That's a CD. I have a couple of those. You might think this is a case of date gone forever, but somehow it's still there. I guess my CDs are magical or something.
>>
>>388768450
anything is better out of the reach of retards who can't properly take care of their stuff

a disc is one of those things that almost always has a protective place to be, unless some retard ends up breaking it

my ultima vii cd is in perfect condition and it didn't take effort to keep it that way
>>
>>388768450
By the time your physical games start to rot the digital servers will be long shut down and all hard drives you've installed the game on will stop working.
>>
>>388769201

>physical game fails
>have to buy one for $100,000 off of ebay because there are only so few copies that still work
>>
>>388769201
That point rarely gets brought up in "there" types of threads.
>>
>>388769368
What's wrong with keeping the disk as a secondary backup?

Good luck keeping your hard drives alive when the next massive solar flare arrives and fries all electronics.

these threads are so silly, people blaming a boogieman because they won't admit they don't take good care of their shit.

pic related: a 1989 CD based game
>>
just take better care of your shit. It's a fucking CD, it's not a goddamn cartridge where the save file battery eventually dies.
>>
>>388769971
Many people do. It's not an unknown practice.

Still waiting for better storage mediums that last a hundred years. I own my animu on disks, since nothing I watch it that obscure.
>>
>>388770140
I would back them up anyway. If you have 2 copies, there is a better chance you still having it in 30 years.
>>
>>388770514
that game will be 30 years old in two years.
>>
>>388770613
Good. I own a copy of China Crisis' first album on CD, physically pressed in 1985. I backed it up. Why? So there are 2 copies, to be safe.
>>
>>388768450
Nice hairline, faggot.
>>
>>388768857
CDs work as long as the spot had destroyed insignificant data.

>>388769037
CD rot can happen even if you have stored them in perfect condition. If you have some Saturn or Sega CD games check them against the light and you will find tiny dots like in OP's pic.
>>
>>388771876
I have one with tons of those "holes", all easily visible. ON THE DATA LAYER. And all 8 tracks on the CD are not only playable, but aren't showing any bits missing.

It's a mystery.
>>
>>388770140
Well you usually only see CD rot when holding the CD against the light. The spot on OP's pic wouldn't be noticeable if there was no light behind the CD. So your pic does not proof anything. And CD rot depends highly on the cover print on the CD. Sega Saturn and Sega CD games are notorious for this.
>>
>>388772115
only saturn games i saw that were "rotted" came from the back of some guys pickup truck and was part of a lot with a sega saturn that had a large amount of rust on the shielding as if it was submerged for a few days in a flood)
>>
>>388772085
Well like I said, you don't even know what's missing. And the data that was on those spots is gone 100%. It's like a scratched up PS2 games. I had GTA SA and everything would play just fine until I reached a certain cutscene and the game would crash with an error. The sound tracks might not be affected in a significant way now, but seeing how your CD is rotting, it will be an issue in the future. Could take months, years or decades who are we to guess what data gets randomly destroyed?
>>
>>388768450
CDs are the worst data storage format ever invented. They're fragile, inconvenient to use and decay just as fast as magnetic tape.
>>
>>388772328
CD rot comes from humidity as far as I understand. Seeing how some areas and countries tend to be very humid there is barely anything you can do. Only option would be to isolate your house, if it isn't keep the windows closed and having a dehumidifier running all the time. That's just not worth it for most casual collectors. That's why cartridges will always be superior in my opinion.
>>
>>388772465
Well, here is another piece of the puzzle. Not only can I rip with no errors, the Accurate Rip database is showing a 100% accuracy against other rips by other people around the world.

The only people who break physical video game discs are children who's parents never taught them responsibility, and fat grown up slobs who take far better care of their games than they do they're gelatinous body, and yet somehow, those games are still thrown about their manchild house, some under the couch, one has pizza grease all over it, and he's getting angry because none of them work, even though it's his fault.
>>
>>388768450
disc rot is a myth
>>
>>388772810
Okay fuck if I know then. I don't know how data is actually stored in CDs and if there are a lot of empty spots or something that don't matter. That would be my only guess. Only thing I actually know, is that there can be no data without the layer, bc the plastic does not hold the data, but merely protects it.

That is an old game disc or music CD that has had the silvery top layer flaked or scratched off in that one particular spot. It was probably an accident.

I went to take tape off of an old greatest hits PS1 game, and the entire section under the tape came off. Maybe it's because of old age, but that's different than rot, and maybe you shouldn't be buying something you know you'll just complain about later.

>>
>>388773059
>>388773608

Basically this. I'm a fatass but I know what I'd need to fix myself and it isn't to replace everything I eat with greens.

I'll never get this approach to things. Eat balanced portions, try and incorporate greens into your diet where you can and add cardio to start offsetting your calorie intake.

I didn't grow up eating vegetables because my mom was a failure so I have that same reaction when I have to eat something that smells bad or, worse, has the wrong "texture." Vegetables have this texture that's...different from anything else.

Our solution when I was trying to add them into my diet was smoothies with kale, some veggies and some fruit. Whole fruit, not juiced. Worked okay.

Oh, and just in case this thread is not taken down yet, might as well mention this. I lost only ONE disk to rot, and it was a DVD. Honestly, it's the reason that I prefer physical media over digital. It also explains why I hate DLC or launch patches. Servers will eventually be gone, but discs will stay, as long as they are taken care of. A recent example is the Scott Pilgrim game. That shit is long gone, as there's no way for anyone to purchase it anymore. If a game is rare or expensive, say Earthbound as an example, it's still possible to purchase it and play it. With Scott Pilgrim, you either have to buy a system with it already downloaded, or know a friend that has it.

Mammals in general can't deal with spicy peppers a lot of the time....or turtles apparently.

Main reason being is that the spiciness is technically a chemical reaction burn, not actual heat. Animals just go "PAIN" and start flipping out because they don't know how to deal with it.

Mammals specifically because peppers are usually only spicy to them. Birds and most reptiles don't feel it because the chemical is specifically there to drive of mammals.

>>
>>388776567
Could be. The spicy compounds are mostly for driving off anything the plant doesn't want eating them.

Mammals in particular I know the reasons at least. Pepper seeds, if you've ever seen them, are pretty thin and flimsy. So flimsy in fact that our stomach acid just destroys them. Peppers follow the same "Make fruit, get fruit eaten, thing poops seeds out somewhere else, grow, repeat" process certain other plants do, so certain animals destroying the seeds causes a problem.

So the seeds generate the spicy compounds to give certain animals the message "STOP, DON'T EAT ME!" This leaves them open to be eaten by birds and reptiles, who tend to have less harsh digestion systems.

To clarify, capsaicin TRICKS your body into thinking it's being chemically burned
It activates all the parts of your digestive system that would normally alert you that you're swallowing acid

It's a fairly common response to it too I've found.

One aversion I do have is tomatoes, specifically dealing with tomatoes. If they're ground down or pre-sliced I will eat that shit up on anything. But cutting them is not possible for me. It sets all my hairs on end, the texture as the knife goes through the tomatoes instills in me exactly the same sensation that I get were I to run my nails on a chalkboard or fine concrete. I HATE it so much.
