you gotta keep in mind that these games are using an old ass engine. especially since they are also made for ps3.

yakuza 6 and kiwami 2 are the only games so far that uses the newer engine.

Never said it was an issue, I just didn't expect it. The actual content is still great just as it was in Zero but given it came out a year or so after Zero in Japan I figured there'd be more minor changes and tweaks. I like the visuals, they're clean and simple and the PS4 can run them at 60fps.

Didn't mean to sound like I was disappointed or anything, just an observation. Game was a steal at less than $30 on Amazon for the steelbook edition.

I didn't have a weapon on me when Majima showed up as a cop, how do you make that encounter happen again?

I have him up to rank S and im almost maxed out on levelling (only dragon style left) and its so fucking tedious fighting him.

I think he has 5 health bars and regenerates at least 2 times a fight.

I don't think I have the patience to get him up to SSS.

The only thing making it close to bearable is carrying weapons and using heat actions with them in climax heat. Does a lot of damage with the right abilities levelled.

I'm on the English version so the way it works is you invest a certain item and it unlocks that option in Kamiyama's menu. The level of his shop determines if you can actually buy the item in the first place, but he needs specific items invested in order to actually buy them. Nearly all the stuff you donate is gotten from completions or substories. Kamitachi cutter is from Ebisuya and certain M Marts or Poppos, Squid and Marlin are obviously from sea fishing, but the rest is from stuff like Saejima completing either his training or his side quests (Substory for him gives Champion Ring), anything that sells for ￥40 that looks even remotely like an item from the previous game is most likely used for investing and nothing more.

Certain items also require you to invest their ￥200,000 counterpart, and others require you to buy certain items in order to upgrade to the next item (Chinese Broadsword --> The next version --> The next version --> Invest --> The final version can be bought being an example). If you played the others in English and know what they look like you should know what to invest no problem.

It's really not that bad, what's really annoying is waiting for the last bits of food to unlock due to Tatsuya. Also, for Kamurocho just buy like 5 full inventories' worth of Drinker of Ryukyu and that'll take care of that. For Saejima you can buy them in Don Quijote which I passed up for like 10 hours and was unbelievably pissed. If you're already at endgame just switch to Saejima and stand in a crowd of 5+ guys and just hold R2 until you're in red bar and find a fire hydrant sign to kill everyone in one swing.

Golf is terrifying and I'm scared of Pro and Advanced.

Yeah, the Osaka Castle bit is really really silly, but 5's ending ruins the entire game. Everything Haruka chooses to do at that point spits on the graves of people who died for her and spits on Kiryu and Akiyama's sacrifices and even Saejima and Shinada's who barely even know her on top of giving us an Epilogue that tries to make us feel happy when it just makes you even more pissed off. 4's entire Kiryu chapter is just insane and hilarious twist after insane and hilarious twist that's like 20 Osaka Castles put into one game.

This game is the only Yakuza game I'd say it's a waste of time to play on Hard. Enemies don't hit harder, or dodge/block more. They just take less damage and are nothing but easily telegraphed damage sponges. Majima especially, as you already knew his fighting styles from Zero.

There is literally no excuse for not owning the steelbook of Yakuza Kiwami. It was $40 and the normal copy was the same price

The former is set at night, Kiryu has an entirely different outfit, it's an older build so I believe the gameplay is a bit different, you're in a smaller portion of Kamurocho I believe, and if I remember right it has a bit of a story whereas the latter is literally the first chapter of the game.

I never bothered to 100% any of these games because
1- played twice Y2 in a row, completed most of that except 2 missables missions
2- started Y3 right afterwards and playing golf just made me say "fuck no. no 100%". finished the game, did that extra mode with a bunch of bosses
3- started Y4 right afterwards. What a mistake, it was too much Yakuza in a short time, at least for completion never bothered in this one. But i realized the hostesses missions were not my thing, much worse than helping that bar in Y2

Hostess games get better the further into the series you go barring Akiyama's actual management. They're just boring and take forever in 1 through 3 and they throw so many girls at you it's ridiculous (Kenzan had like 8 or 9 girls if I remember right and I know 1 or 2 had 11) but once you get to 4, Dead Souls (Though doing their substories is annoying) and 5 the hostesses are great and 5 especially fixed the whole conversational thing. Shame they added the Gacha drinks though, 20 of them and I still don't have that platinum membership thing from it.

Akiyama's Hostess Manager is basically them experimenting and it wasn't good at all since you had no clue what gave a bonus to what and Akiyama moved so incredibly slow and you had to run in a circle every single time.

It gets to be a bit much sometimes, Kenzan is the perfect example of them being out of their minds with all the things you had to do that were missable outside of the minigames. The minigames are on a whole other level of annoying, as soon as I started trying the Kakashi challenges I knew I just didn't even want to bother and then Koi-koi and frog racing sealed the deal. I still have a save where I only have the minigames left but man that's like a good 40 hours or more.

None of the other games in the series are nearly as identical as Kiwami it to 0. All of the other games change a lot. Kiwami is 0 but less. 4 was 3 but much more, same with 5, and 2 to 1.

I've only played like 25% of yakuza 1 before dropping it but goddamn already it feels like a lot of stuff was changed. I like how they just throw that ring sub story like mission at you.
