What's so bad about Denuvo?

You have to be always online for a single player game
>>
Fuck whitehead.

At some point you have to hold people responsible. You don't get to slink behind the corporate facade. This is a fucking travesty. Was going to buy it, will now pirate it.

Do you not have internet or something? I think you have bigger issues other than whether you can play a fucking video game.
>>
>>388649617
So do you turn off your Internet connection when not playing anything or actually doing anything?

I've never understood the always online gripe.

You have to be online when you first launch it (so after its downloaded) and then it rechecks every 3 months or so.

You can play it offline. You wont even notice the game has drm.

there's nothing wrong with denuvo if you're buying the game, pirate fags just hate it cause it means they have to wait a couple weeks to pirate so they false flag as buyers to complain

Sonic Mania didn't, SEGA did.

FANTASTIC WORK SEGA!

Steam is very much a DRM. That's even why devs put it there in the first place.

The Reviews on this are absolutely hysterical. Denuvo itself isn't bad, but the fact that we were outright lied to when they said the delay was not for the sake of DRM, on top of the game not informing us of Denuvo is what kills the deal.

Like you, we've noticed an error in the Steam store not mentioning the DRM for Sonic Mania.

We're fixing that now.

Sonic Mania is intended to be played offline and we're investigating reports on that.

We're also investigating other issues like controller support, these are all PC specific things that Christian and the team have been working on these last few weeks

Please bare with us while we collate and investigate problems that are being brought to our attention

The Sonic fan/modding PC community kept Classic Sonic alive, and made Mania commercially viable for Sega. Getting always online DRM is a huge slap in the face to the people who have kept this series going all of these years.

Is this some kind of damage control? Controller support? There's x-input and direct input. And you use the vendor and device IDs to map buttons. Wow. You're done. Sonic CD already got a PC release and I've never heard of it having controller support issues. There's literally no reason why this wouldn't have been done in half an hour early in the games development.

Are you fucking retarded? You don't need the internet to play steam games. I literally share my steam profile nigger, I play at the same time as my brother constantly. Hell if you ignore the annoying popup saying "Hey someone else is signed in playing this game" and just leave it in the corner of the screen you can as far as I can tell play multiplayer games at the same time.

Steam has problems but don't pretend Steam games require online to work. I've played steam games in deadzones and have online disabled as my default setting since I'm a singleplayer only autist.

No-one is saying the game itself is shit mate, it's the principle of the DRM that turns customers off.

Most of us have stable internet connections, sure, but it's a fact that it goes against preservation of games. Imagine not being able to play single-player games by companies that shut down - are we only allowed to enjoy media as long as the distributor is in business? Or what if Denuvo shuts down in the future, and no-one can actually play older games any more?
>>
>>388649323
What's so bad about Denuvo? Is it just that you can't play online or mod the game?

With "normal" Denuvo you can play offline but have to log in every 30(?) days. Apparently this has some additional stuff that doesn't let you play offline at all. The problem in my opinion is the fact that if denuvo ever gets shut down none of these game will be playable unless cracked or patched by the developer (Similar to gamespy)

Thanks for the condolences anons. Reading up, it's sounding more like the devs simply botched Dinput/Xinput support rather than Denuvo being the exclusive factor for why I can't play with my Dinput controllers (although I'm sure it doesn't help). Regardless, I really hope that Denuvo is removed sooner rather than later.

Also, does the game even have proper 4:3 aspect ratio? The game normally letterboxes the game in 4:3, and forcing fullscreen 4:3 via fsWidth 424 fsHeight 240 causes pic related. I want to play this game on my CRT for those sweet scanlines, and even Sonic 4 gave us a 4:3 option.

something like a week or a month after launch, right in the midst of EA/Maxis spouting shit about how it was designed from the ground up to be always online
and then, like the last poster said, they eventually patched the game to work offline
you were barred from using the fastest game speed for months and months after launch because the servers were fucky and couldn't handle it, so they disabled it.

https://twitter.com/JackOreoTV/status/902473250172755969

That being said, I'm playing the game at 424x240 on my CRT, and outside the slightly distorted aspect ratio, the pixels are stil razor sharp. That might honestly be the only way to properly play though (that or using the controls on your CRT to force a 16:9 letterboxed mode like mine does), which would be slightly disappointing if true.

It's not really unconfirmed but more unproven.
