I don't believe anyone questions why Gordon suddenly reappeared after 20 years either, nor do they ask where he disappeared to. They seem to just take it as good fortune and leave it at that. After we find out Eli knew about their mutual friend, we can assume probably at least Kleiner knew as well. Barney probably didn't think too much on it.
