This is especially annoying for Knuckles during moments that you have to climb. What's funny is that the super theme is the best it's ever been, but the problem is still there.

I wouldn't call the gameplay good, but it had potential. Most of the problems come from the level and mission design. The "find/destroy/kill everything" missions needed some more leeway instead of requiring perfection, and the level design makes you wait around too much when it should've encouraged fluidity. The guns make it easy to kill things fast but you never really get much opportunity to go fast.

S3&K has 14 stages in all and that's because Hidden Palace and Doomsday are stages on their own.
It's also worth noting that Hidden Palace was incorporated into Lava Reef instead of having one short stage.
All in all S3K had 14 stages to Mania's 13 but there's more to that given that Knuckles' Mirage Saloon act 1 was a completely different stage to Sonic and Tails one.
And they're full stages too, I remember one or two of Knuckles' stages in 3K were painfully short too.
