It's not just about dating. It's about life. If you want to play it as a dating sim, you can, and fyi you actually do get to sex all of the girls except Futaba I believe. But also the main part of the game is infiltrating the palaces. The "life simulator" part of the game is meant to be downtime in between palaces, where you can rank up confidants who give you advantages when you're inside a palace. For example, spending time listening to a certain politician gives you the ability to better negotiate with enemies inside palaces, and spending time with the doctor gives you access to more and better medicine to use inside the palaces.

Basically he was testing a level and ended up doing all of the wrong paths and side-routes before finishing the level. When he finished, some of the quality assurance people asked him what he was doing, and he said he was exploring and looking for secrets. They seemed uncertain about his answer, and one of his colleagues, another tester, basically busted his balls to them saying that he was lost. It baffles me how you didn't mention the level design which is some of the best work I have seen in a while. Overall I wouldn't the game is an average hidden gem game, the things it's good at its very good at but very shallow in other regards/gameplay mechanics (the crafting is busted and unbalanced as fuck to the point where it broke the game for me).

Doesn't help its case it killed another good looking name and did nothing with the name, a big factor I think in why it didn't sell/get talked about as much.

Personal GOTY is Persona 5.
"Objective" GOTY is BotW I believe.
It finally break the curse of Open World and was just a blast to play from start to finish.

Did it really? It's is a great Open World game but at the end of the day it is still confined and flawed by the genre itself. I agree with you that it didnt bring anything to the table that revamped the approach to Open World games but as you said it basically achieved what all the other Open World games tried to do.
To be constantly engaging and make you feel like your traversing a world full with surprises and own life.
I'd say the only distinct change BotW has in terms of Open World design that other games neglect are the many different biotopes such as lava, water, beaches, desert, jungle and snow being in close proximity.
It makes for a constant freshness in scenery and change in inhabitants.
My only gripe with the Open world formula by BotW is that the enemies dont vary between the different biotopes.

I'm just sayin, I've played a lot of games and this feels fresh.

I've played titalfall 2, and it's mostly wall running and some sliding and jumping (simplified). The wraith class alone in LB is that on steroids + more. Quake Champ felt too old for me. In LB i can play with a similar tempo and pace but the weapons feel so much better. And I can still rocket jump to reach crazy speeds.

Also LB has game modes that can be engaging and clutch as fuck. Sliding in at 88mph through 4 madmen, stealing the batter, then dodging fire accross the map before you score and win the game is adrenaline pumping shit to the highest degree. I have spare t-shirts for all the sweat.

Yakuza 0, Persona 5, and BotW are my top for this year.

I should also mention the verticality in the game. The maps may seem flat but I haven't looked this much up and down in combat since Tribes. It adds difficulty and depth, which I love.

Its a shame.
Its been such a busy year I think Capcom should of released it in October.
Its a truly fantastic game more people need to play.
It made me love RE again after years of thinking it was dead and buried.

Breath of the Wild sparked my interest in video games again.
It's one of the finest experiences I've had this decade.

God I can't wait for the game awards season where Zelda takes 90% of the awards and /v/ is so fucking confused about how a game they've never played could get the spot

I wasn't in the camp that was REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEing and did enjoy the game, felt it was a thematic return to classic RE, but I wouldn't call it great.

Boss fights were bad and the second half (ship and after) is a mess. Wasn't there supposed to free big story DLC coming in springtime? Something Hero?
