I recently came across this quote, which shows the difference of why people play games nowadays.
> "Why should I keep playing if I'm not getting anything for it?" Just playing for fun has become a foreign concept now.
No one plays the top games for fun much anymore. It's almost either getting into a skinner box scheme or doing it cause social pressure, which is likely caused by the former.

It seems like every popular multiplayer game people think im in the wrong place because i want to have fun.
>No one plays the top games for fun much anymore
I do.
After playing a shitton of multiplayer several years ago I'm finding singleplayer games, especially emulation and things from one or two gen ago are getting much more of my vidya attention. I just played through Ghost Trick this weekend and had a great time.

You're an outlier unfortunately. And even then, I guarantee you choose to play some games cause they give you a sense of reward status.

isnt that the same thing ?
Im having fun while getting lootboxes in PUBG, which I sell to idiots
it's actually the exact opposite, people exclusively play "for fun" because they're all normals with jobs and just want to "unwind" (not think at all). video games have become a facade of their former selves, all of them dedicated to letting the player shut off their brain and just look at the pretty colors on the screen

After playing the same game for multiple hours, you're going to start wanting some way to distinguish yourself, especially in a multiplayer game. Microtransactions are made specifically to lure players into buying them for a very small but important reason.
One of my internet-friends quit vidya all together because of this, said videogames were just as pointless as smoking cigarettes.
Shame though, really enjoyed playing with him.

shit's suck. games have always been candy, but now theyve become cigarettes.

you probably think video games are art do you?
