You wouldn't blame the gun for shooting someone, you blame the person holding it. It's not Gordon's fault.

I dont think youd accept it even if gaben put it in writing and shoved it up your ass
>>
>>388800365
But it is the end of it as we know.
Like you said, if there is ever a new half life, it will likely be a new writer, on a new story. Perhaps even a new protagonist.

At that point, it will only be Half Life in name. Half Life, as we know, as we grew up with, is as good as dead except for fan-made games, which are always either really good or really bad. And that is when they manage to jump the corporate hoops and don't get hit with a cease and desist.
>>
>>388800347
Technically Half Life was only about 2 weeks of Gordon's life.

>"The border world, Xen, is in our control now, for the time being, thanks to you"
>He says this right in front of a dead soldier and destroyed military vehicles in Xen of all places, despite the military never going there
>Reactivates the military's nuke in Opposing Force after Shepard deactivates it
>Calls Black Mesa an embarrassment, possibly because of the numerous casualties taken and the failure of one of the governments biggest technological suppliers
>Aperture used to be one of the governments biggest suppliers until they turned their heads to Black Mesa
>Doesn't trust Shepard not to spill the beans on what happened at Black Mesa, just like the government
>"And all the effort in the world would have gone to waste, until..."
>AKA, the combine are getting close to discovering the secret shadow government hiding just under their noses
The governments of the world purposely threw the 7 hour war and have been acting in secret throughout Half Life 2. They are more powerful then they let on and this is why Earth has developed technology even the combine do not have yet. They operate in secret and after the combine got a whiff of them, they lured them to Earth to feign their own deaths. Gordon arrives back on Earth after the US has gained enough power to remote detonate dyson spheres or some shit and is about to seize galactic power from the hands of the combine.

Does he? I thought he's set the same as friendly NPCs, you can't damage him.
In HL1 though, you can see the bullets literally ricochet off of him.

So instead of playing a shitty space section that feels completely disconnected from the rest of the game we will get to play a new shitty space section that feels completely disconnected from the rest of the game and was made by a bunch of guys who've only ported a game until now and have no experience in actually making a game from scratch?
I honestly would've preferred regular old Xen with new graphics and some cut parts. Every second spend on Xen is already too much.

>Final bit where Gman pops up and whisks Alyx away leaving you alone on the Borealis primed for destruction

"Heyy, mind if I show myself in? Of corse you don't! Sorry to interrupt, Champ- great job by the way, I couldn't have done a better job killing those Combine jerks myself! Pew pew pew! *finger gun gesture*
Well, actually, who am I kidding: I totally could've, but hey, no need for bragging at a time like this, am I right?
Sooooo yeah, if you'll excuse me a teensy weensy sec now, I just have to have a quick word with my pal Alyx here, so you just sit right there and we'll get right to it, mmmmmmkay?
I mean, you are trapped in my personal spacetime bubble, so it's not like you could move even if you wanted to, but! The G in Gman does stand for "Gentle" (among other, incredibly sexy and accurate things starting with G, if you smell my drift) so hey , what the hell, you've earned a little courtesy, you know? Yeah no need to thank me, I know I'm a charmer.
NOW! Sweet little ol' Alyx, yes indeed! How's about you and me ditch this cruiser -admittedly very cozy, look at this interior! Is that a leather Captain's seat? Man, those folks at Aperture sure know their decorating, but let's get back on track- and have a skip and a jump in spacetime, hmm?? No blowing up into subatomic particles horribly warped throughout unspeakable spacetime distortions for you, young lady!
Oh, sorry Gordy Boy, I suppose I shouldn't have said that out loud.
Well, I guess the cat is out of the bag now, my bad! Sorry for the poor form old sport, but it's just the way things go, you know? Sometimes you get to be the one who gets to skedaddle right in time, sometimes you get to, well, be erased from the fabric of the universe.
Mondays, am I right?!
Well, ta-ta then, no hard feelings eh? Do enjoy the view while you are out there though, you are in for quite the treat. The sight of a lifetime!
Literally. It'll be the last thing you'll ever see.
I'll show myself out.

They made sure it didn't before experimenting. A new weapon won't do much good if it killed yourself and the entire planet in the process.

>Edward [Teller] brought up the notorious question of igniting the atmosphere. Bethe went off in his usual way, put in the numbers, and showed that it couldn't happen. It was a question that had to be answered, but it never was anything, it was a question only for a few hours. Oppy made the big mistake of mentioning it on the telephone in a conversation with Arthur Compton. Compton didn't have enough sense to shut up about it. It somehow got into a document that went to Washington. So every once in a while after that, someone happened to notice it, and then back down the ladder came the question, and the thing never was laid to rest.
