The first one is an excellent action platformer with excellent music, writing.

The second was rushed and fucked with from a budgetary standpoint by EA all through development. Remember EA? The literal worst company in gaming. Alice 2 is just another of their many casualties. Also they own the rights and are sitting on them refusing to do anything with the property or McGee.

They really aren't, both games are a lot of fun even just so for the atmosphere. Only problem is Madness Returns was conceived with a bunch of weapons, abilities, story moments and bosses that never came through because EA cut the development short, resulting in a game that's big but at the same time lacking and thus repetitive. Because of this the first game is much more accessible and i get back to it every few years

Well, I liked it.
One thing the second games has better than the first one is the weapon system upgrade. In the first one, after you get your 10th weapon, all of the other nine weapons become useless, while in the 2nd game, the knife is still good unit the end of the game.
