it will be between the tyranids and necromorphs in the end
ergo necromorphs are basically low key OP (or at least the Markers and the Brethren moons)
if it has DNA it can be necromorphed
if it has neurological activity it can be driven insane to kill its kind and itself
basically even the most physically capable and remorseless killers of a species like the Xenomorphs don't stand a chance because none of them actually have the tech to destroy even a single marker to the atomic level it needs to be destroyed to be rendered ineffective
plus the Moons are indeed the most intimidating god like concept of everything you just described

that is why I said it would be between the nids and the necromorphs
Markers turn nids into necros
nids reproduce and consume their necromorphed kind fast enough to even thing out
it is a stalemate unless enough nids get necromorphed to trigger convergence without the need to infest the entire species
if the Moons directly get invested then even the nids are fucked

>>388603819
Xenomorphs are pretty fuckin' dead. They reproduce really slow and die to assault rifles really quickly.
The Thing works too slow, probably can't invade dead bodies. Good survivability though.
Necromorphs versus Flood would be fun, they're pretty equal. My bet is on Flood because their method of infestation is very fast and they can infest dead and non-living matter. Graveminds seem easier to make than Brethern.
Dunno about the Tyranid method of infection, but they seem to have the best firepower.

basically eternal moon sized life(?)forms that seem ageless and eternal
they have for a billion years sown the seeds of sentient life and when that life becomes advanced enough to replicate markers and multiply out of control they consume entire solar systems worth of colonies and planets
and indication of the absolute Lovecraftian horror levels they reach is that they have been doing this cycle for at least a billion years to all sorts of advanced alien life with untold technology across the galaxy and never once have they been beaten

>>
>>388605463
not exactly
it is kinda implied that it turns evolution towards species with the affinity for it to become sentient
this means that intelligent life as it is know would not exist without the Markers
they are basically the architects of intelligent evolution and ultimately its end
it does not push the fast forward button
it IS the reason it happens
>>

a bit of all
it drives less intelligent people outright insane leading to the acts of violence you know
it is more successful with intelligent people in the way that their brains actually can process the signal as a blueprint and they are capable of replicating the marker
but ultimately none can withstand it as intelligent people cannot take the burden of information for long and are driven insane in their own right
a very VERY small minority of people seem to be immune to the signal but why that happens is entirely unknown

Markers are tough but can be destroyed through perfectly natural means (I think someone mentioned atomic bombs earlier). Bretheren moons are killed through blunt force trauma.

The Forerunner were in a losing war against the Flood for thousands of years while using direct energy and antimatter weaponry. They only way they "won" is they killed everything else in the galaxy first and starved the Flood out.

Tyranids are in the 40k universe. I don't want to think of what kind of shit they can withstand.
>>
So I got Dead Space last year when it was on sale on Live...

It's… alright, I guess. The "aim for the limbs instead of the head" thing was a nice spin on things, the lack of HUD and having everything take place in-game and real-time was great, and things did get intense when you don't see them coming (although there is many points where it's obvious they're gonna show up), but I think it's honestly just average. Plus it was over quick and the Final Boss is far too easy for what it's supposed to be.

I don't have a problem with linearity by itself, but in Dead Space it felt incredibly rail-roaded, what with the tram separating areas and many times doors locking and not allowing you to return. It would have been nice if you could freely explore the ship (Or revisit previous areas) instead of going to areas and not being allowed to go back once that part of the story is done.

I knew about the Nicole twist before I got the game since I read up on Dead Space a few years back, but if it was meant to be a twist they sure weren't hiding it well. They tell you less than half-way into the game that the marker causes hallucinations and Kendra saying she saw her brother which was impossible, and that part where you meet her in the mining section and she was somehow alive with no gun, not to mention she was pretty unfazed by the whole necromorph thing. The "Kenda being a mole" twist was better since they were setting up Hammond as a red herring.

So is the second game any better? I know the third one is an awful Gears of War rip-off, but how's the second one fare?

Fuck the asteroid shooting segment.

Best in the series, if you ask me.
I can talk about its flaws but it IS a bit more action oriented than 1, but, the ways it improves shooting are outstanding.

If you liked 1, you'll like 2 more.

>>388608842
Well like I said 2 was more "shooty" than 1 and 1 had better horror elements. I love dead space 2 to death but one of the flaws was that 2's horror elements were pretty poor. Also, zero atmosphere areas in 2 were all, in addition to being zero atmosphere, zero g. Which sounds like a minor complaint until you realize that in dead space 1 and 2, to my knowledge, you will only encounter a single type of enemy in zero gravity areas, which means you know exactly what to expect and how to fight them. In the first game, I distinctively remember portions where enemies would and could sneak up on you by taking advantage of the fact that you can't hear them in a vacuum.

This is somewhat improved in 2's AI improvement where, if an enemy is behind you, its AI changes. An enemy in front of you in 2 will roar, scream, and growl at you and charge you quickly. However, its behavior is radically different if it's sneaking behind you, and will make no sound and sneak deathly silent until it attacks.
