The difficulty modes are really weird though.
Easy: The game literally plays itself. Literally.

My problem wasn't the combat mechanics themselves. It was simple compared to Platinum's other games to be sure, but still quite tight and competent. The RPG mechanics however aren't well integrated and the jump from Normal to Hard is ridiculous. Either you die in 2 hits or the game is so easy you can play your sleep.

Not to mention the 9S arcs where you have half a move set. They could've designed a more interesting way that's incoporated into your base combos.

It really boggles my mind that no one else on /v/ seems to have a problem with this. The game is fundamentally broken.

Yeah seems pretty rare for people to play it on hard. And on easy they could as well just have removed all of the combat from the time. Just give you a "win the fight" button.

You're right, you play the first half of the game twice while doing the sidequests, then the second half of the game you have to do once with the sidequests, then you chapter select the final boss to unlock the other ending and then just beat the interactive epilogue while the credits roll.

Humanity died, and the androids who were supposed to protect them and failed, are losing hope because they failed in their mission to protect humanity. In order to stop androids from simply just stopping and committing suicide or giving up, some assholes decide to make a plan to fake there being humans on the moon via the YorHa project: build a new type of android using machine cores and a bunch of space stations, install a big radio tower on the moon, tell only the commander of the space stations about the fake moon landing, then once everyone on the surface believes that there are humans on the moon, blow up the bunkers by letting the machines infect them with a virus in the back door to hide all the evidence. 9S survives this by sheer dumb luck, and the network machine intelligence taunt the fuck out of him for being a fucking loser. Then everyone apart from the androids and machines die. Apparently this is supposed to make the androids feel better and keep them killing machines, the important thing to do.

Instead, N2 took the backdoor as an opportunity to spy on androids and steal info about human culture, that's why you see so much of it in Tower's library.

You can see the same amount of prejudice towards the machines from in-game 9S too, and he only understands that he was truly wrong in ending D.

Fair enough about that last bit. But you can save whenever you drop by a transfer station, and you can pick up your corpse and shake it to get your old memories back (you get your XP back which is your battle data and memories).

Considering some androids live for literal aeons, they've probably forgotten more things than the memory loss from a bad fight here and there.

Both are sad, but it's not like "OH WOE IS ME I AM UNDONE" it's more "fuck, I was just grinding that shit and now all my progress is gone".
