More of the same is a good thing, in this case. The core gameplay of Destiny is rock solid. It controls well and has tight gunplay.

The stuff that people want changed were the lack of meaningful story content, and less grinding at max level. They appear to be making way better story content integrated into the game. But I can't say if there will be less grinding or not.

I'd say give destiny 1 a shot, if you can find the taken king collection (or whatever the version of the game that has all the dlc in it) for cheap. There's a ton of content there, and it'll give you a good barometer if you'll enjoy destiny 2.

If you liked Halo Reach gameplay then Destiny 2 is basically an upgraded version of that. The game runs well on a pretty meh computer ($1k laptop from 2014)

Yes that sucked cause the skyboxes were fucking amazing and it didn't help that the areas were pretty much set in a loop with the occasional area that was a deadend.

Thankfully looking at the map for the EDZ in Destiny 2 its a proper play area, you don't run around a track to get to locations, its just one big map you can go around.

Not only that, but they removed the grimoire from the companion app so you can't even read all the cards you acquired and see the stats from all the things you did.
When they wiped the slate clean, they absolutely did; saying 'Fuck you' to all the lorefags who actually cared.

They restricted loot drops to only occur at the end of strikes and pvp only. And even then it was just a few extra guns that you didn't have to begin with. All gear now have set perks that never change so grinding for the perfect "god roll" is a thing of the past.

you meet up with people in designated social spaces and form groups to take on various forms of instanced PvE content. all it really lacks is the seamless integration of and transition between the social areas and the PvE content. probably due to console limitations, so you're kind of right.
