It's because there was no template for how a 3D game should play when they made that game. The rough edges and hodge-podge of game elements makes it unique and interesting to explore.

Idk haven't played it. Got it with a dreamcast off eBay. How much is it worth? I'm probably going to sell it

Same. Sky Deck and that snake from Lost World has some funky collisions, but that's it.

They had very loose controls that let you feel free.

Yeah, this is a big part of it. SA1 was just so weird in so many ways, but it all worked out.
