So what? This only affects poorfag pirates and poorfags with no internet

If you didn't get it on consoles, that means you are getting it for a gaming PC (because nobody does gaming laptops). So then, when is your PC never connected to the internet?

>>388717685
Most of the biggest mobile games require you to be online anyway
>>
>>388717685
it's just /v/ blowing things out of proportion again because they have to wait a little while before pirating the game.

a few even tried to intentionally tank the steam score by buying the game and playing for 0.1 to 0.8 hours then posting negative saying little more then "it's got Denuvo"
>>

you can't drag the files into your pc, save them in a disc or anywhere and claim its forever and ever yours, nope, you get banned for speaking your mind, for false positives, for abusing a bug, etc and byebye games.

If i don't I just uninstall them and if I do I'll get the game for full price if I think it's worth it or I wait for a sale and get it then.

I'm pretty sure that amongst the ones who are the most vocal about this issue are people who were going to pirate the game regardless, simply because they found something legitimate to shit on without getting exposed.

It makes me kinda upset that the people who worked on this game are witnessing their product getting so much backlash simply because of one stupid decision. I think the issue could have been adressed more reasonably. If this turns out to be a justification as to why Mania won't get a follow-up that would be terrible.

According to anons ITT, the PC version is objectively the best version because it actively prevents pirates from playing it, while the other versions don't do enough to discourage pirates or people who play used games, which are even worse.

Once again PC wins.

It's not about rights. There's no right to not have DRM in something.
There's a right to have a working product, and you could very easily argue that always-on would give you a non-working product.
But, if advertised as requiring always-on they're not actually doing anything against your rights.

Now, don't get me wrong, DRM, especial the always-on type, or another intrusive type, sucks.
But it's not doing anything to your rights as a consumer.
Get the argument right otherwise you'll never make a difference because they can brush you off as a moron.

so why don't consoles prevent used games from being played? The customer shouldn't be allowed to play a product unless he pays full price for it. Customer rights are evil and need to be abolished because of gamer entitlement.

>>
>>388721460
That's the worst part of this entire mess.

They were finished the game, everyone loved it, discussion was generally great all around, and then they had to shoot themselves in the foot by making the game into ammo for spergs who subscribe to the console wars meme.

It didn't need to be this way, we could've had a legitimately decent Sonic game that was free of shitposting, something that hasn't been done in over 20 years, and yet...here we are.

Sega deserved to become Nintendo's bitch, you'd think they'd learn how anti-piracy shit doesn't work after what happened with the Dreamcast.

>>
>>388721750
Ultimately this.
Mania is best as a portable game. People arguing "well durr hurr why wouldn't you play this on your GTX titan 5?" are missing the point. Mania is a lightweight game that even my old XP laptop can run. I'm not going to be expecting constant authentication when trying to play it.

But I guess brainlets will fall for anything if they can rationalize it to themselves.

>>388721606
>so why don't consoles prevent used games from being played?
They (was it Microsoft?) tried that. The outcry was so huge that they scrapped the idea.

It should be noted, it was not illegal for them to do that, nor did go against your rights, it was just that they were worried that it would hurt their sales because of the level of backlash.

Consumer rights are important, but if something is sold to you honestly, then your rights aren't being trampled.

We also have to acknowledge that digital is a new medium, we haven't had the decades (centuries?) of court cases and government policies that shape the medium the way physical property has.

Maybe DRM will one day be seen as against consumer rights, but at the moment, it isn't.

By all means, tell them it sucks, don't buy games with DRM and lead an anti-DRM movement, but don't pretend that non-existant-rights are being trampled on. Your goal is to create new rights.

Which is fine.

Don't be so autistic. What he is saying is that one of the most recognized consumer rights is the the doctrine of first sale, which would potentially be violated if the Xbone decided to kill used games (it certainly goes against the basis of the law, but Microsoft was willing to try it, so who knows).

This is why companies say that you don't "own" your games when you buy them. They're always running the risk of violating that and getting taken to court over it.

Denuvo barely affects pirates, any popular game gets cracked within a month now. So it's just a short delay tactic.

Also, Steam users who bought the game are pissed. That means people who paid for the game, so any piracy argument means nothing. The only thing it's doing is hurting paying customers.

Piracy is good in the costumer side because it lets you test the games to see if you like them. I wouldn't have bought BoI or Darkest Dungeon if I hadn't been able to play them first and see if they are fun.
>>
>needing a company to practically hold your hand to make sure you're playing as intended

You might be okay with this if you're a small infant incapable of choosing for yourselves.
But as paying customers we should expect better.
>>
>>388724770
It's an endless cycle where companies become more and more scummy, which causes people to buy less games, which encourages companies to become more scummy just to squeeze as much juice from the lemon before it rots off the tree.

I mean, when you have Sega doing shit like this >>388719229 it's hard not to see piracy as a viable option in the long run since a) DRM has been known to fuck with paying customers and b) DRM will be cracked eventually.

With that being said, people who try and justify their piracy can jump off a bridge, as well as the people who think that people who complain about it are poorfags who just want an excuse to pirate.

>>
>>388724931
That's completely pointless to protect sales. There's no evidence that it helps sales on release, but DRM will protect the long term trickle of downloads years down the line. It only makes sense to keep it for years and years. Normally it would just get cracked over time, but Denuvo claims to be secure, so it would work. I'm sure Steam is a much better option for most publishers for this reason, and moving a lot of old, commonly emulated games there proves this.

Sega clearly thought this out, the more I think about this whole situation the more fucked up it gets. They could've easily released the game as is alongside console releases as it's pretty clear the delay for polish/bug fixes was a total lie. So why didn't they? Simple. Sega didn't want the backlash from the PC market to effect console sales. Yes, you'd still have people who wouldn't have cared either way, you see that even now. Point is, Sega was really fucking devious with this shit.

Ignoring your retarded fucking appeal to authority without a single stat to back it up, executives view (and they've stated this train of thought in press releases and shareholder meetings and whatnot) piracy numbers as "lost sales". They see that a game was pirated 10k times on a site and think "those are 10k sales we didn't make!" ignoring the fact that a number of those would never have bought the game to begin with even without DRM. So they put shit like Denuvo on (causing more people to not buy the game) and they see "oh wow there's no piracy we aren't losing sales!". They sell 500k copies (less than they would've due to people running from Denuvo) and then decide people just didn't have any interest because those are the maximum sales they could've made. But at least they didn't lose any to people who weren't going to pay!
Hell we can even take interviews with Gabe Newell where he sat down with the heads of companies and explained to them how DRM isn't a benefit and piracy can also serve as a demoing tool or word of mouth, which he backs up with statistics of their own sales and user reports.

My point is that they believe it is profitable, not that it actually is. Their greed makes them easier to convince, not more skeptical. They dismiss consumers' complaints as whining rather than lost sales because the Denuvo marketing pitch days less piracy = more sales. The problem is that this is unproven and you are asserting that more greed = more profit, when it's more like more greed = more irrational decisions which scare off customers without actually helping sales. They hate their customers so they view them as stupid sheep and don't think it's possible for their actions to hurt sales. Who is going to accuse their boss of hurting sales, and how would they even go about this?

The whole point of the refund policy is that your purchase isn't "committed" instantly, but instead once you have played 2 hours or 2 weeks have passed since the purchase you complete retard. That's, again, why it's a consumer-first practice.

>Not to mention the company you refund from foots the bill for the backcharge
Go ahead and cite a source for this. As far as I'm concerned, the money that Valve pays to a third-party for a sale every month is simply detracted from their total once the payout happens.
>>
>>388729780
Same thing as Sonic CD. Not sure what you were expecting.
>>
>>388729780
How the fuck does this happen, like seriously
>>
>>388729247
And where along the lines does any of this "abuse" apply to any of Sega's games? They're all pretty lengthy/worthy of multiple playthroughs. I'm just not seeing why Sega decided they'd be the ones to crusade against users demanding consumer rights.
>>
>>388729780
PC games shouldn't have leaderboards.
>>
>I'm not a shill, and don't even own the game.
Then fuck off, I refunded it and yes, I will pirate it because fuck you for making me wait two weeks and then release a gimped piece of shit.

This sounds like a poor excuse. If the DRM doesn't affect the playability of the game then there isn't really an issue.

You just want to pirate the game. I pirate shit before I buy too but I don't sperg out when a game has DRM. I just wait until its cracked. But here all you faggots are, crying and whining like fags.

I'm sorry you have retardation. I already explained how it works. Read it again. I'll give you a hint: it involves the whole thing of a purchase not being considered final until the chance to refund is gone.

Ok, good for you pal. I'm happy for you. You're paranoid for thinking I'm a SEGA employee.

It seems I've touched a nerve. I'm right aren't I? You wanted to pirate it all along. I somehow doubt you actually bought the game. You could post your purchase history if you wanted to BTFO me though.
>>
Why does a game less than 1GB need to have shitty DRM? Does Sega not understand that anti-piracy measurements like this only serve to inconvenience the buyer? This is fucking gay. I'm not about to drop 300 bones on a Switch to play Sonic Mania on the go, and the fact that's there's no 3DS, Vita, or Android/IOS port is beyond retarded.
>>

>>
>>388719229
I've refunded multiple games that have been well past the 2 hour playtime and buy time mark.

I refunded The Long Dark and Brink recently. All you have to do is explain the situation for why you want it refunded and if it's reasonable they'll accommodate you. Most of steam is shit but their service is still top-notch.

Fuck sega for wanting to protect their product huh? PirateHUEs are literal niggers.
>>
>>388731037
Preorders are the exception idiot. Valve points it out to you. When the game is already out, then it wont do it.
>>
>>388731103
Being on steam was already supposed to be a piracy deterrent. It's DRM already, and understandably people don't want even more clutter.
>>
>>388730967
I practically stated what you are stating here >>388730460

You guys are still crying and whining about shit that isn't that big of a deal. You want refunds just because there is DRM, not because you can't play offline. They fixed the offline playability.

So really there isn't any excuse. This board just loves to whine and complain.
>>
Oy. Is the DRM shit going be implemented in consoles via an update? I don't remember where, but I heard that Sega would carry over any of the bug 'fixes' over to console sometime after the release of Mania.

Fuck it, right? How 'bout we all suffer? Hope you paid for that PSN and Xbox Gold this month.

That doesn't make any logical sense from a business standpoint. If you were in their shoes you wouldn't really be saying this.

Of course you think its sensible. As long as I can play the game offline I don't give a damn. You people are complaining about "clutter" when in reality you just don't want to buy the game.

I don't even know why you're trying to hide it. I certainly haven't hidden my propensity to pirate in my discussions with you all in this thread, but for some reason I'm the only one here that seems to get SEGA.

>>388732282
I agree that publishers are tards bro I'm no corporate cocksucker but I'm just being honest that if I was a suit, I'd want piracy protection even if it eventually is cracked anyway. It makes sense.

>you make assumptions that anti-DRM are pirates
My main issue with DRM, is that I'm worried about a slippery slope where it just gets worse. As long as its kept in check and we can still play offline, I feel like consumers and publishers can compromise.

The only reason DRM exists is because of people sharing the game. If we didn't share games, DRM wouldn't exist.
