Mywifejust bought a PS4. Never owned a console so I missed out on all the great PS-only games like Dark Souls and Metal Gear Solid. Looks like PS4s aren't backwards compatible, which is bullshit, so are there any essential remakes/re-releases of great Sony exclusives I should pick up? Or even current great PS4 games that aren't complete casual trash?

Felt the same way til after working on myself for a long time, I lucked out to meet someone great. It can happen for you too anon.

Why not remakes?
Stay clear of Horizon, Its gameplay is garbage. You're gonna want Bloodborne, Yakuza, Persona, and maybe pick up the Uncharted games if you're in the mood for a "cinematic" game, since they actually have the gameplay to back it up. Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, and I think MGS is on the playstation store and those are GOAT.

So was I mate. There's hope for (almost) everyone if you're willing to put in the work. Good luck.

For the re-releases i can recommend The Last of Us and God of war 3.
Should be rather cheap by now.

You can get the whole 20+ years line up of PlayStations together for less than what a high-end PC GPU costs.
Which is how I entered console gaming in 2013-2016.
Physical games are harder to come by however.
