First time playing this game.
Is it easier than the first?
I remember thinking it was harder. Not drastically harder, but harder.

Yeah.
Starts off easier, becomes a little more complex with the introduction of some new mechanics. It never becomes a ball-buster or anything, though.

A little bit easier if the first still fresh in your memory.
Not really, but it introduces some new thinking in some later puzzles.
The co-op ones are bullshit hard, especially trying to work with someone on the same mindset.
There's new puzzles in it but it's very linear to the point it makes the solution obvious sometimes.
Harder in some ways. Mostly because the levels are a lot larger and the game can sometimes turn into a hunt for the singular portal-able surface on the level. In the first game, it was almost always clear where you were supposed to be going.
There's also a few more gameplay elements, but you'll pick them up fast.

I replayed it yesterday and finished it in 5 hours, should I bother with the co-op?

Fuck yes it's the highlight of the entire game if you ask me. Played like 500 custom coop maps with my bro, it's a blast. Well designed puzzles utilizing 4 portals instead of 2 are sooo much more satisfying.

Single player is the tutorial, co-op is the real Portal 2.

Sounds good, last time I played it, it was a pirated version so I didnt bother back then.

I agree with this

We used to play on a pirated version too but then sucked it up and paid what, 2 fucking bucks or something each for a grey market key, only to be able to access the steam workshop for new maps instead of manually importing them - best money I've ever spent on a video game.

Half Life games aren't hard, so it doesn't really matter. It will still be pitifully easy.
I played it on release and didn't bother ever since ,I got it on a sale and it's been been sitting there untill yesterday. Will play some co-op tomorrow.
