriving on the Ishimura, while Aftermath is a bridge between Dead Space 1 and 2 (it's also not as good and was animated in 4 different styles)
>>
>>388806634
>Holy shit so basically markers land on a planet and create a self fulfilling prophecy by ensuring that the life there evolves into a being that wants to harness the power and thereby activating them and then consequently being consumed?
It's not said outright, but it's the conclusion that Dr. Serrano comes to in Dead Space 3. He also explains that despite mankind having FTL travel, they have never once happened upon, or even found evidence of, aliens due to the Brother Moons leaving a massive trail of "Dead Space" in their wake. Every sentient species that has existed on our side of the Milky Way has already been devoured and used as biomass.
>>
>>388804184
Wait, you actually played through DE3?

That's insane. You absolute madman.
>>
>>388799870
the galaxy is a dead space because the necromorph have exterminated every alien civilization. Humans are "lucky" because the black marker was inactive
>>
>>388804184
that's right
the galaxy are fucked
>>
>>388807957
But are we fucked?
>>
>>388808343
Earth is definitely fucked if we go by the DLC ending.
>>
>>388798549
The third game had potential with its gun work bench which I really liked but the truth is; is that no one really gave a shit and the ending was pretty bad.
>>
>>388808641
d-dlc ending?
>>
>>388807194
That's... actually horrifying, and i'm shocked that DS3 didn't capitalized in this kind of cosmic horror as marketing or something

I installed it again today and I never realized how shitty the keyboard controls were, god damn

Dead Space 3 was, while inferior to its predecessors, still an alright game on its own and didn't deserve all the backlash it received

Thanks for killing the franchise for irrationally hating on it guys.
>>
>no one talks about it anymore
It's like a fucking 10 year old game and we still have pretty frequent threads about it on /v/, that's pretty good
>>
>>388809178
I didn't hate on it. I was just unwilling to buy anything else from EA. I've stayed true to that since 2012, without any regrets.

Biggest nope I have ever had in a vidya game.
Stared at the screen for 2 minutes saying fuck this shit, I don't think I can do this.

John Carpenter hasn't made good movies in a very long time. Which is a genuine shame.
>>
>>388798292
What happened was EA bought the publishing rights

Same "thing" that plagued Dead Space 2 & 3 was same thing that killed Mass Effect 2 & 3

And still reason I won't buy any EA products to this day
>>
>>388809294
My friend says that too, there's no point tho
>>
>>388811642
Mass effect 2 was incredible imo
>>
>>388811725
The point is that none of my labor goes towards directly supporting EA. It's not like they've been releasing good games, anyways.

>game is bad because there is not a thread about it up right now on the videogame board of 4chan

Anyone that perpetuates this bullshit idea should be gassed.
>>
I remember 3 briefly having a somewhat open ship graveyard segment towards the beginning, complete with space walks
That stuff should have been the whole game
>>
>>388799423
Yes, Dark Souls 2 is the best Souls game, but i think this thread is about Dead Space, stay on topic.

CONS
>Less tertiary info to further deepen lore that first game establishes, and only new info is in Shadow Broker dlc
>No attempt at improving other world exploration, but we all loved the scanning feature, right?
>Blended Classes, because Soldiers needed space magic missile, and Time Magic!
>Even after expanding courtship to Garrus and Tali denies femshep access to Grunts sweet ass
>Changes combat from weapons with a multitude of modifications that were interchangeable on the fly with effectively infinite ammo balanced by a 'Safety' feature cooldown period to generic cover based shooter with virtually no customisability and dependence on disposable heat sinks as "Ammo"
>Trade in Space Racist Ashley and My Head Maiden for the things called Miranda. And Jacob... And Jack
>If romamcing Liara takes her and gives "Sorry your blue waifu is in another DLC!" Mesaage
PROS
>Refined the Cover Mechanics
>Mordin
>Miranda's Ass Effect
>Aria T'cloak
>Watching your psychiatrist get turned into a meat slushie
>More Krogan Bros
>Tali romance option

tfw I never bothered to play the 3rd game so the story ended with Dead Space 2 for me.

Thank fuck I didn't bother playing 3. I even got it for free during that EA humble bundle ages ago but didn't bother installing.

It was the first half of the game.
>>
>>388814953
I have played 1 in 2010 and 2 this year, but fuck me I'm never going to play 3 because even 2 was way to much on the action side.
