He may have also been referring as well to 9/11 which occured days after release of the game.

Nobody in the civilized world gives a damn to the US. Here in Brazil we don't give two shits to you, we rather focus our attention in our god tier football and carnival.

I hate to break it to you, but the vast majority of terrible shit that's happened in the past decade and a half stems from a domino effect of 9/11.

>North American release date: September 10, 2001

This game got delayed for 3 years in Japan, despite being Japanese, because of 9/11.
>>
Yeah, 9/11 was more or less the second video game crash, 2007 being the transitional period from that time.
>>
>>388677627
As the world's dominant economic and military power, what happens in the US has global ramifications. And 9/11 was a hell of a happening. It's not arrogance or anything, it's just a fact.

The only reason why natural disasters seem so bad here is because we have things that are actually worth destroying. What does Brazil have other than gay ass soccer and inbred baboon women with baboon butts?

9/11 was the end of the A E S T H E T I C era and video games started to decline shortly thereafter. I distinctly remember around thinking around 2003 or so that video games were getting worse.

I played this, and I bring it up every time a 'legitimately bad games' thread gets posted. 9/11 had nothing to do with this game being a shit heap.
>>
>>388679186
Sounds about right. A lot of PC genres, WRPGs in particular, were in the worst slump ever at that point.

It was when people stopped being optimistic. Compare Hitman 2 to Blood Money. The first has a lot of color and very Mission Impossible -esque locations, the latter (especially on PC) has a much more contrasted palette (including loads of bloom) and locations are pretty generic without too much xtreme variety. Both games are still fun though, but it demonstrates how things changed.

The same can be said of Simcity 3000 Unlimited (which even has the original WTC in it) and SC4D. Even just the menus; sc3000u's main menu is a dreamlike view of maps and blueprints while sc4d doesn't have a menu, you're just dropped right into the region view.

What do rockets have to do with anything that mightve occurred in that month of that year?
>>
>>388677627
seriously. I don't give a flying fuck about 9/11. unless you were in NYC neither should you. all it did was make people care about eachother a little more for a month or two afterwards. then they went back to being shit.

No actually, it had massive ramifications for the geopolitical climate that we, as in everyone, are still feeling to this day.

During 9/11 all flights through America stopped, I remember because my trip to Hawaii got totally cancelled as a result. Airports were overflowing with stranded fliers. In the following months, flying became a huge chore as the TSA hasn't been formally created yet so everyone got a pat down search. It was huge bummer.

>all it did was make people care about eachother a little more for a month or two afterwards.

The patriotism continued for at least five years until the housing market began to explode.

Military bases around the world, highest GDP, dollar was accepted everywhere. What he said is true.
>>
I thought you had to hit a certain amount of sales to get greatest hits?
>>
>>388683123
I think after a certain point, Greatest Hits meant "cheaper reprint" with a black and white instruction manual (back before that was a popular thing to do)
>>
>>388681478
I mean you can argue we're on the downhill, but you can't argue that the US was #1 in 2001 and I don't think you can really argue with it now either. China won't be the world's biggest economy for at least another 10 years (assuming they don't crash) and there's no country that could beat us in a one-on-one war, not even Russia or China.
>>
>>388677970
I know you're just trolling but its funny that some would actually think this while consuming American entertainment, using American inventions and posting on an American website.
