Flipendo or not, it was still part of a series of games based on the dullest franchise in the history of game franchises. Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>a-at least the books were good though
"No!"
The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

That's because of art direction, the levels are really detailed and crafted with actual care. They have a lot of thought put in there

Get a noCD patch or get it off TPB.
Uou want to limit the framerate to max 120 as FPS spikes will cause the game speeds up like crazy making the game borderline unplayable.
See video for instructions for windowed mode/FPS limiting.

This is the game where they replaced castle roaming and exploration with a mission select menu, and where they started copying how everything looked in the movie rather than using the distinctive HP artstyle

Well, I ENJOYED it, this and the next one. It was nice to finally walk through hogwarts again, discovering secrets and all, especially after the aberration that was Harry Potter 4.

I recognize it wasn't that great of a game, though. The spellcasting is weird indeed, and most of the game is spent collecting the Army members.

Rowling is reasonable story teller, but a terrible author. Unfortunately, her poor writing skills were not mitigated by her editorial team; even in the last books there were an abundance of grammatical errors and poorly formed sentences.

What results are clumsy books, containing a small number of magical and well imagined events and settings, punctuated with large passages of dull, technically poor, prose.

I would levy most of the same complaints at George R R Martin, however he at least succeeds in building an interwoven narrative structure, containing sufficient detail to develop and justify plot events. Although, that said, his prose is so sloppy it's hard to believe, full of solecisms, misspellings, and malformed sentences.
>>
>>388658674
You can explore freely in Philosopher's Stone for GC as well, though I believe it was kind of downgraded in that game. The castle barely has any NPCs and the music stops playing whenever you leave the main plot's path, which I don't remember from CoS

Anon, ASOFAI is poorly written. The authorship is bad, and the editors were away in the fields. There's a big difference between his story telling, and ability to develop a complex tale, and his abilities as a writer.

In particular, he has a bad habit of mixing up his subjects, and consequently writing paragraphs of unspecified nonsense. Again, something a good editorial team should catch.

That's why I think it's so cozy. Mostly because where my grandparents lived was very rainy and usually cool, even in the summer. So I always remember being in this huge room with the rain out the window with a bunch of other kids playing this game on the library computer. The inside of hogwarts was always lit with torches giving it a nice cozy orange tint, while the outside sort of mimicked the library we were at on a rainy day. A giant old stone building covered in moss.

I agree.

It's a very simple book that's borderline pointless from an intellectual perspective. It doesn't even have much entertainment factor.

I'm relatively positive that people just go into reading it with an extremely positive attitude for various factors without thinking too hard. Actual literary historians will have a positive attitude because they can relate the book in context to the great books tradition in America and enjoy the fact that, for it's time, it was a very experimental work.

Meanwhile dumbass peasants "like" it because it's easy to understand, is not challenging, and being able to understand something literary historians appreciate makes them feel smart, even though their understanding is incomplete as fuck.

i think thats a good argument for why open-world games can be good; instead of "circumnavigate the field of play to find secrets" you can hide shit in places that you might not look because there are so many other options in where you can go. unfortunately most games dont utilize this(the only example i can really think of is that one skyrim overhaul set in a unique universe, though i dropped tht pretty quick becuase of shitty skyrim combat) and some make a retardedly huge laundry list of collectables
