Air cooling or liquid cooling, which one should I go with for my next build? And before anybody ask, yes, I'm planning on overclocking my CPU.
>>388754978
>yes, I'm planning on overclocking my CPU.
then get liquid.
look at the corsair h60 or h100 depending on your needs.
im OCing a i7-6700k to 4.4ghz and the h60 works great.
Liquid isn't worth the risk of it destroying your system imo, the 212 Evo worked fine on my 2500k @ 4.5ghz.
>>388755609
>Liquid isn't worth the risk of it destroying your system imo
how would it do that
>>388755609
>Liquid isn't worth the risk of it destroying your system imo
Risk of destroying the system? What do you mean?
>>388755076
air OC is fine unless you really want 4.8 - 5 ghz or something
>>388755690
>>388755687
It takes just one leak and your system is dead.
>>388755845
Is it not distilled water? Explain to me how distilled water would destroy your computer.
>>388755687
>>388755690
If it ever leaks. I know it's rare but in my opinion that coupled with the fact that air cooling does the job well enough, AIO liquid coolers are inferior to air cooling.
A decent air cooler is more then adequate for normal overclocking.
>>388755998
shit gets in the water and fucks things up over time.
>>388756249
So change the water? I don't understand what the problem here is.
>>388755998
If it leaks it won't be distilled for much longer unless the inside of your case is 100% clean
>>388755998
distilled water can still conduct electricity, just not as much as non distilled. if you're running a overclocked setup then you're definitely putting a ton of voltage stress on your system so any water is not good at all.
Unless you have a fairly high end CPU that can handle significant overclocking I'd say go for a 212 Evo. It's more than adequate for anything in the high-mid range and down
>>388756145
What air cooler would you recommend for an i7 7700K then? And what would be the overclock limit?
>>388756318
>distilled water can still conduct electricity
It's a poor conductor which is precisely why it's used when dealing with electricity.
water cooling is only for extreme overclocking. if you're not going all the way then just stick to air cooling. much cheaper, easier, and safer. unless you want to be that one douchebag that wants to look at LEDs and tubes on the side of your PC.
>>388755765
you're right, but honestly for OP i think the pros of liquid beyond the temperatures (such as less noise, less dust) are worth it for a slightly higher price.
since hes' overclocking, im gonna assume he is spending a little more on his build anyway.
>>388756468
212 evo
as for overclock limit, it varies on the build quality of your cpu. not every cpu overclocks the same. some are lucky and can overclock high, others shut down instantly.
>>388756709
>212 evo
Isn't that one pretty cheap? I was thinking of getting a Noctua.
>>388755609
All in one liquid coolers are a ton safer and I haven't seen them leak, custom loops are more prone to leaking but then again I don't use either, I've been using a hyper 212 evo for years now.
Just don't go for shit, low end AIO water cooler.
Its better to aim for air cooler for around that price range.
>>388756754
get what you want man, read reviews.
>water cooling
yeah put your pc in a fucking acquarium while you're at it stupidheads
>>388754978
water cooling is meme tier
>>388756754
Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's bad. It's one of the most well known CPU coolers because of how good it is for the price. Make some comparisons before you decide what to buy, don't disregard something just because it's cheap.
>>388756965
I hope you short out your computer you dumb dumb,
>>388756754
I don't recommend using Noctua if you don't know what you're doing, they're too big and could bend your MB if you don't install them properly, which happens in like 99% of the cases.
>>388754978
LIQUIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIID!
>>388757071
okay let me short out my computer by farting in it BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT IT SEEMS LIKE WHAT YOU'RE TELLING ME
>>388756965
ok, now what?
>>388757227
give salary to your fishies and pay their families once they die of cancer
>>388757227
Wouldn't you have to constantly replace the water in this because of the exposed metal being corroded?
>>388754978
liquid is meme, air is just as effective and quiet while being ten times cheaper and easier to install
>>388758143
No because it's not really water, it's mineral oil.
>>388758143
>>388758237
It's water without all the minerals, meaning that changing it is the equivalent of greasing doorhinges.
>>388754978
Why not liquid air?
>>388758214
There are some closed loop water coolers just as cheap as air coolers though like the Maelstrom 240T and it's even easier to install than the air cooler since you just plug the thing into your CPU socket and screw the radiator and fans to your case window.
>>388758381
>It's water without all the minerals
No, it's mineral oil, look it up.
>>388757227
>no fish
>>388758410
This. Liquid oxygen is best of both worlds.
>>388758571
What if you put fish on there and they eat the motherboard capacitors?
>>388758237
How often do you have to replace mineral oil?
>>388757227
go away Luke
>>388754978
AIOs rarely fail (or leak)
They are made by literally one company (Asetek) and then rebranded by gaymen companies like Corsair, Coolermaster, Thermaltake, etc.
Air coolers still have their uses because AIOs are expensive and older cases rarely support them
You can chuck in a Hyper 212 or any low-profile Noctua/Cryorig cooler on almost anything and they're fine if you're not overclocking or are just using default Intel Turboboost
Cooling is literally a meme, you literally do not need some fancy liquid cooler which has a risk of fucking up your entire build if there's a leak.
>>388758714
>not keeping your motherboard capacitors in the fridge
>>388758812
>not understanding how electricity works
>>388758143
yes but we have the technology to do that
>>388758571
Can fish swim in oil?
>>388758812
I have a lot of friends who have liquid cooling on their PCs nowadays, some use closed loops and others have their own custom liquid cooling system and I honestly have never heard of any of them ever had their shit leaking, it's probably something extremely rare.
>>388759041
It used to be less rare, and horror stories pop up every once in a while, often enough to scare people off of it. So it is understandable that the fear is still there, especially for things as expensive as custom PCs.
>>388759182
>So it is understandable that the fear is still there
it's not because you'd have to have no understanding of the parts in there in the first place before you factor in cooling systems
>>388758956
You would sure know how liquids would affect electricity after shoving a bunch of vibrating dildos up your Mom's cunt, huh?
>>388758735
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZrXwq5MHB0
Why fucking bother to do this
>>388759383
You're under arrest.
>>388759528
You'll never catch me alive.
>>388756118
Yeah, even if liquid cooling has become much more safer in the past 5 years, I still would rather prefer air cooling.
If you live in a very hot environment then I would probably suggest liquid cooling.
>>388759730
I'll wait until you reincarnate, then.
Can a measly hyper 212 really work well alongside an i7 7700K? Even if the overclock is minimal or non existant it's a CPU that by default already runs pretty hot.
liquid cooling is for engines, not electronics
>>388760003
What are batteries for 300 alex
>>388754978
do i want liquid, go with liquid
do i want air, go air
air and liquid mostly give the same temps even with overclock
>>388754978
noctua. no point for the liquid meme imo.
>>388756145
fuck that retard telling you 212 evo. get a noctua.
>>388761762
Noctua is hard to install and might fuck your MB if you don't install it properly, a 212 is fine in most cases.
You dont need liquid cooling unless you're planning on taxing your system. All-in-one water cooling units wont lower temperatures more than air under normal circumstances anyway.
>>388754978
My delidded 7700k hasn't broken 70 degrees
Watercooled in a mITX Ncase M1
If you delid your CPU and use liquid metal, air cooling will be absolutely fine in a mATX or ATX case
Wifi card is spotty to all fuck so I'm gonna go Ethernet. Only problem is its in the other room. Amazon dropped of the 50ft cable and wall clips already and now I got 2 options, snake it through crawlspace and drill or cut a small hole in door and wire it on wall.
>>388762323
lol I didn't know what the fuck you were talking about so I just googled it, gotta say something about itnot in a million years
>>388758987
swim no. float yes
