Hey my house got destroyed by hurricane Harvey and I'm stuck with a crappy i3 laptop with Intel integrated graphics for a while, and im looking for a game to play. I don't have a lot of money (considering most of everything I own just got destroyed) but I'm willing to buy a game if it looks intriguing enough.

- needs bad graphics. Ps2 or earlier. In perfectly okay with pixel shit or anything else.

- im okay with emulating but I hate using mouse and keyboard for emulated games and don't have a controller. If it was a slower turn based or similar game I would be okay with it

- something that I can get up and walk away from, so either the ability to pause or turn based.

Not trying to bait or anything but do you americans have no form of insurance? I am always confused when I see americans crying their eyes out about how all of what they've owned got destroyed in some weird twister tornado and how they are going to have to live on the street for the rest of their life.

Not saying that where I am from everybody has insured everything but if you actually own a house wouldn't you make sure to insure it right away?

Well, like I said, I have no idea how it works in the US. Over here, you can get a general insurance for buildings you own, they are fairly regulated by law. As floods and similar natural disasters are rare you would usually have to get that seperately.

Most grown people also have an insurance for their belongings in their home. Like I said, things are pretty regulated by law so insurances don't differ too much from one another and they are not allowed to pull off some
>whoops, you didn't get the extra-extra tornado insurance which is not included in the all natural catastrophies insurance

>>388792021
Tons of people do. However, it's uncommon for small personal possessions to be covered by something like this, and it takes time to go through the process of replacing them if they are. Usually, the disaster happenes, and over the next several months, insurance companies go around doing estimates. Certain things like destroyed trees might give you money, and other things like cars won't because that is something that would normally be insured separate from your house in the firm's eyes. You can walk away with minimal damage and a nice windfall for having shit you don't care about damaged, or have your whole fucking house blown away and only given about 60% of what it would've sold for along with the stuff inside. But yeah, it depends on the area. Nicer houses, people are usually better with their money and buy better insurance with their house. Poorer areas, you get more people that are ignorant of how insurance works and are surprised that their cheapo shitty plan doesn't give them 100% reimbursement for everything they own.

Something that I found helps with emulating games that require actual control is mapping the directional pad to wasd and a and b to something like the arrow keys. Since controllers always have you use your left hand to move, this makes things a little bit easier cognitively. Maybe this will help you enjoy emulators a bit.

Insurance companies don't exist to give you money when you need it. They exist as a part of capitalism purely to take money from you, and they've paid our government enough money to make it illegal not to buy their insurance.
You pay and you pay and you pay for insurance because it's mandatory for everyone either by law, landlord rules, or the threat of complete and utter financial ruin for the rest of your entire life just for taking an ambulance. Then, when you get in a car accident, or your house is flooded by a hurricane, or you get something as dumb as strep throat, the insurance companies nitpick and weasel their way out of every last dime they can possibly avoid giving back to you. You pay them hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of your entire life and you're fucking LUCKY if you get enough money back to buy a single solitary antibiotic pill when you actually need them for something. So yeah, I guess we are idiots, because we're still living in this shitty fucking country ruled by greed and we haven't blown our fucking brains out yet.

No shit you recommend any type of insurance, you're one of them. Why bother pretending the shit that you peddle is actually helpful? No respectable landlords would ever rent to someone who doesn't have renter's insurance anyway. We're forced to buy into your programs that are guaranteed to buttfuck us when we need you the most, the least you could do is look us in the eyes and be honest while you fill our assholes with your greedy, black seed.
>>
>>388797185

Yes. If you rent, get renters. If you own and are responsible for the outside of your house, get homeowners. If you own but ARE NOT responsible for the outside of your house, get condo. Dont bother with anything else unless you live in Cali, then get Earthquake. Earthquake is handled by the state and has its own separate billing but is totally worth it.

>>
>>388798596

>>
>>388798659
I have only what's absolutely required
I haven't gotten fucked by a payout, it's just that insurance is more expensive than it needs to be based on often bullshit factors. I've paid more for insurance than I would have had just saving and paying for expenses out of pocket.
Better yet, single payer systems would work far better under the model insurance follows.
>>
>>388798659
I have insurance because you might as well be publicly executed by the state if you don't have everything covered. Thankfully, I can still get health and dental from my dad's cop job for like another couple years, but renter's, car, etc. I have to pay for. I have dental but I haven't been to the dentist in over 10 years because there's no fucking way in hell I trust the insurance company when they say that visits are covered totally. Guarantee that if I so much as tried to talk to the receptionist they'd charge me $80 and say my insurance only covers me opening the door. Health has *never* covered shit at all. All my vaccines for my restaurant job and moving into my dorms way back when I started college? 100% out of my pocket, not a fucking dime from insurance. A visit to urgent care because I couldn't fucking speak from strep throat? They barely chipped in just to have some grad student say hello to me, and the vast majority of the charge went straight to me. Every car accident that I've been involved in (never me driving) has resulted in both parties' insurance companies blaming the other driver and not shelling out a god damn dime until someone had to call and start screaming at the college intern they had chained to the phone.
Insurance is a fucking joke. What a load of shit the whole system is. Just another fucked up way to rape and pillage the country, just like the Credit system.

You have shit insurance history, a bad credit score, or bad claims history. If you have shit insurance history, just pay your premiums and dont cancel. Dont have lapses if you can avoid it. if you have bad claims history, they fall off after 3 years with most companies. That's a bad rap and it sucks, but that's what insurance goes off of. If you have a bad credit score, then I have nothing to suggest, that shit sucks and I dont believe insurance companies should go off of that for premiums.

Believe me, I'm not a heartless robot, I get it, it sucks, but there's reason behind most of it.

Dont be afraid to shop on renewal. Depending on who you're with, you might be getting the best deal you can, but you wont know until you call other companies and do quotes.

Dont buy unless they run your motor vehicle report before starting coverage. Some companies wont do that until AFTER you start a policy with them.

Dont ever carry JUST minimum coverage. At least get the next step up on liability at the very least. Check if you can raise deductibles if you're required to carry full coverage.

Hope that helps Anon.
>>
>>388800346
Okay, but if you drive without insurance, you get absolutely buttfucked by the law, and if you DO pay for insurance, you end up paying the company more money than if you had just paid for the damages and shit with your own saved up money. Good drivers are fucked the worst by insurance, because we never get paid by the companies, because we don't get in accidents.
>>
>>388800970
>there's a reason behind most of it
Yeah, insurance companies are greedy and malicious.
>>
>>388801079

>good drivers are fucked the worst by insurance

Tell that to people that need SR22's. I regularly quote them over 500 a month and they have no choice but to take it because they're shit drivers.

I get it feels like you're fucked but you have no idea how fucked you can get if you're an absolutely shit driver.
>>
>>388800970
I have had insurance continuously since my first care, just just one accident, a 740 credit score and the only other claim I've made was for a hit and run.
Insurance is just more expensive than it's worth, to fill the pockets of corporations while we diligently wait for them to bless us by fulfilling the occasional claim.
/v/ complains about games cutting put content and reselling them as dlc, but that has nothing on the insurance industry.
>>
>>388800970
>Dont ever carry JUST minimum coverage. At least get the next step up on liability at the very least. Check if you can raise deductibles if you're required to carry full coverage.

>don't pay the least you can get away with!!!! pay even more money even though you can barely afford the cheapest shit in town so you just throw money down the garbage disposal and pray to god that some drunk driver t-bones you so you can actually feel like it's worth it!!!
>>
>>388801198
Shit driver or great driver, I'm still paying someone money for nothing and hoping that I never have to beg on my hands and knees for them to toss me a dime back.
>>
>>388801272
Even if a drunk driver tboned you their insurance would be paying for it not yours.
So the only way to get your money's worth is to get your car stolen
>>
>>388801393
Even then they'd probably give you barely enough to buy a bicycle.
>>
>>388801393
Speaking of SR22s, if someone else hits you and is at fault but doesn't have insurance at all, doesn't that just mean you don't get a dime since your insurance company won't pay you for someone else's mistake?

Depends on if you got the comprehensive and you still have to pay the deductible. So you have to pay them just so they will pay you money you already gave them it's fucking nonsense.
>>388801681
Yes, unless you have the extra underinsured motorist coverage only an extra $70 :^)
>>
>>388801272

Lets take an example. In PA the minimum coverage is 15k/35k for bodily injury and 5k for property damage. If you do any more than that, the insurance company you are with is not going to cover you and you are out of pocket for the rest of it. I realize this is an extreme example, considering that PA has severely low limits against the rest of the nation, but lets just say that you get in an accident and you're considered at fault. The property damage is at least 50k.

Guess who's now on the hook for 45k worth of property damage? Bankruptcy may not protect you in these cases, so you may be stuck for that for the rest of your life.

This is why I recommend people DONT carry minimum liability limits. You are completely within your right to do so, but if you're at fault in in accident and you go over your limits, you are absolutely fucked.

Full coverage (collision and comprehensive) is a different matter though.

>>388801759

It can be good money, but it depends on who you're with/what they're willing to pay for comissions.

>>388801681

Unless you have uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. Otherwise you have to pursue legal action against them and you can bet your ass you wont get a cent out of the driver. Dont believe the other anon, in MOST cases, its not that expensive to add on. Some states can fuck you with it (FL, MI off of the top of my head), but just call your company and ask them. Alternatively, you can carry medpay, which will pay your health insurance deductible, so if UM/UIM is too expensive, medpay can make up the difference. PIP too, if your state has it.
>>
>>388802060

Addendum: medpay WONT pay for collision deductible, so make sure your state allows UIM PD because if not, you're wasting your time.

Neither is DLC but it's still jewing. These are things that should be inherent in buying insurance, I shouldn't have to pay extra to be covered if somebody else hits my car and can't pay up.
>>
>>388801232

You are getting fucked with your current company then. So long as you arent getting marked as fault in accident, you shouldnt be paying that much.
>>
>>388802363

But you are going to, and until the laws change otherwise, its always going to be an extra coverage.

I'm not saying its not fucked up, but that's just the way it is.

Addendum: some states do require UM/UIM. Those states usually have better rates than those who dont.

So why are you bothering to defend this shit?
We may as well have taxes to pay for this shit that's the whole fucking point of government to protect the greater community against the inadequacies of individuals. Taxes pay for all this traffic infrastructure designed to prevent accidents so why shouldn't it also have our backs when an accident inevitably happens?
But fuck me, I need to get back to playing video games.
>>
>>388802363
As fucked up as it sounds, the insurance you are paying for is covering you causing damage to the car/property, not the other way around. It's retarded. Insurance is fucked by design anyways: the most responsible people pay the burden of the cost vs payout and people become increasingly reliant on it over time. People doing shit like running windshield repair from gravel through their insurance company just raises premiums for everyone.

I do agree with one thing though, and that is that mandated insurance should not be for-profit, period. If the government wants to force everyone to have insurance to socialize/offset the cost of a safety net so fucking be it if that's what gets voted in, but it should not be then for-profit. It is no longer capitalism driving the market when all consumers are forced to carry it. Health insurance is a prime example of this fuckery.

Gov fag here
Anyone who lives in an area deemed a 1% chance to flood any given year is required to buy flood insurance. Its highly recommended lots of other places but often ignored
The insurance that those who are required to be covered usually end up buying is the federal flood insurance, which is cheapest and also currently $25 billion underwater. This same fund will be giving payouts to people still, but not anywhere near enough to rebuild their house or anything
>>
>>388802819

I'm just explaining how it works to people who dont have insight to how it works. You can draw your own conclusions.

I didn't live in that retarded place nor its retarded state. I, along with other members of the militia that was formed after Katrina, had to literally shoot people who came from there as they tried to invade my town.

Why are you huffing and puffing about damage to the city when you're really upset that you had to deal with niggers getting swept out of the ghetto? Texas took care of its people but Texas also isn't as corrupt as LA or MS are.
>>
>>388803159
I agree. I mean as a long-term solution, if we see mandatory insurance as a required safety net, then the logical step is to standardize everything and cut out as much fat/middleman as possible. This would kill a bunch of jobs short-term, though. It'll be interesting to see how auto-insurance handles the rise of self-driving cars becoming slowly standardized.

Landlord here, renter's insurance is pretty damn cheap for what it does, namely protecting your ass if you fuck up

Had two fires, one from some retarded stoner faggot who burned his kitchen down when he decided to take a nap in the middle of cooking and some fat guy who accidentally turned on his stove when he had clothing on it.

Renters insurance covered all tenants affected, in particular the tenants who were below the fire whose units were flooded by the fire department action. IIRC they get all their stuff ported over and their relocation expenses paid.
>>
>>388803228
MS and AL, which were hit harder by Katrina, recovered quicker and rebuilt quicker than Texas and Louisiana did. Their ports, for example, reopened a month to 45 days later. Texas averaged 3 months, Louisiana more.

I responded to Katrina in the National Guard and my blood boils whenever I see a New Orleans cop or Louisiana state trooper. Half of them were fucking cowards who abandoned their posts, and then returned when everything calmed down to try and claim hero.
The other half was so utterly incompetent that the entire force should've been disbanded and left to the feds and the guard. Fuck, im mad...

The way I see it, you might as well be forced to have insurance with the system we have now. If you don't have insurance, your entire life will be fucking ruined forever if the slightest thing goes wrong. We might as well have socialized insurance like the rest of the developed world and at least make sure that it actually covers the cost of things people need.
>>
>>388803464
The last time I had Renter's insurance, they said they wouldn't pay me for a single thing that was worth less than $500. I don't own shit worth $500. The closest thing I own that's worth more than $500 in my PC, but I built that out of parts, and they were trying their hardest to make sure that they counted each piece individually so they wouldn't have to give me anything if my house burned down. Thank god I'm not a retard, they would have left me with *nothing.*
>>
>>388803797
Honestly, it's good to know I made a difference.
I returned from Iraq only a couple weeks before I left to New Orleans, and seeing how similar things were made me really uneasy. I keep telling myself that I'll go back there again someday, but I keep remembering all the bad shit that went down.
Call me a bitch, but I've probably lost more sleep over Katrina than I did about my two deployments to a warzone.

The problem with this is there has to be a lot of compromise and change for it to be effective. This country is a fuckvalot larger than those other countries and so balancing taxation to not absolutely screw us while keeping those systems up and running isn't something I trust the government to do. This is ignoring the immediate impact those systems would have on the industries. I think until I hear about how to provide wages high enough to doctors to encourage them to actually practice still, I don't find it a good alternative to just reforming what is currently in place where there is massive bloat (medication costs, billing issues, etc)
>>
>>388804558
That makes sense desu, there was actual turmoil in New Orleans, Iraq was just a place for rednecks to shoot at brown people.

>>388804690
to be honest the union should be dissolved and it should just be a bunch of separate countries with the USA being more like the EU

If it makes you feel any better, Houston has been almost entirely the opposite. Shit has been incredible with how much people help each other. I mean yeah, the rough parts of town are going to have some looters and curfews exist to help curb that, but damn man. Nobody shot at choppers, plenty of resources in shelters, a ton of civilians teamed up with first responders to do boat rescues. It made me proud. I even saw people being kind in the grocery stores which were running out of everything.

>doctors will stop working because wahhhh they aren't making millions upon millions of dollars hand over fist
Those people shouldn't be doctors in the first place. You should be a doctor because you want to be, not because it pays too much money.
>>
>>388804896
Quit being an idealist. The money is to offset the grueling workload and requirements to be a physician. Yes, some specializations probably make too much for their levels of stress, but there simply aren't enough doctors willing to work primary care or in hospitals because they pay worse for more work and it's often thankless. You're advocating for people who go a quarter of a million dollars in debt to get paid less and be okay with that because they love what they do in a time where we need more doctors, not less. Doctors/nurses/medical staff are the only part of the medical field whose cost is entirely worth paying the high price for.
>The median four-year cost of medical school (including expenses and books) was $278,455 for private schools, and $207,866 for public schools in 2013 according to the Association of American Medical Colleges.

god i hate how 'rougelike' gets thrown around for every damn game that ends on death. this is a platformer and nothing more. and a damn fun on at that, albeit incredibly frustrating sometimes with the controls. i found it better on the ios, controls are tighter and makes more sense desu
>>
>>388804130

I dunno about replacement costs since I didn't get any of that, but the important part I was vouching for was the tenant's liability insurance component.

Both fires were around 400k to repair and rebuild which was paid by the renter's insurance or otherwise our insurance company goes after the person responsible.

In both cases they were fucking stupid individuals but having someone go after you for 400k is probably not a good thing to wish on anybody.

In any event renter's insurance is like 15 bucks a month.
>>
>>388794747
instead of being an unbelievably insensitive asshole insulting someone in a topic you literally haven't a clue about to begin with, against that same someone who just lost everything and is just looking for a distraction, why not just fucking recommend a game and be done with it? How much of a prick are you? This is a honest question because your level of stupidity and ignorance is shocking.

>>388804558
That's because you saw what you were fighting for, so to speak. Don't worry: Only big cities are shit holes in the US. Once you get away from places that have 100k+ people in a city, things start getting better.

>>388804694
There was no turmoil in Pascagoula, MS, which is where I was during Katrina. Some queer stuff, sure -- boat in football stadium ~3 miles away from the coast being the one that stands out most in my mind -- but our city and such was restored maybe two, three weeks down the line to working order. Six months later was all but repaired

We honest to God did have armed civilian patrols in the majority of the town, most of who were military as we have three military bases within 50 miles.
