These lists are always top-heavy with recent releases, which makes sense. They're fresher in memory. But this just kinda proves that any "greatest of all time" type list is going to be kinda silly. Breath of the Wild came out literally months ago; we have no idea if it's going to really hold up, unlike, say, Half-Life 2 or RE4, two games which most people can agree are deserving of any spots on lists like these. Hell, I thought Breath of the Wild was genuinely incredible, but I think we still need to ruminate on and discuss its design and artistry a bit before we start sucking its dick for all eternity.

I'd go further and say that actually "ranking" games like this is fucking stupid, but that's neither here nor there.

Perfected it how? I didn't spend 200 hours like some people, let go after spending 50 hours and beating it but the open world wasn't exactly anything special.

World feels small due to fast travel points everywhere, but it's a necessity as they didn't implement a proper way to travel around (a barely functioning horse isn't good enough).
Ubisoft style towers, except it doesn't mark the 900 korok seeds on your map when activating the tower, or shrines.
They do away with making puzzles interesting, relegating them to shrines with the same visual look rather than actually building them into the world. 120 shrines might have been too much for this, but it would have been nice if 20-30 shrines were in the actual world. The shrines that require traversing an environment to reach them are close to this, but in the end are still shrines you enter and the challenge is limited.
Side quests are rather easy, and not all that interesting apart from the corrupted dragon.
World bosses (mini bosses?) are fun, I'll give it that.

It really isn't that much better than other open worlds. The entire time playing the game I was thinking it would have been better suited to a more focused title without a massive world, but I also feel the same way about just about every open world title.

It's the first single player game that I have put at least 100 hours into. It's funny because I think the Souls games are the more overrated games in the last 20 year. Man they were so slow and boring to me, walking around in dull rocky castle rolling around enemies. I couldn't get into the rpg elements they had.

The list isn't about how influential a game was, it's about how all these games compare right now.

OoT is simply going to continuously drop places as games advance, it's factually not as mechanically good as most in the top 20 now, especially when compared to games like BOTW, GTAV, SMG2 and Bloodborne.

Which is a good thing because it allows for the game to have a much more natural difficulty curve opposed to DaS II where they had to balance each route the same because they had no way of knowing where someone would go first.
